Naruto was so full of lessons.... more life lessons I could never learn if I just heard them from someone.
Iruka taught me... not to judge people by their reputations but by their personalities.
Haku taught me... that there is no good or evil when you're protecting the ones you love.
Neji taught me... that if you leave your pride behind you can change your destiny.
Rock Lee taught me... that hard work beats talent.
Kakashi taught me... that teamwork and friendship stand above the rules.
Hinata taught me... that love is worth fighting for.
Sai taught me... that a life without feeling isn't worthwhile.
Sakura taught me... that weakness is a choice, not an excuse.
Gaara taught me... how painful loneliness can be and how love can change someone.
Nagato taught me... that revenge and hatred only lead to more revenge and hatred.
Asuma taught me... how important it is to take care of the next generation.
Shikamaru taught me... that sometimes you even have to do the things that bother you the most.
Might Gai taught me... that it doesn't matter what other people say about you.
Minato and kushina taught me... that parent's love beat all else.
Sarutobi taught me... that problems should be solved with kindness rather than with violence.
Sasuke taught me... that you should not only dream about things but actually achieve them.
Itachi taught me that... sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good.
Tsunade taught me... to never abandon the living for the dead.
Jiraya taught me... that you must never give up your faith in humanity and your hope of peace.
Obito taught me... that it is never too late to revert to the right way.
Madara taught me... that peace is no peace without freedom. And
Naruto... well, we all know that Naruto taught us a lot. but the most important thing is: no matter what happens in your life... never give up

Too Late, I'm from Belgium and having watched tons of movies from all states in the country, I can definitely vouch Malayalam Films are the best and the most underrated movies in the country. It's the only industry with movies and actors at par with International standards and breaks away from typical Indian stereotype. I learned that Malayalees or mallus grew up watching incredible movies and great actors and definitely hard to please. Even visiting Kerala made me realize how different the people are and everything uniquely set apart from the rest of the country. I'm flabbergastered when I hear other industries praised so much for serving Garbage. I'm so happy people are slowly discovering real talent.

I’m from South America and who was fascinated with Bollywood and made my way down to the other south industries of Tamil, telegu and lastly cane upon Malayalam and I was just floored. There’s something about Malayalam movies where it’s so different from the rest that just makes you smile and admire the simple stories and nothing that’s over the top. If you love Fahadh like me I highly love his other movies like “Iyobinte Pusthakam”

But as the female counterparts of the characters enter their life and bring love to their life, there are more and more lights in and around the house. By the end, when all female characters are with them and the brothers have resolved the conflict among themselves, the house is fully lit and completely bright.

Top 5 life lessons from Kumbalgami Nights:
    1. When you need help ask for it: "both men have psychological issues, but when Saji comes close to the abyss, he realizes he must help himself: he goes to a doctor to cry out his emotions. Meanwhile Shammi insists on being “a hero”.
    2. Crying is not sign of weakness but courage to move on with clarity: Shaji breaks down in Doctors room- Normally Men holds a lot of emotions inside them and do not express it. When Shaji breaks down in tears he lets go of all his guilt he has done in life and that opens up the clarity and courage of taking responsibility of his late colleagues wife and her son. He also starts caring for her like gifting her saree as shown in the song EZHUTHA KADHA.
    3. Love over financial security- Baby accepting Bobby knowing that he is poor. She gives love a chance rather than money. In the last scene while bobby is rescuing baby the look on Shammis wife face when he displays his care and affection for Baby shows what she missed in her marriage with Shammi.
    4. Blood is thicker than water: when the brothers see BOBBYs love gets away from his life due to Shammi they all reunite and stand firmly behind Bobby for his last attempt to win over Shammi.
    5. Happiness and energy in a house is governed by balance of male and female energies: Franky always wants female family members as he feels it makes the family complete. Nylah first enters the house, followed by Vijays wife who Shaji brings in. Things start shifting in everyones life and soon it is followed by Bobby getting Baby in the climax of the movie.

Some important screenplay bits that enhance emotions :
    1) When Bobby , Saji and Frankie are shown for the first time in the movie, all of them are positioned in different heights ( Bobby sits on the couch, Frankie stands and Saji is all over the room) . As their relationship develops, they are seen together on the couch.
    2) When Bony meets Frankie for the first time, they show them swimming synchronized. Here, Frankie's relationship with Bony is emphasised which is a direct contrast to the previous scene with the other Brothers.
    3) When Saji asks Frankie's help to go to a doctor, he is positioned inside a window , showing that he is in some kind of a prison and can't let his emotions out. (Emphasised by dialogue " I am not able to cry")
    4) Saji's Innocence - Right after Saji's friend dies and he ends up in a police station, Saji is shown with an ant crawling on his hand.
This is a reference to a Malayalam phrase " Oru ഉറുമ്പിനെ പോലും നോവിക്കില്ല" which translates roughly to " He is so innocent that he wouldn't even hurt an ant"
    Lastly,
Shammy says, " I am the Hero". Here hero basically means the "Good guy"
Which in this case I believe is. Though he is mentally unstable, all he tried to do was protect his family. He tried to do the role of the Man in the house. Protect his neice from falling into what he thought was a bad relation.
If you read this much , Thank you.
These are some of my thoughts.

I disagree with the last part. I think when shammi says ' i am the hero', what the writer is trying to convey is that a man who thinks he should be the head of the family,(the shot in which they are eating, he is sitting right below the hanging photo of their father) who controls the women around him is not a hero but a freak/psychopath. He consider himself a hero, because he is living in a society that thinks a man is entitled to be the Savior of women, be it in the family or in the society.

Also he says he is the hero in a fight scene.
Which commonly has a hero and a villain.

Guys, kumbalangi is the name of the place in which the story is set. It is a small island near Kochi.I really loved your interpretations, especially the moon walk one..here are some others
    1. The house that they live in is unfinished ,both literally and metaphorically.
    2. There are no women in the house, but when they do enter the house ,it becomes a complete albeit unconventional home , and Frankie gets the loving presence of a 'mother' that he has always longed for.
    3. Kumbalangi nights is the story of broken men. It underlies the emotional trauma they endure and the sad truth that mental health is not given priority in India, especially for men.
    4. Shammi wants to become the perfect "head of the family" and maintain familial values and traditions, to outwardly portray the Perfect family, but internally, this family is subjected to a sinister plot and a controlling Shammi.
The family of Saji on the other hand, with the wife of his dead friend and Bonnie's girlfriend living there, might seem unconventional and socially unacceptable, but is full of love and care, unlike Shammi's so called perfect family.
    💕

The mother was psychologically broken. Saji explains it after the mom says no. He explains how she truly loved them but she had to deal with a lot and that broke her mentally.

I think it's about the perception, many people won't like the subject they're dealing with and the newness in the execution of the film. Malayalis are so reluctant to embrace change. But the editing, camera and the background score is another level. And I will say if it was an English film, Fahad would have been the next Oscar winner. The film and it's way of execution is original, just give it a chance.

I am the greatest fan of this movie. Have watched it multiple times and have been closely following the cast and crew interviews and reviews for the movie. The mother's character was a mystery to me too after watching the movie (watch from 17:35). As per Indian culture, we have always watched and heard of the 'ever-loving mother' who always lived and existed for their children. After reading a review on the movie it all became clear all of a sudden. In this movie the mother had suffered a lot due to the constant conflicts between the brothers. She simply couldn't take it anymore and chose Gods path, where she found peace. When the sons called her back she wasn't ready to go back to that house where she didn't have peace. The 'ever-loving mother' is also human. She is not to be criticized for not going back to the house and not taking care of her sons.
This movie have many hidden gems like this which make us think and discuss. As the director and scriptwriter rightly said, the movie is open for discussions and every individual have their version of explanations. I find the above explanation for the mother's character to be on point for the way she reacted..
