I love my magic cards. When i dont have people to play with, I collect. When i have people to play with, I play. I may not get cards from every set, but its a great hobby. When the day comes where they've sat in my basement for 5-6 years without being touched.. then I'll consider leaving it behind. But it seems like everytime I break open my binders and look through my old cards, i get a rush of nostalgia from the past. I've played in the middle of a hurricane on the Atlantic, and while deployed in the middle east.. i cant say that about any other hobby. The amount of memories i have from playing is crazy, and i wouldnt trade them for anything.
Peter Freundl thanks for serving!
playing on deployment with friends is what made me a true lover of magic, we played it all the time in our down time. Glad to see someone else had this experience.
Know anybody that wants to buy a 40k card collection?
Money is good and all but what do I do about my heart when this channel ends???? :(
Joromo84 life won't be the same
We will have CGI Rudy by then.
Rudy will always be in your heart
This channel does not simply "end"....
Why is the channel ending?
I got really sad when he said 'I won't be making videos in 10 years' :( - Right in the feels Ruby...
Rudy: I wont be around in 10 years making videos
Every subscriber: Bet
*_*betting intensifies*_*
Videos are going to be a dead format. It's Holographic VR Troubled Timmy Stunt Doubles in 2025.
Side note: Rudy, honestly i have been following you for the last few months and i have to say youre doing wonderful keeping up youre physical appearance youve slimmed down a bit it seems and you seem happier/healthier than when the channel started. Keep it up and keep up all the hard work.
In magic there are many exceptional players and personalities, but within the magic community you are my hero. Content, Personality, Social Interaction with the community all A+
Thanks for keeping this channel going, Rudy! Love the insight and humor that goes into these. IDK if you write these out or just freestyle it, but whatever it is keep doing it!
So...your not gonna be making videos in 10 yrs?
Wtf, Rudy?
This can never end bro.
Jason
For real, this is legitimate life advice, right here. Best wishes Rudy, may you hold your course strong.
That's a nice resealing facility you got there.
Thanks for the video Rudy, yep long and medium term do reap more benefits.
Ruby -- Everything you're saying is pretty much a universal truth in any hobby that has a collection aspect. Everything you're saying has a strong echo in a hobby you probably never would have imagined... Reef keeping. The cycles are the same, the motives are *slightly* different. I'll give you a singular example that has the same arc as your product but again, different motives.. Just remember your phrase "printed into oblivion".
Oregon tort, a very deep blue old school Acropora. Way back before my time, it was a must have. Everybody had to have one, and these corals all originate from a single original mother colony. So every single piece came from a SINGLE collected colony. So here's the value arc of a single particular coral -- and they all do this.
1) Everybody had to have it. It's value in the very early 2000's was probably 40-50 for a 1" frag (piece). As time went on, and everybody had to have it, saturation picked up heavily... So as everybody started growing and selling bits of it, it went down to about 30 for a 1" frag in 2004/5, as it got more saturated and the price got lower and lower, people stopped wanting it... Because everybody had it, and you stop wanting what you see in every reef tank.
2) So then the market flat lines, peak 'low' if you will.. And it sits there, as something that has been so over saturated nobody wants it anymore. Years and years go on, nobody wanting it. Nobody trading, selling, or "collecting" it. Then suddenly...
3) That over saturated coral slowly becomes rare, because nobody wanted it for so long that nobody has it anymore.... Now in 2015 it's coming back and starting to sell for $80+ for a 1" frag. Here we are in 2019, and it's an easy $100-120 1" coral. Sells almost instantly.
4) In 5 years, everybody will have it again, and it will hit a 'modern low', which is more stable, but will continue to have mini cycles.
I figured on some level, you might enjoy that. It's really all the same... From MTG, to golfing, to vintage video games, to freaking corals.
Haha I was thinking about reefing too. I work in the reef industry and coral sales are their own demon.
Is there a channel where they pump up Coral box prices?
FREAKING CORALS!
@@CaiusGnome I know you're just joking... But yes. Several in fact. Same with equipment for the hobby as well. Not even kidding lol.
Tell me more about this reef keeping...
Thanks man.
Love you bro, peace .
Heya Ruby, great video to watch these days.
I now find myself wandering, where does stay the course originate from!
God I am just in awe of magic perseverance. It's amazing and beautiful- as someone been in the magic game longer than mostly everyone
I like how there are little dust particles floating down around him as he touches to shelf
Rudy, and the Professor, had better still be around making videos in ten years time!
On the other topic. Physical Magic will always be a thing, as will books, comics and video games. Because at the end of the day, digital will continue to grow, but nothing beats the physical equivalent you can actually hold. As they even showed in Detroit: Become Human with Hank’s love for the smell of an actual book 😊
Yooooo Rudy Back at it again
my paper life cycle was Kaladesh, to m19. On the digital end it'll be guilds of ravnica to m20. I guess I'm in the got mad category. Honestly, the game is always changing, and that's fine. But just like I did when I was a kid during Ice age, I'll come back once there is that exact confluence of positive pr, hype, excitement, and innovation that makes this game so great.
Happy Father’s Day Ruby!
I don't understand Magic but I like this channel :D
A glimpse of Rudy's vault! Interesting seeing how you organize cards for single card orders🤔
wait until you see the giant human flesh eating centepide who protects the shelf
All the bear cards that were worth nothing are now expensive... $20 a piece for river bear mtg world is meme city
Big picture? Every month when I add a couple boxes to my shelf is just adding bricks to my castle. Can't unbuild it ;)
I love every set with eldrazi, if I could I'd buy a box of each set
I see a Legend.
We're having a Fallen Empire release party planned to celebrate 25 years of Fallen Empire in Novermber! Our whole playgroup is chipping in to have a FE booster draft 😂 We're paying not for the cards, but the trip back to 1994. Already looking forward to that.
When EM came out I remember how the boxes were supposed to be mappable and loose packs were being sold cheap.
Rudy is preparing to unload his entire inventory
Time changes all Timmys, but there’s a Timmy born every minute
The gospel of the Timmy...
*Praise to our Lord Creepy Rudy*
Hi Rudy.
Don't you dare dissapear Rudy.
I feel like I'd go crazy if I was ever released inside Ruby's card storage room
Philosophical Rudy
Open dark ascension box!!! Grave crawler is spiking because bridgevine decks. What is your position on blessed vs cursed duel decks?
Kyleigh Roessner I love that set, predator ooze is my favorite card.
Happy Fathers day Rudy, I hope you have a "proud to be a Father" day!
"YE who really waits and stays the course is rewarded the most"
TIMMIES . . . TIMMIES NEVER CHANGE . . .
If you're not doing videos in 10 years, I'll scream
Rudy's right, people come and go after a year or three... Then they say (after checking prices) "I shouldn't have left my cards out in the shed, now they're ruined and I can't sell them".
I have actually witnessed it.. Oh and Ruby, on a long enough timeline the survivability of ANYTHING drops to zero.. Nice try.. LOL
Good Video !!! 👍
Ruby if u think I didn’t spend the whole video staring at all those beautiful innistrad booster boxes you are a floppy taco on Wall Street
Rudy please dont cut me with that box cutter ok
Watch out for his tool!
Just keep ordering Patron boxes and no one gets hurt!
Hey Rudy! When are you going to show us the storage room of dreams, timmies and floppy tacos?
YOU'RE 38?! HOLY JESUS I THOGHT YOU WERE 25/26 WTF ?!?
(and don't you dare go away in 10 years Roods, we need your great content, all of it. You're an inspiration and definetly a great dood)
Yayyy Ruby
I see a Harvester of souls on the thumbnail
Words of wisdom by Ruby.
Did Rudy mention (Fight Club) a book/movie? He doesn't have time for that!
Bearded Rudy trying to figure out the Timmys is great entertainment
And I thought to myself, what a wonderful world
I like to think that global stock market is embodiment of collective unconscious(MM edition). These little Timmy waves pile up slowly and at some point of time center of the markets shifts away.
Didn’t listened to the entire video, was busy fixing the Innistrad boxes hoping Rudy would open one.
Wolverine Ruby!
RUDY, where the HELL is all the boxes om M15?? I can't find any ANYWHERE.
Hey rudy! Some random guy here who goes with the giggities. What do you think about the next recession/depression/crash? Are you preapared for it? What are your thoughts?
Timmies come and go, Rudy is eternal.
Happy Timmy's day everyone!
that spit drop on the camera, rudy getting excited
I'll have 6 or more war of the spark boxes for sale.. in a few years lol.
Ranger-Captain of Eos will spike next week.
Rudy beard growth is compensating for his thinning hair. Bro been there done that...let it go just like your pushing of magic origins!
Imagine walking into his store and hearing this. *INTO OBLIVION*
Ruby, put some friggin pants on!!!!
Patience is a virtue. My old Pokemon cards I collected as a dumb little kid, well the ones I didn't destroy at least, they're worth a pretty little penny now cause I decided to hold onto them. I still use a lot of those cards now that my little nephew has gotten into the game too. When I see him bending his cards I cringe, but what can you do? Kids will be kids. In the end TCGs are a fun bonding game, the financial side is just the cherry on top.
I think the point for people though is that you need a 2-3 year investment cycle. If you blow all you 3 year capitol in the 1st year you have none for years 2 and 3.
For the timmys if you have $90k, invest £30K year 1, another in year 2 and another in year 3 and then year 4 the 1st years pays for it.
You get the idea.
In ten years we'll all be singing "Goodbye Ruby Tuesday"
Sometimes i realize I watch an investors channel from Rudy and that I am just a player of the game. I buy cards and boxes for the fun and game. I care slightly less about price and have a max price I am willing to spend on cards depending on types and abilities. My one good thing? I never every did any card away myself since I started to play in 1995. Sometimes I put an EDH deck together and my eyes laze at the market price of a single I got. My mind then things ' that much? that is need' and I proceed to sleeve it in the deck I use it in and all is forgotten again. An investor might go nuts, but as a regular player i just use the card because I think it will be fun or good to use it in a deck. I guess that is the difference between an investor or a player (thou I know people that are both).
Hey Rudy... you should moderate that Chalupa Taco Bell income... it is starting to show...
WOTC should make a Conspiracy card called Printed into Oblivion with the art as Rudy with his hands up walking away surrounded by Eldritch Moon boxes everywhere
I think buying a box of fallen empires might be a cry for help.
We get a small look at Ruby's lucrative repacking stock.
Philosophy Rudy
This might be kinda a dumb question, but what is a Timmy?
Happy Father's day! Hope Mr. Greed monster's penny stocks got him something nice 💰💰💰
It's funny how much I like this channel. I'll watch a full video about effectively nothing.
I cannot believe Fallen Empires is selling for that much. I bought booster boxes of that when I was 15 for like $75. That was after it came out and flopped like a beached whale.
RUDY!!!!!!!!!!!
How many SOJs for a box?
Raaanch lmao
Once a Timmy always a Timmy
Ruby.....is your hair getting thinner? I see shiny parts coming through the front hair part....pulling your hair out at the desolate lighthouse? 🤭
How much money have Rudy in that room??????????
saw four seconds after dropped
If Rudy doesn't make videos ten years from now where am I supposed to get my floppy tacos and Timmies?
Preach it. RUDY, not Ruby. Stop the ruby 2019
why did you cut at 7:48 ? Slip on a taco?
I'm a relatively new MTG player (2 years collective) and I can attest to what this video is saying. Friends of mine who have been playing Magic for close to two decades tell me stories of how they were ripping, say Dark Depths, when they first released because they thought the card was garbage. They largely regret having done that, not knowing that the value of the cards would appreciate this much. And I don't know what the value of all the Ajanis I'm collecting will be in a decade but as a collector, I'm not going to throw away any card that comes my way just because I think its garbage. For all I know, it could be a good investment.
any one want to place bets on weather Rudy is doing videos in 10 years??
Half of the bulk commons I bought on a whim 12 months ago are now pushing up over 50c a card.
Set a limit of how new a set you're prepared to use on the kitchen table and hoard the older shit. Not difficult.
I’ve been collecting and playing magic since 1993. How about everyone else?
I've played since the days of Antiquities.
Saw the last pack of Arabian nights sell out of my lgs Jan 1994
Tempest
Played since February 1996, started just before Alliances
DTK, ORI and EMN are still all going below MSRP including shipping price...
It's an investment when you lay on a yacht in the côte d'azur drinking champagne from the interest you're making. If you're sending hundreds of boxes each month and triaging cards every day to be able to buy food, you're working a job.
thanks your like the father figure I've never had ;)
My question is, and i know that the answer its very complex and relative, when to stop holding a product.
Edit: Okay, just saw it, as you said a couple of years after they stop printing
*BUY HIGH! SELL LOW!*
-biz
Off topic, but I saw someone wearing your 3.6969696969% women shirt at MagicFest and my friend got a huge kick out of it
What are some of the oldest sets in your storage/collection?
Who care's about stocks, steal guitar cases outside metro stations and get your next 1000$ deck which you will probably let dust off.
Almost every day on CNBC there someone saying you need to buy healthcare" "invest in GE" lol
I like pre 2000 cards my deck is.old
