Core Sets were supposed to bring back Birds of Paradise, Howling Mines, Pain Lands, Sylvan Library. What we got was hot garbage.

Yeah, that used to be their role, the solid core of useful cards. The card pool should technically look like a best of Cube, rarity permitting. But WotC got to look after the secondary market.
I remember core 10 and 11... man those were fun.
As a casual non investor magic player I appreciate your evaluation. It shows that you are intelligent instead of a store owner just trying to sell boxes. The way you present yourself is of a higher level. It may just be talking about the costs of boxes and how things age, but it shows you do your research and know what you’re talking about.

The main reason i buy sealed boxes to sit on... is so i can open and "re-live it" 10 years from now and NOT pay 2x 3x a box.

The new phyrexia set is out of control expensive. Shadowmoore block is stupidly expensive. Original zendikar is like $600 or so a box..

I was one of your 30 patreons rudy who bought core 2019 lol. I think i bought a case of 6 boxes. Fast foward now to july 2020...i still have them and damn things still haven't moved up. Arghhhh
I'm a broke ass Timmy so I can't be a patron but I wanted you to know your videos bring me joy. I especially like the box openings because I can't afford to buy cards anymore and they satisfy my need to break boxes/packs, but videos like this are cool too because they keep me up-to-date with the world of MTG. At least I can still play Magic Arena!

I love how to can teach the layman about price theory and “pet your box at night” in the same video
I was still able to grab Dominaria at 80 a box a couple of months ago so grabbed a couple of cases, I also still really like M19 and sitting one a few dozen boxes of that. Even if M19 appreciates slowly I don't mind, it's something I looked at long term form the moment I got the boxes.
Another lucky find for me, but sad news in the community was I found a store closing down at the start of 2019 (shame really, the store had been around since the 90s and was one I'd bought from many times over the last 20+ years) and selling off all of their stock cheap and was able to grab some Hour of Devastation at 50 a box. I also grabbed many of their card sleeves, play mats and other assorted goodies (offered him more than he listed them at since I got the Devastation boxes so cheap) for next to nothing.
Can still remember when 4th edition was 10 dollars a starter deck, for years. So core sets being unappreciated has been a thing since the first core set.
That last minute on info was gold.
I hope they don't get rid of Corsets!

You are right rudy. If i had money id do like you buy ton of reserved list cards and scealed products to sit on for 20 years and make more money with it. But how to start that kind of business model if i have no capital today and im close to 40 years old. And selling my old mtg isnt an option. I dont have much but i like those cards anyways.
This is an interesting point to make as well, since Amonkhet boxes are at $94-$100 a box ( on Amazon ), and Hour of Devastation is around $90 ( Also Amazon ).
So even garbage fire releases that did horribly, you can say are appreciating positively, even if by a little bit, and will always continue to go up.
I guess the Rudy Maneuver as I'll call it, is to find sealed product that is " guaranteed " to do well, or has been, buy it low, let it appreciate for the most.
I mean heck, you think Modern Horizons is expensive now? Ask that question again this time around next year.
Crucible of worlds is $30 alone. I got 7 during draft and trades. I think scapeshift is awesome too! Under appreciated set👍

M20 has that $30 Chandra and some other cards that are worth a decent amount. M19 had some good cards too like Crucible of Worlds and Nicol Bolas, The Ravager.
For me, core sets are made for new players. Neat little booster packs, to improve your new deck.
I got started with the dominaria pre constructed Teferi deck and made it better with m19 cards. I was able to have fun with friends playing for longer than me

@@darthkoo6158 nah. Usually in every set there's at least 10 cards I want. That set. Absolutely none. Nothing that supported any of my playstyles better than anything I didnt already have. So to me garbage set by comparison to core 20 which has to my count 8 cards I like. That's 8 more than horizons had.

Most people hate core 19 but it’s genuinely one of my favourite sets it was fun to play and had decent cards

Not only are nearly all of the rares worth less than $3, Reliquary Tower, an uncommon, is worth more than the majority of the rares in the set.

normally I agree with Rudy on buy boxes... but m19 was so mythic heavy... I bought a few hundred scapeshift, crucible, omni during march. waiting till they go up. dump on CK buy list in a year or two

Timmy's don't just exist in Magic, though... there are also Kellog's Corn Flakes Timmy, Limited Edition boxes. Creating scarcity has been a marketing strategy for a while.
That being said, I could not find (with about 3 minutes of searching) any OOP box set sealed Magic product that had not gone up in price over time... other than Dragon Maze.
What's that in the background is that all the money wizards is making?
Core2019's main selling points are Crucible of Wolrds and Scapeshift. People didn't care at first, because the reprints crashed their prices. Now the cards are going back up again and people buy Core 2019, hoping that Crucible and Scapeshift continue to go back up, until they're at $40+ like before the reprint.

You can tell how deep you're in by the weirdness of the sex rituals you have to perform. In the beginning it's just tame stuff like a little box petting here and there, but the more you move inward in his circles-within-circles initiatic Patreon society the weirder the sex rituals get. In the end you're full blown Jeffrey Epstein sex island getting massages from underage girls while playing Vintage matches.
I don't see how it couldn't go up. It has cards that would be played in higher tier modern decks and a lot of good cards for commander. Maybe not every rare and every Mythic are worth $30+ but there are several that will keep going up.

Fun fact, your box going up “$10 a year” is more than 10% per year. This would assume you paid $100 per box the initial year...

The core sets are just not very exciting when it comes to hot singles. The exciting thing to me about core sets is drafting them. The other exciting thing is Wizards cranked up the power level of commons, so I'm hoping some cards see Pauper play. I think the core sets could use a little more umpf. They need to bring masterpiece cards back but only put them in core sets.
"Unless you put like, shock lands, fetch lands..." Why don't they do that? It's not like shock lands *aren't* in standard, and it would be a real dick move if they didn't eventually put fetch's back in standard. Why don't they start saving all the high value reprints for the core sets? It feels like it's *literally* the reason those sets exist; random stuff that would be cool to reprint in standard, but wouldn't make sense thematically in a different set. Maybe they're starting to do that, with the Leylines in M20 and all.
Any word on Modern Horizons restocks Rudy? Or has it been a slow drip in restocking? I've been waiting for a video from you announcing a second wave before I buy some more boxes to sit on.
