  • Geoff Gallante plays "Yellow Rose of Texas Varations" with the Plano Community Band.
Every bit a showman--even at just barely 11yrs old--Geoff knows how to play to his audience. Here he treats hisPlano Community Band (Texas) audience to a thrilling rendition of 'Yellow Rose of Texas'. Dressed the part in cowboy hat and bolo tie, too bad the video can't show the nice boots Geoff had picked up there in Dallas just for the occasion...Geoff did however proudly show them off to the crowd before starting in on this
This exciting score, following the traditional cornet theme and variations, was written by the talented Lewis J. Buckley, former conductor of the U.S. Coast Guard Band

For the non-brass players who are listening, what he's doing at 3:15 to 3:30 is HARD. The combination of double-tonguing and/or triple-tonguing while precisely moving the fingers in conjunction with the tongue is something most players never even approach, much less master to such a fine degree. Also, notice that he does not have music in front of him. It's all memorized. You are watching something special, my friends.

Couldn't agree more. Been following this kid since his "Cheek to Cheek" video hit my FB feed. "Something special" is an understatement of Biblical proportions.

What a talent! My professional life has been eclectic and I've seen and heard some phenomenal talent. This young gentleman's playing is, however, one of the greatest delights to which I have ever been treated! He shows remarkable technical prowess, yes but also an innate musical maturity in performance. Bravo youngster!

The fact that this kid is so much younger than me and can do that memorized is outstanding

Geoff Gallante is amazing, fantastic, beyond belief. We had the pleasure of hearing him live in concert at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida last March. To our utter amazement, he could also play the piano equally well. See him in concert if you can!

One can imagine the adults, the professionals and highly skilled players of this fine and august orchestra of dedicated musicians, at the peak of their career, saying "I can see it but I don't believe it.. I can see it happening in front of me but I don't believe it!"
I like them have put in the hours, the scales. the arpeggi-wotsits, breathing exercises, (need I go on?) and have made some acceptable noises in front of some BIG audiences, in EU and US, have been paid AND asked to come back. BUT I'm NOT (many of us aren't) in this guy's league!
Unfortunately for Geoff, he is flowering in an age of diminishing reverence or appreciation of talent, OF ANY SORT!
A kid was being interviewed and said that she wanted to be famous.
The interviewer asked "Famous for what?"
Silly girl answered "What do you mean for what? I just want to be famous!"
Well she is NOW if anonymously!.
Old Geoff may have to enjoy the adulation of folks of his parent's generation or earlier and watch audiences taper off through the years.
The new generation doesn't like music..They just like the noise it makes
The cream of the best has gone and I am privileged to have lived through the back end of the best.
    Beatles...Schmeatles...
"Dad. What was it like in your day>"
"In MY day? Get used to it Beginner.. I'm having my day NOW! This is MY day. You should hope and pray that I allow you to live long enough to reach YOUR day!"
    My day indeed!

Is this orchestra an amateur group? They seem to have no interest in this great talent. Maybe 'cause not one of them is up to Geoff's level?
