+mike travis - Having known a few beloved public figures and celebrities I can only say that what the public sees on the stage does not reflect the private life very often. Borge was a brilliant performer. A music and comedic genius. He enriched our lives in a wonderful way. We ought leave it at that.
I was blessed to attend 2 of his programs. If not laffing profusely, I was grinning from ear to ear until it hurt. His talent was unending....sadly so very rare now.
I once met him in a club I was working in. He was the funniest man I ever knew. He sat there telling me the funniest jokes whilst I was trying to work. I was in so much pain from laughing I had to leave and come back later when he was gone.
My dad and I memorized his sketches, and to this very day we can still "mouth" them word for word! Brilliant dry sarcastic sense of humour!!!!! The absolute best.
No matter how many times you watch this, it NEVER looses ANY of its original "flavour," simply because Victor was a Master of Comedy, in addition to being a brilliant, talented pianist who could play anything. There was NO ONE to compare with Victor when he was alive, and there's undoubtedly been NO ONE since ! R.I.P. Victor - we miss you 🤗 xxx
I would suggest Ken Dodd was as good a comedian and a fair singer. But Doddy holds a special place in my heart. Both incredible comedians and modern comedians could learn a lot from them.
When I was a little girl and Victor would be on one of the 3 stations on our TV we laughed and enjoyed his amazing talents. Wonderful man and time. God bless.
Growing up my father was a great fan of Victor Borge. I was living with my wife in Connecticut and invited my father and his girlfriend up from NYC. They were both in there late 60's. We purchased tickets, killing our budjet, for my fathers birthday to see Victor's performance at the then New Fairfield Playhouse. Halfway thru the performance they were both asleep snoring. We were mortified and worried he would see them and make them part of his show. In retrospect I wish he had!
I saw him in person 3 times. He was amazing. None stop laughter .We left the venue with our sides aching from laughing each time. What a joy his shows were, he was a great Comedian but He was really a marvellous Musician ! Wish I could see him again.
Thank God for this one- of-a-kind musical& comic genius. Never knew this kind of man existed on this planet before. Not until now... thanks CZcams for bringing Victor Borge to us!
I’m almost 65 and remember him as a child. Had our family laughing every time we saw him. He does a skit where he gives sounds to all punctuation of a story. Simply hilarious
I am so sad that it took me 30 years to find out about this wonderful man. This was comedic perfection! Not a missed line, not a wasted word! Even the "hiden" joke, which I think he may very well have improvised!
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston shortly before he passed away. It was one of the best "concerts" I ever attended. He truly was one of a kind.
I was just trying to find that one clip of him flipping the music the right way up but ended up starting a binge. He was SO funny. When he started singing I woke up everyone in my house laughing in the middle of the night
I had forgotten about Victor....brings back memories of my Grandfather laughing out loud (which almost never happened) while watching this guy. I was young but I knew there was magic in this man's show.
Victor Borge was also hilariously funny when interviewed. I've seen video clips of him on the Tonight Show way back when Jack Paar was host and he had the audience absolutely roaring with laughter.
This performance is perfected even more once you realize that the curtain came down with such force it knocked the mic off its stand at 10:02. Splendid.
Thank you for posting-stomach hurts from laughing at his brilliant show!! Remember watching him when I was little and my musician parents were laughing so hard!! He’s timeless!!🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏
True story. My brother George Groot was a piano tuner and he tuned the Grand piano for Victor Borge in the 1940`s in the Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids,Michigan and about 6 years later he came again to give a concert and after him meeting hundreds of people all over the world my brother was touching up the piano before the concert and Victor walked in and said Well, hello George!
This is pure genius! So talented in music but not snobbish as many are. Great sense of humor and English was not his first language! The World misses his talent. We don't have anything similar for quality anymore.
Saw Victor Borge in Orange Texas in the early 80’s I laughed and laughed. It was one of the best nights of my life .. at least we can still enjoy him through CZcams!
Love this guy! The singing was priceless! And that plot twist! "Her father is not happy. Now it's her turn" *commences saprano singing* "fwafwafwafwafwafwa" *skips the whole story* " - and then she dies by stabbing herself between the two trees". XD
The stupid and the jealous people. It's always like this. Whatever you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. You just have to ignore them.
What can one say about Victor Borge that hasn't already been said. Over many, many years I've kept my collection of Victor Borge recordings, VHS tapes, now CDs etc. Mr Borge has always been there for me whenever I feel down or a little blue... he always reminds me that this is what real entertainment is all about; well-practiced but always seeming fresh and immediate. Never a swear word or risqué dialogue; just pure talent for comedy, talent in timing and scripting. Above all of that Mr Borge was a true musical genius. He could make one cry with laughter or induce the most sentimental of tears when he occasionally, played some of his 'serious' material. Thanks to uploads from people like you, Mr Borge will be around for countless generations and be enjoyed and admired for a lifetime of making people laugh and be happy. Thank you. BH
Victor was part of a world of such talented and polished performers and artists who had amazing discipline, knowledge and skill. They made it all look so effortless. My philosophy teacher said "a genius makes the complicated and difficult look simple ."
I remember listening to him on Dad's record player. 'Caught in the act,' was the name of the album. Even today he still one of my favourite comedy acts and puts a smile on my face.
"She's a big soprano -she's about 4 and a half feet tall... lying down!" was the line that made me fall in love with Victor Borge, when I heard it, in my childhood, on a Royal Command performance concert on television and it stayed with me, all these years! I always longed to see the rest of the routine again. Thank-you for uploading this.
I LEFT the USNAVY in 1956 oand took my dad to a d Borge show in Boston, had many laughs and good time. My dad could not carry a tune in a basket, but he certainly enjoyed the performance There are many in the entertainment world that can pla the piano, BUT, to play as well as he did was a masterpiece and a lot of fun. "They're dressed in a kind of cheap underwear - if the audience can't see properly there's no point in spending money on expensive costumes, that's the way the management of this theatre feels about it and that's the way it's gonna be."
There was such a glorious era for comedy in the 50s through the '70s, Victor among them. To a young boy as I was, it was charm and humor to the max. I thought they were institutions, glad to see these videos exposing more generations to these passed treasures that touched us so.
Once when a storm had blown part of the roof off his house he said that guests were still welcome but to bring their own umbrellas. Nu sulking, just pure genius.
He was too nervous to play serious recitals, that's why he can't be a serious concert pianist. He find comedic pianist more comfortable, it suits him better But he still practise many hours a day, which gives him great technique and sound touch
He was a gentle joyful gentleman, wonderful humour, excellent cultured pianist, witty and subtle. He wouldn't have had a chance in today's entertainment world. THank you for the download.

As a musician you have absolutely no.idea how talented and fantastic a musician you have to be to pull this off . He might have been funny but fully accomplished musician is an understatement .

I watched him many times on tv growing up in the UK … I moved to canada and my mum and dad had come over for a visit and I took them to Ontario Place in Toronto and totally unexpected discovered he was performing … sitting on the grass not many feet away from him was absolutely wonderful
When we lost him the world grew a little sadder. What a brilliant entertainer.
Incredible: Two talents, a very very funny man and an incredible pianist. No one has mentioned what a great musician he is.
So right.
Agreed
Perhaps, Joel & Co, because his genius is so bleeding obvious, that it does not need to be stated ??
Imagine having this man as your Granddad. How fantastic would that be!
He actually was apparently a rather stern parent. That doesn't mean he wasn't fun of course :-)
+mike travis - Having known a few beloved public figures and celebrities I can only say that what the public sees on the stage does not reflect the private life very often. Borge was a brilliant performer. A music and comedic genius. He enriched our lives in a wonderful way. We ought leave it at that.

You don't have a grandfather? What would he thinks?
I was blessed to attend 2 of his programs. If not laffing profusely, I was grinning from ear to ear until it hurt. His talent was unending....sadly so very rare now.
Hello! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!.... Stay safe!
I would like to adopt him as my grandpa! Absolutely marvellous human being: intelligent, funny, talented and warm...
The jokes he told me could not be repeated on stage.

There is someone who is doing similar stuff, but is still alive - have you heard of Hans Liberg?
I would suggest Ken Dodd was as good a comedian and a fair singer. But Doddy holds a special place in my heart.
Both incredible comedians and modern comedians could learn a lot from them.
When I was a little girl and Victor would be on one of the 3 stations on our TV we laughed and enjoyed his amazing talents. Wonderful man and time. God bless.
Hello! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!.... Stay safe!
"Mozart in four flats,,,because he had to move three times" Priceless!
His humor was incredibly ingenious!
Works with English only, however, absolutely delightful.

In German we say "In 4 Aufzügen" and I think, how they can do it in four lifts, because each can transport up to 10 persons.
He was a joke teller pianist wannabe.
I saw him in person 3 times. He was amazing. None stop laughter .We left the venue with our sides aching from laughing each time. What a joy his shows were, he was a great Comedian but He was really a marvellous Musician ! Wish I could see him again.
@Hello Carole how are you doing
Thank God for this one- of-a-kind musical& comic genius. Never knew this kind of man existed on this planet before. Not until now... thanks CZcams for bringing Victor Borge to us!
Me too
I’m almost 65 and remember him as a child. Had our family laughing every time we saw him. He does a skit where he gives sounds to all punctuation of a story. Simply hilarious
@@jamesswigert5666 I want to watch this 😣
@@MJAY-N7129 it’s on YT. Victor Borge on the Ed Sullivan show
I just did the exact same thing!!🤣
Gosh … I’d love to have a grandpa like him . Our world would be a better place with more Borge’s … how unfortunate we don’t 😢
The guy has such class he doesn’t need to do the mic drop when he finishes, the curtain does it for him :D
Nice catch!
👍
....but hopefully not too hard.
He was the funniest piano player who ever lived.
.people like him should live forever
He is the best comedian, presenter, musician, person I have ever seen. He is so genuine and completely hysterical!! Love victor borge!!
One of the most talented human beings ever! A true genious!
@Hello Jimmy how are you doing
What is particularly remarkable about him, is that he only spoke danish when he left his home - An extraordinarily talented man.
So this was filmed in his house?
I am so sad that it took me 30 years to find out about this wonderful man. This was comedic perfection! Not a missed line, not a wasted word! Even the "hiden" joke, which I think he may very well have improvised!
That Haydn joke definitely wasn't improvised; part of his genius is performing it in such a way that it _looks_ improvised.
This man's knowledge is beyond encyclopaedic. And his talent is beyond measure.
Even if you say that, that doesn't mean we can't do it as well, he worked hard for it, but that doesn't mean he's perfect, he's a human after all.
For sure, but he's astonishing, nonetheless.

This performance is perfected even more once you realize that the curtain came down with such force it knocked the mic off its stand at 10:02. Splendid.
Thank goodness you pointed this out! So funny and so perfect!!
The original mic drop. 😂
Thank you for posting-stomach hurts from laughing at his brilliant show!! Remember watching him when I was little and my musician parents were laughing so hard!! He’s timeless!!🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏

One of the most talented comedians of all time. His humour & talent are timeless
What a nice thing for your bro and what a rare personality this virtuoso guy !
I will humbly apologize in advance, sir. But........you are GROOT!
What a stunning story. And to have Victor Borge remember that after 6 years is just amazing.
As one of the current generation of piano tuners I would be ecstatic if someone like Victor Borge remembered me when I tuned their piano for a concert
Mystical, and you are obviously much too young. Now run along.....
Haven’t watched him for years. Brings back such happy memories of his comedic genius as well as his musical ability. A complete joy!

This is pure genius! So talented in music but not snobbish as many are. Great sense of humor and English was not his first language! The World misses his talent. We don't have anything similar for quality anymore.
not only is he a great pianist-his masterful delivery of his very funny little opera plots is highly enjoyable.
Saw Victor Borge in Orange Texas in the early 80’s I laughed and laughed. It was one of the best nights of my life .. at least we can still enjoy him through CZcams!
I loved him. He was part of my childhood and youth. Warm, gentle and deightfully mischievous in his humour. Greatly missed......
The perfect marriage of musical and comedic genius. Long live Victor through these recorded performances.

How anybody could possibly put a thumbs down to this jewel of a man and performer, is beyond me.

I agree...but some people like wearing tight shoes and others lack the capacity to appreciate genius. We are more fortunate than them.

Thank you. BH
@Hello Bill how are you doing
Victor was part of a world of such talented and polished performers and artists who had amazing discipline, knowledge and skill. They made it all look so effortless. My philosophy teacher said "a genius makes the complicated and difficult look simple ."
This skit had me crying!!! SO FUNNY!!!
Simple, old-fashioned, clean humor.
Made my night!
I saw him in the little theatre house in HERSHEY PA. around 1977 or so. The audience almost never stopped laughing and applauding.. He was magical.
I remember listening to him on Dad's record player. 'Caught in the act,' was the name of the album. Even today he still one of my favourite comedy acts and puts a smile on my face.
I really miss funny talented people like Victor Borge. I can't think of anyone else who even comes close.
What about Danny Kaye or Red Skelton?

"She's a big soprano -she's about 4 and a half feet tall... lying down!" was the line that made me fall in love with Victor Borge, when I heard it, in my childhood, on a Royal Command performance concert on television and it stayed with me, all these years! I always longed to see the rest of the routine again. Thank-you for uploading this.
I LEFT the USNAVY in 1956 oand took my dad to a d Borge show in Boston, had many laughs and good time. My dad could not carry a tune in a basket, but he certainly enjoyed the performance
There are many in the entertainment world that can pla the piano, BUT, to play as well as he did was a masterpiece and a lot of fun.
I miss my dad, passed in 1997, mother passed in 1991
It's the way he describes the Soprano and the Tenor and her Father . I have seen a sketch he does with an Opera Singer . It's hilarious.
The routine must have varied slightly over the years, as the version on the LP I have is slightly different.

"These big, fat opera singers...with their heavy arias."
He was a sweet comical genius and a world-class piano virtuoso!
@silverbud
He could if he wanted to, but like some others he found this more rewarding.
He was too nervous to play serious recitals, that's why he can't be a serious concert pianist. He find comedic pianist more comfortable, it suits him better
But he still practise many hours a day, which gives him great technique and sound touch
That creased me up !!
Reminds me of Monty Python and the princess with the "HUGE.... tracts of land!"
