i've seen many versions of this performance, but never with the hershey joke before. as much as i love the musical humor, it was his wordplay that made me appreciate borge so much. also, mulvey was a pro for doing this routine with him and still sounding great.
She has a really lovely voice and it’s hard to play the straight part like this yet she is Bob on pitch whatever the distraction and distractions there are a many with Borge being his delightful and very funny self xx
hahaha, je n'avais pas encore cette version ... les moments où il "chante " sont d'une épouvantable drôlerie ... respect pour Marilyn , ce n'est pas facile d'être dans ce rôle ... ...sans rire !!
For about 80 years Victor has done, not only his unique comedy, but he educated tens of thousands of people about classical music (just as Disney did in his own way). This would have been a new comedy genre today, recognized world wide, but I guess that since 1909 until today there was no person that could follow up his artistry (I do apologies in case that someone is doing this today, so please correct me if I'm wrong) or become his successor. This makes Mr Borge a one of a kind genius and artist who made the entire world laugh for something we've never seen before and we might never will again. That's how great he was.
While not quite the same, PDQ Bach is another classical music + humor talent that's worth listening to. I recommend the 1712 overture as a good introduction to his music.
Any person alive that can distract an entire audience away from (quite possibly) one of the most beautiful voices you’ll ever here - is inarguably the true and only greatest of all time.
Since the first time I ever saw her, I have been in love with Marilyn Mulvey, Talented both musically and comedicaly and B B B beautiful beyond belief !!!!!!!!! I have also heard what a great and gracious person she is.
I ADORED Victor Borge! In my lifetime I have written only TWO fan letters… and they were very LENGTHY! Practically Compositions! One fan letter to Bob Hope… the other to the most talented and hilarious V. Borge!! How AMAZING he was!! I have MANY of his recordings!!! As a young girl my family saw him perform in Louisville, KY!! WHAT A TALENT!! Hope he is in Heaven when I arrive…
Full credit to Marilyn also - just like Connie Booth (Monty Python) and Ann-Marie Martin (Sledge Hammer), she was in on the joke, AND ENJOYED IT. Legend! Thank you for the upload - Victor's always watchable, giving us genuine fun and laughter, which we need - R.I.P.
Oh I so wished my mother could have seen this clip - she would have so enjoyed it (she loved the classics but passed on five years ago 🥲💫💫) however a all time favourite with me RIP Mr Borge and Mother !! 🔆🔆
Genius has many forms, but this exceeds all limits, it is something truly incredible and amazing in which musical talent and humor are combined in an expression of the highest artistic level...congratulations Mr. Borge and company.
The man is genius! He's funny when he's not trying. This is comedy gold. ( My fave is when Victor Borge depicts all the orchestra players on his return to Copenhagen)
WE NEED A HOLIDAY ... VICTORS DAY ... AND ON THAT DAY ALL MUSICIANS MUST PLAY A PARODY AND ALL NON MUSICIANS MUST LOCK THEMSELVES AWAY .. UNTIL NEXT VICTORS DAY
For me, I thought the older he got, the funnier he was. With more character to his face as he aged, it made his facial expressions even more hilarious.
These two did this bit for many years. If you watch some older videos of it, Marilyn can barely keep her composure. She became the perfect "straight man" to Victor's comedy.
[He's established that there are no women in the ensemble] "Each musician is an artist in his own right. It's when they get together that there's a problem."
I love that he has got the same jokes for 40+ years and they stay funny forever
Just shows how much charisma the man had. How many comedians do you or I know who can do the same jokes for 40 years and is still an absolute riot?
The man was a living Monty Python skit. Pure classic immortal comedy.
jokes on classical music are also classic as well lol
It is not the jokes. It is how he made those jokes.
❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💐
Hehim, Pennsylvania.... LOLOL. As I've mentioned before, Miss Mulvey deserves a medal for not cracking up.
Now I call this a humor. Not the bullshit we have today. This man was a Genius. Rest in Peace Maestro
I absolutely agree.
I got to see him in concert with my father, one of the few times I was the happiest of my life.
@@MercenaryX21 oh you are so lucky
So true, this is clean humor, and yes it's not like the B.S. we hear today which is 'rude & crude'
This man just oozes talent and comedy
He does it without even trying
It’s honestly beautiful
"This man" is the one and only Victor Borge.
Absolutely made my day. I remember him as a kid. What a real talent.
I saw him in concert at Escondido in San Diego at the arts center. One of the happiest times I ever had with my father.

instablaster.

Playing straight to Victor was tough.
I sure could not do that. My hat's off to her. And as the original post said, she has a terrific singing voice.
and not laughing... I know they played this act many times but he keeps changing stuff but she is always a pro
I am crying I'm laughing so hard. Borge was a musical and comedic genius.
RIP Victor...thanks for sharing your talent with us!
hahaha, je n'avais pas encore cette version ...

Victor Borge is irreplaceable
Such a treasure and such a pleasure. He is missed so much. By the end of the month it'll be the 20th anniversary of his passing away.
🙏🙏🙏🌹🥀

I feel like there is a lot comedic musicians in modern day, but most of them don't seem to live a little more with humor.
Also Jeff Goldblum is pretty good
The Motzart Group is another one worth checking out!
May be "Les Luthiers", an argentine group

I remember as a kid lying in front of the TV in hysterics...still in hysterics. Thank you for posting this.
me too

Marian Mulvey was a wonderful operatic singer and a great foil for Victor’s humor and jokes. Excellent team, and so funny.
A true gentleman and a musical genius.
Absolutely Great! You don't find anything like Victor Borge anymore. A perfect mix of thoroughbred musician and comedian!
Victor Borge is the Master of Comedian
What a treasure !!
That's right.!!!!!
Oh I so wished my mother could have seen this clip - she would have so enjoyed it (she loved the classics but passed on five years ago 🥲💫💫) however a all time favourite with me RIP Mr Borge and Mother !! 🔆🔆
😑
It truly never gets old!
He was always hilarious. But this soprano was prima. A glorious voice, with a great (and gracious) sense of humor!! 😂
Giuseppe Verdi, that's Joe Green to you. Loved him since the 60's. Hope he's making my mom laugh, as when they both were on earth.
Wonderful singer! and comedian of course!!
Victor Borge was a fantastic actor
I know this dialogue by heart I still laugh obnoxiously..
Avec la belle Marilyn. Toute une voix.
Genius has many forms, but this exceeds all limits, it is something truly incredible and amazing in which musical talent and humor are combined in an expression of the highest artistic level...congratulations Mr. Borge and company.
He always makes me laugh. Whenever I feel a bit down, I look up some of his performances and I feel better
Oh My GOd , what have I discovered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...a bit late, isn't it?
Lucky you... :)
A thing of pure beauty and talent and comedic genius
Love Victor.
There is no one pianist-comedian on the planet except VB.
She has a beautiful voice. He is beyond compare.
Sigue siendo encantadora ❤.
Y ni las bromas la interrumpen 😅. Excelente pianista y humorista. ❤❤❤❤

I love your idea! I will do just that!
Not fair. I'm tone deaf. But I appreciate when other talents entertain me ☺️
"Who wrote this opera?"
"Giuseppe Verdi"
"Why, i mean-"
Haha Joe Greene 😂
@@AT-zr9tv He has translated the name of the composer, this was funny.
He did this when he’s younger but still funny even getting old
For me, I thought the older he got, the funnier he was. With more character to his face as he aged, it made his facial expressions even more hilarious.
@@BenSlover1 the older the better.... he is so relaxed when he is firing his jokes...
I think he's funnier - his timing has matured and there's more subtlety to his comedy and the way he acts it out.
Great audience ! Definitely some Victor fans there that night.
Nice to have proper humour!
So Good love it
what a fantastic singer!
Elle a une voix Extraordinaire et lui un talent incroyabe
Extraordinaire
Now, that is the highest grade humor! Heavy weight professionals at their best!
Great act!
Victor Borge understood pronouns 30 years before the rest of us.
Thanks for memories Mr Borg. Love all of your clips as you where a genius
Loved it. Had me in stitches.
Love the introduction - making sure his audience knows it’s a parody!
killing the joke...

5:38 On The Trail by Ferde Grofe. Amazing classical piece and jazz standard
How is noone commenting on the Joe Green joke? That was incredible
Très marrant
Et bon quelle mise en scène quel pianiste quel humour, et ta voix de cette diva
Bref merveilleux
Increíble, yo no hablo inglés y aún así me hace reír
This is the best. Gah this man was so damn funny and talented

[He's established that there are no women in the ensemble] "Each musician is an artist in his own right. It's when they get together that there's a problem."
I love him
That he him had me on the floor 🤣🤣
Aged like frickin perfect wine
Dos monstruos genios
Awesome
Only just noticed he's playing this even though it's changed and shaped around the jokes as well all without the sheet music
i love it....is like LES LUTHIERS, from Argentina
아~ 멋있다.
A master comedian. And he never used other persons to make his jokes more funny. Well except Mozart, Chopin and all the other great composers ;)
Just imagine having a talk with him and him japing every second sentence :)
Great Scott!!!! It’s PAT SAYJACK!!!!!!!
The real humor 🙏
