Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower czcams.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

Nice choice on going with wright standers mowers. Clumping of the grass is coming from moisture/wet grass, any mower will clump in those conditions. Nice job, They strip real good. Keep up the good work.

Pete in the beginning of 2018 I bought a John Deere 930m with mulch on demand it clumped the same way did some research and talked to a few people the mulch on demand deck was the culprit for my application, deere swapped to a standard deck for me and I haven’t had an issue since

  • @andre-qb6os

I think the clumps came from your grass being wet. Also. Check your tires to make sure they have the same air pressure. The tires air pressure will actually change your deck high before checking the deck itself. And adjust your pitch. I love your videos. I reside in Maryland.

I enjoyed your video. It's nice to see a lawn maintenance guy taking good care of his customers. I would like to ask that if you know people that leave or blow the clippings on the road to please let them know that grass in the road is a danger to people on motorcycles. It makes a slick barrier between the tire and the road that can cause the motorcycle to slip/slide or end up crashing. I would compare it to hitting a patch of ice on your car...but with two wheels. Thanks and have a good one.

I have read poor cut reviews on the wrights. I'm currently looking to add a 36" stander to cut gated yards more efficiently. I had it narrowed to three. Wright, Exmark, Scag. I heard exmark has stop production on their 36" vantage and they're redesigning the unit. Wright being the innovator of the stander had me leaning that way until I read all to complaints regarding quality of cut. That only leaves me one option unless I hold off on the purchase and does some more research. Your videos are awesome Pete, I appreciate it.

I have the same problem with clumps in my field. It only does that with wet or damp grass. If it rains the day before I mow I usually wait until the afternoon to start mowing give the grass time to bake in the Sun and dry out. If we have a bunch of nice dry summer days I just get up and go in the morning but like I said if it rains I wait till the afternoon

My new $500 push mower did the same clumping crap, so I took it back and upgraded. came home next mow was a much better result. We got the house in june, my clumping was from wet think grass, it was from a mower labeled a mulcher that couldn't mulch.

I go north and south then east and west, women tend to vacume too fast, if you do all directions then it will lift the carpets fibers and get more dirt out of it, dirt is why carpet lays down too much it won't come back up. It also helps to use a vacume that has no loss of suction bagless. My Shark works really good, best vacume I've ever owned and I sold Electrolux door to door back when it was not sold in retail stores but only door to door. until I took one home and compared it to my mom's JP Penneys vacume it wasn't any better.

To add to the part regarding mowing height, it also helps if you make sure that your tires are aired up properly as well. A few PSI too much or too little can make a 0.5" difference or more in cut height.

Nice to know other people are as anal about mowing as I am! The clumping: my best guess would be the yard's a little damp, and maybe taking a little too much off. I don't normally bag, but that might have been the answer to avoid the clumping. I normally overlap about 3-4", but I'm less worried about the time it takes. Like your idea about mowing different directions each week. Here's what I do (and it's real easy to remember). One direction each month. March (1st mowing). 12:00 (start at due north), April 1:30, May 3:00, etc. I normally finish up back at the 12:00 position in November. Also, at least for your own yard, consider the cross-hatch. After finishing the yard in one direction I mow every OTHER pass in the opposite direction (parallel to the first direction). Gives a good checkerboard appearance. Pine needles? That means you're south of the Mason-Dixon line (dittoes here). One other thing on "straight lines". Old farming trick: Look off into the distance once you start your pass and keep it straight with a post/tree, etc. Looking short will have you all over the place. Kudos. Considered a mowing business myself but a lot of competition with "cash laborers", besides I've already retired from two sucessful careers!

I cut everyday with a wright z and the best way I found to deal with tall grass is to cut once at the desired height then to go back over the same stripes with the deck all the way up. If you really have a mess it works better to do a different angle stripe on the second cut with the deck all the way which throws the grass a different direction instead of just throwing it back and forth on the same stripes.. for this yard I would cut 12-6 then raise deck all the way up and cut 3-9 which helps not to beat the grass down and also helps throwing the grass evenly across the lawn.. if you use a wright mower I recommend trying my method and see what you think. I found it to be the best way to deal with tall or just wet grass and leave the best finish..

I bought a Wright Sport I with a 48" deck this last Spring. We had a lot of rain early in the season and with wet conditions it clumps really bad. I pulled the baffles off which helped except that when the grass was dryer later in the day there was a ton of "blowout" and the mower and I get covered in clippings. Otherwise in "normal" conditions it absolutely cuts better than my other mowers with the same sized deck. I am still experimenting with different types of blades and different "lifts" to see if I can dial it in better for next Spring. At the moment it is Fall leaf cleanup season and I am using mid-lift Gator blades and it is awesome for collecting leaves. It's like a big vacuum cleaner with almost no "blowout", so it does a great job of bagging them which for me is a real time and body saver.

The grass clumping like that is do to moisture. I live in a very humid area of the states and my grass does the same. I use to live in the California desert and worked on a golf course where we didn't have that issue... unless the greens had just been watered. Try it when the grass hasn't received any water (or much water) for a couple days.

Blades come already sharp. Mower blades are not supposed to be like a knife. It is actually bad for the grass and mower to run blades sharpened to a point like that. Also it causes your blade to dull faster. The way they come is the way they are supposed to be.

    Dude!
You are a wealth of knowledge, and make awesome videos!
I see a lot of lawn addicts mowing without a catch bag, and mulching. Can you please make a video on mowing with a bag catch, versus mulching? If you throw all that recycled grass back out, does that mean you have to de-thatch at the end of the year? Does all that grass completely decompose at the end of the grow season? I just need some serious help with my lawn, and I am wondering if cutting with a bag will pull out the "crap".

  • @JoeBlow-24
    @JoeBlow-24 Před 6 lety +2

My Exmarks never do that, Its all depending on the variation of deck on any given brand on any given year. Guys have made videos about issues exactly like yours, they buy a mower of the same brand that is a year newer that has undergone deck "improvement" and they have issues with clumping or stragglers. Some brands have decks that perform better on different species of grass, I would suggest to you and it will sound nuts but take your mower and run it over some sand for a few minutes. When the decks are brand new and shiny grass will really stick with minimal moisture (ever have your beer mug stick to the bar top as if an elephant was standing on it?) Same concept, the sand will take the gloss off reducing surface tension and allow for much less sticking. You can also try extra high lift blades they will cause more suction and more airflow however it may not be enough to overcome the sticking on a brand new deck, the downside is you will consume a bit more fuel in the process and sound like a Cessna. Just a few things I have learned over the years that can help with clumping, best of luck to you!

The striping was cool. Trying to get that going in my yard as well, but with a sloped back and front lot, it takes much work. I do mulch my yard with a self propelled craftsman walk behind. You stated earlier in the video that it just had rained the other day,. Your grass is a thick fescue and by no means am I an expert, but I repair these guys and many times I see the remains of wet grasses under the decks which cause early rust deposits. In your case since this is your lively hood and probably have a few homes to do each day. It can't be helped to cut wet grass..

Interested to find out your discovery of the clumping.
And was wondering if you ever tried or know someone who uses Ferris, cuz I hear they have the "scag quality/ type of cut" (ferris also has the 37hp vanguard's as does wright , but wright don't have the (rights) to the "oil guard system" as of fall 19' anyway. Great tutorial, here in FL we don't worry bout a lot of "extras" you guys further north, say where leaf clean up occurs, but we still need quality high end manicures. 👍 Thanks

What’s a good residential mower that can still fit in a 3 car garage? I have a Deere ztrack 345R. For one the deck reference highest height says 4inch cut but in reality it only cuts 3.25-3.5. Sucks!

I got various mowers to compare i have a scag v ride 52 advantage deck a pzt husqvarna 60 zero turn , and a toro grandstand 52 , the best cut quality with the best striping ,the best stability steep angles 30°, best dispersal ,best wet conditions for mowing id like to say true 18,000 blade tip speed hands down the Grandstand, I got used to the toro and was wanting more i got the v ride ,but shortly realized i must demo the units before buying !

good info, but i can say each mower works better in different type of lawn. I did test the vride, grandstand, and the gravely prostander. Hands down my best cut quality was with scag vride. For me it was noticeably better than the toro or gravely. I agree with you, you must demo each unit on your lawns

I have no experience with wright and am looking forward to buying one as my next mower(I think) but I have used toros for a long time and love the toro/exmark quality of cut. Theres a reason many golf courses and major league sports stadiums use them.

Kubota or scag. I have a Kubota Zg227z it has never left clumps in the lawn like that . Seems like a lot of work to pull the rake out why not just double cut?

After reading through the comments I see that the grass was damp, which will make any mower clump up a bit. Although different brands may have different flow designs on their decks there are other factors that affect discharge such as cutting speed, how much grass you are taking off, blade type as far as lift, straight, gator type or hybrids, sharpness and blade pitch along with cleanliness of the deck. Wrights also have an adjustment for the height of the blade within the deck itself. I have had good experience with Wright standers and have spent way too much time with all the adjustments and have even talked directly with Wright employees for suggestions, but it comes down to what you are doing on what yard and just takes trial and error.
Currently I run a 36" Wright stander, side discharge, run 1/8" blade pitch, keep the deck about as low to the ground as possible while still being trailer friendly (better striping and suction, I also have a striping kit) and set the blade height inside the deck to cut at 4" (actually measures 3 7/8" front of blade and 4" at back), and I am currently running the Oregon G5 blades which are a high lift gator and I sharpen them weekly and I clean the deck as needed. Getting great results and satisfied customers.
Pete, love your stuff man, keep it up! I'm actually signing up for the GCI Academy right now and just ordered some of your seed. Hope to hear from ya soon man.

Bro ham the reason for the 4 and a quarter on that stander is because it’s a stander ur putting a full size adult on it so there compensating for it the walker is well a walker it’s all it is no more weight going on top ya know
