    Thank you very much for the guide (and the other great content that I'm consuming right now :))! I achieved my first Nightmare (Adventure) win today with Shalore Skirmisher, just 2 days after my actual first win. I took a different prodigy path, as I didn't realize I'd need to get magic to 50 for level 25, as I had only tried to max dexterity (dumping in cunning) up to that point :/ I took Adept, and the ethereal form 2nd. The kind people in ToME discord helped me out during the final fight, which was basically the only point where I kept dying (one death before that IIRC, in the entrance area to the summoner orc pride).

    Just the thought of this tiny furry creature throwing metal balls at you while the giant wyrm he just mind-broke is coming towards your direction-
    Also global speed to offset the loss from sustains and mental resistances or whatever, those are cool too

      I totally understand, the videos are very long (maybe a bit too long).
      My intention was to make the "Leveling Template" time stamped on each video a cheat sheet. It gives information about which talents to focus on and it's something you can follow.
      I might make it into an imgur album instead, which should be easier to use than skipping through the video.

    Hi, noob here with a question - at 26:30 I see that you have Thick Skin maxxed, but I also see that your Constitution is only at 13 (8), but even level 2 Thick Skin requires a minimum of 23 Con. I'm assuming I'm completely overlooking something here, but how is it that you're meeting the Con requirement in order to keep leveling it? Especially since your video says to level it up ASAP, but based on what your CON is, I'm assuming I shouldn't be dumping stat points into CON.
    Thanks in advance, and great videos!

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Thanks, I'm glad it's useful.
      The way to do this, is to save up gear, that increases your CON, then put it all on together, which will let you put points into Thick Skin.
      After you close the level up window, you can put your normal gear back on and let CON drop below the requirements. You'll keep Thick Skin and it will continue giving you the all resistance.
      It works like this for every talent in the game.
      Gear swapping is also frequently used for prodigies. If it requires 50 in a stat you don't have, you just save up +stat gear to take the prodigy and then keep it forever.

    Quick note, at 18 minutes when you're talking about stats, you say "get strength since you need phys power to apply your called shot debuffs", however, accuracy is used as the apply power for those talents, not phys power.

    Lately I was thinking of an ogre skirmisher with 6 inscriptions. But right, shalore seems better anyway, and also the speed bonus is powerful even from the start.
    I expect tinkers would be really powerful, like always.
    Maybe the thing to say about traps is that it's nice to set something up before a fight, but often it isn't necessary.
    I hear good things about "never stop running" on a berserker, maybe also some interesting synergy with this class. But it does cut into the typical damage/defense talents and the utility is already covered by some skills like tumble.
    Lately I like using a blink rune if I can find a decent one early, it's kind of like a mini ethereal form defensively.

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před rokem

      There are definitely a lot of great options for inscriptions, a lot of people love Stormshield runes or run the Blink rune with gear modifiers (Voidstalker's on cloak), that increase all resist when you teleport.
      The Acid wave rune is also pretty damn good especially early, instant speed Disarm is no joke.

    I'd like you to talk about Cursed. Very fun class.
    Also if you are looking for a really fun way to play it, attempt a cormac Cursed going for adept prodigy and putting all your category points, yes all of them, into the cursed tree to get the highest possible level of your cursed items.
    Fun is to be had.

    I can't even believe it. Truth be told I have not played skirmisher very often, but I always died miserably. I will 100% try again with your advice.
    Edit: I have the opposite issue from most people it seems. Full DPS investments come naturally to me and I have issues reminding myself that defenses are a thing. Hence decade of dying in this game. I have never beaten insane, though I have tried every few months for the last 4 years.

      When I was new I saw all the pretty numbers on robes(this was before they were buffed). Someone told me to wear heavy armor and to focus more on defensive stats and I finally started beating tier 2 dungeons.

  • @donilock1930
    @donilock1930 Před rokem +1

    Another great video!
    I agree that Skirmisher is definitely a very strong class. However, that's also what makes it one of my least favourites. On one hand, when you play it, you can become nigh-invulnerable pretty quickly and the game becomes a snorefest (especially with how simple your gameplay is); on the other hand, it can be incredibly annoying to fight against enemy Skirmishers, especially when you are a weapon class (Cursed-Skirmishers with Repel are fckin bastards). Moreover, it sort of occupies the same niche as Sling Archer, and, with Archer being a more fun class to play IMO, Skirmisher just seems kind of out of place. Though, again, I can agree that for new struggling players it can be a good choice.
    On an unrelated note, I don't remember if it has ever been mentioned in your videos, but you should really be careful with undead egos one lamps/belts. Since they make you undead, they "deactivate" your Blood of Life while you wear them, making you unable to resurrect. Keep that in mind while using them to not end up wasting your extra life.

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před rokem

      Interesting, I had no idea about that blood of life interaction.

  • @Drybe
    @Drybe  Před rokem +3

    The Skirmisher Unlock can be done on any difficulty. A Movement Infusion might be necessary to create distance, if you can't find ranged enemies.
    One topic I forgot to mention, why robes over light armour?
    You can use either through out the game, it just depends what items you find, but later on it's a lot easier to find/craft good robes, since they always have tons of resistances and even good offensive stats. For Antimagic Skirmisher light armour would probably be better, since a lot of the physical modifiers on robes are arcane, so Antimagic characters can't wear them.
    These are the possible modifiers for comparison: te4.org/wiki/Armor_Egos vs te4.org/wiki/Robe_Egos

    How reliably do you get through Insane Roguelike with this? This build breezed through Nightmare so I'm trying it with your insane survival guide but I've got like a dozen failed insane/roguelike runs now, wondering if that's par for the course or if I just need to get good, or maybe should unlock/learn a better class. The difficulty spike at Tier 2 is just nuts. One thing I think I needed addressed here is +Dex/+Cun gear. Is there an amount of Dex/Cun equivalent to +%Physical Damage?

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It is definitely expected to die many times, when changing to Insane, it is a whole new game compared to Nightmare.
      If you are consistently getting to T2s, you're doing really good and it's the last massive difficulty jump.
      I consider Skirmisher one of the best and most consistent classes. But I think it's best to play whatever sounds the most fun to you. Each new class you try makes you better at every other class, since you'll learn what to expect.
      For the gear question, I'm still often unsure myself, which item will give more damage, so it's best to always check the tooltip on of one of your talents before and after to see the difference. Generally you will rarely find enough +stats to outperform +%phys though.
      I'll record myself going through T2s on my next character.

  • @per_vognsen
    @per_vognsen Před 6 měsíci

    Thanks for all the videos. If you take Ethereal Form at level 25, how do you meet the 50 magic requirement? You have 12 magic at level 20 in your leveling template. It doesn't seem realistic (or even possible) to depend solely on saving +magic gear without also investing all your level-up stat points into magic from around level 15 to level 25 and maybe also get one or more +5 magic from quest rewards.
    I started playing the game a few days ago and was following your guide. I only noticed the 50 magic requirement around level 15 and I barely made the requirement in time for level 25 only by foregoing several sun paladin escort rewards for the +5 magic rewards and putting all my level-up stat points from 15 to 25 into magic while also hoarding +magic gear. I'm just curious what you did in your actual run. Am I missing something obvious?

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for pointing this out.
      The likely problem is, that you get a lot less high rarity gear (less rare/unique enemies) on Normal/Nightmare difficulty, so it will take longer to find those specific item modifiers.
      Saving gear with +Stat is a common strategy in ToME for prodigies and specific talents like Thick Skin and it honestly didn't occur to me until right now, that these timings are likely very different depending on the difficulty. On Insane with average luck you will have 50 in a stat purely from gear at around lvl 25 (although you might have to check through all the shops).
      I'll make sure to mention this in the future.
      On the bright side, it's impressive that you managed to adapt to it and the +5 Magic from escorts will become useful, once you get to Arcane Might prodigy.

    • @per_vognsen
      @per_vognsen Před 6 měsíci

      @@Drybe Thanks, that makes sense. I did another run and got a lot better +mag drops this time and between saved gear, +5 mag from quests and level-up stats I could have met the 50 mag requirement at level 17. This time around I saved both +str gear early game to get the point in heavy armor training and then also hoarded some extra +dex and +cun gear to make sure I could still meet my talent requirements even after diverting some points into mag. Incidentally, I found the inventory tagging system helpful for tagging +stat gear. Anyway, a lot smoother this time around! I also noticed the extra points in mag gave a bit of extra physical resist via spellpower with Chant of the Fortress, so that's a decent consolation prize before I get Arcane Might.

  • @ShinThanatos
    @ShinThanatos Před 8 měsíci

    Dumb question how do u take Etheral form at lv 24 as first prodigy if u dont reach 50 magic (cause u have to put points in dex/cun)

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před 8 měsíci +1

      It's a perfectly logical question, I should've mentioned it. You need to save up gear that gives you +Magic.
      I personally only keep items that give at least +3, otherwise it gets tedious.
      Once you have enough to reach 50 Magic, you put it all on, take the prodigy and then you can equip back your normal gear and drop below 50 Magic. The prodigy will keep working.
      Sometimes you get unlucky and won't have enough of a stat at lvl25, so it's a good idea to also check shops.
      It's also useful to save up +CON gear to get Thick Skin - the talent that gives you all resistance, on the majority of characters.

  • @brickfayz4731
    @brickfayz4731 Před rokem

    How were you able to reach thick skin level 5 without the required points in CON? Did you do it through equipment?

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před rokem +1

      Yes, on most characters I save CON gear for Thick Skin.
      You only need it to be able to put points into it and then you can go back to wearing your usual gear, Thick Skin will still work.

    Was skirmisher reworked at some point?

    • @depot-lb8hl
      @depot-lb8hl Před rokem +3

      I think it's one of the newer classes. For example, shadowblade is one of the old ones, and it just feels to me like it has less love. For example, many 1.0 mastery skill cats are copied from archmage or rogue into it with only a couple unique shadowblade categories. Meanwhile, skirmisher has many of its own trees at 1.3, even though it could've taken archer ones. I think even archer had some changes recently, or reaver has a new rot unlockable. Anyway, yes, I think skirmisher is one of the classes with much love.
      Not that shadowblade is in a terrible place, it just seems like there's just one right way to build it and it needs some care and patience to stay alive.

    • @Drybe
      @Drybe  Před rokem +1

      Yes, I think between 1.5.3 and 1.7 a lot of the talents changed. Pace Yourself for example used to apparently reduce your global speed to just reduce fatigue lol
