  • December 11, 2012 Kilauea Volcano Lava flow from Pu'u 'O'o entering the water 7 miles down the Pali. The lava started entering the Pacific Ocean again on November 24th 2012 at about 1pm the same day and time we landed on Kauai.
On Dec 10 I flew over to the Big Island and drove over to Kaimu Beach Park where I hiked out to the newly formed Ocean Entry sight about 4 miles west. I used the harder to follow Ocean side trail to stay off the private land just north of this path that the local tour groups use. I stayed on or near the new hot lava until Dec 12 then flew back over to Kauai to join my wife until our departure for Houston on 12-16-12.

Anyone know what the temperature of the ocean hitting that lava is?

I believe the ocean water is around 83 degrees and the lava is 1500 or so
