Swimming with a dozen Whale Sharks in Oslob on Cebu Island Philippines 12-5-17
Swimming with a dozen Whale Sharks in Oslob on Cebu Island Philippines is a unique experience that is hard to equal anywhere in the world. With so many whale sharks in such a small area it is difficult not to touch or should I say get touched by the huge fish. Close encounters are inevitable and very welcomed by the swimmer but not healthy for the whale shark. The downside to this outing is that they feed the whale sharks at Oslob which disrupts their natural migration. This impacts not only the whale sharks but the whole ecological balance that would occur if the feedings did not happen here.
As is often true in the world what benefits man isn't always good for the earth as a whole, this time I was selfish and enjoyed the close encounters very much.
While on a recent holiday in the Philippines I bought a ticket on the fast ferry at Sibulan Ferry Terminal near Dumaguete on Negros Island and made the 25 -30 minute crossing over to Cebu Island. At this point we caught the bus towards Cebu City getting off at Brumini Resort where a room with a great view of the ocean was only 3000 pesos or ($59.46 usd) which only took about 15 minutes. The ticket for the bus was 30 pesos (60 cents usd). The cost to enjoy the Philippines blows me away at every turn so I'm going to give the cost of every activity I did on this outing. Dinner which included a delicious Calamari appetizer, fish and chicken dinners and a couple of cokes totaled 640 pesos ($12.68) all served in a private ocean front dining cabana. The whale watching with transportation to and from the Oslob Whale Shark Watching Briefing Area was 1100 pesos ($21.80 usd). Go enjoy a cheap holiday.
