Great to see you saved it from the trash. It will certainly be useful for someone who can't afford buying a brand new engine.
We're entering a new era where we must make things last as much as we reasonably can.
Thumbs up!
Making things last has always been the case or else you've been a fool.
Great Video. I would like to see these regularly, Especailly since I got a 4, 9.9 and 15 in the garage that I need to get up an running.
I've had an 18 HP Johnson on the shelf in my warehouse for over a year now that I got from my grandfather that I'm going to do this with one day and put on a little jon boat or something so I can have fun inshore when it's too rough offshore.
i have a merc 7.5, mercury 18xd, merc 135, and seagull silver century that were engines pulled from the bottom of the lake. they all run great now.
Excellent video, and it was very educational and enjoyable to watch! thank you! Please go out there and grab another one of those outboards and get it running, because we small outboard motor owners could learn a lot to help keep ours running if you'll do another one and yet another one. Please!
Would love to see more! And more in-depth repairs like pulling out those broken bolts.
Sometimes it’s a simple fix, and sometimes there’s a reason it’s free lol.
Enjoying your new efforts to expand on the presentation of the videos. Good work, just need more videos =).
More to come! :)
Love these will it run videos. Enjoy the troubleshooting part. Thanks!
Never ceases to amaze me how much (money, time, sweat, blood, tears, etc.) "free" stuff costs!
After all this time it’s nice too actually see you in the videos… you were just a voice for so long.
Ever hear of a flexhone? Saves time. Doesn't remove metal but cleans surface.
i really enjoy the video !
hope there gonna more boat project videos
Ur a genius. I'm still trying to fix my mercury. Definitely need experience with these
I love using that BRP blue grease on most things. I've never seen it in a plastic container like that before.
Very entertaining and educational keep up the amazing job you guys are doing!!!!
Thanks so much!
I really hope you do these sort of videos more often! Great video
Really enjoyed the vids. Would not mind seeing more old motors refurbished. Many thanks.
Great job on the little out board.
Hey man im a marine tech in Tennessee. Originally from Florida but moved up here a couple years ago. I love your videos and i would appreciate it if you let me ask you some questions. This is the only shop iv worked at and i would like to speak to another tech especially from Florida and see how different things are. Thanks!
Great job love to see those videos
Great mechanic cut from the cloth of the old school mechanics/machinist of the old days. Many of the new mechanics are one trick service manual guys with a throw new parts at it mentality. For that matter we as a society are too disposal minded and want to just buy new ones.
Best Video you have made yet !!!!
That was really cool. Thanks!
I wonder if you guys ever used Marvel Mystery oil .. We use it up north and its amazing ...And that's exactly why Marvel is so awesome ..your rings pistons even cylinder bores will come back pretty nice but not if water or sea water has started to do its thing ,,,Im really kind of shocked you don't have an Ultrasonic cleaner especially around sea water you drop stuck solid parts in and the next morning they work perfect and clean as hell..
Showing some nice skills there man! Refurbishing old parts vs putting on new takes some know-how.
Pretty cool !
Nice to see a “mechanic” working instead of a “parts-changer.”
Nicely done.
Loved your video.
brilliant 👏 love your voice btw.
Excellent. Love the alt format as compared to your other body of work. Both are great though.
I've got a 5.5 seahorse that needs some love. 'Hope to see you dive into one of those.
Super nice work
Great job bro.oh by the way what is the asking price for the Mercury 135... and is it long or short shaft..
Love it!
That's a 1,800 craigslist motor now
Went straight ti the Yamaha...smart
I've been looking for one in for awhile I was seeing if I could come get it today
They are tough motors, some of the toughest Yamaha made. That one sure has not seen an easy life. If you decide to part it out though I could use the rotor.
Good stuff!
Hey bruh, for us “visual learners” would you consider a video regarding the newer Mercury 75, 90 and 115hp spark plug change? Specifically the removal of the number-4 plug, which is the most difficult to remove and re-install…🤬 P.S. Love-your-videos… 🛥🔧
here in costa rica those motors are still brand new.
Nice! I have to wonder WTH someone did to that outboard though. Just neglect or was it submerged?
Be sure and tell new owner 2 of 4 WP bolts are broken off in the gearcase.
Wow. That thing looks like it has less than 40 hours on it. Prop and lower unit still look new-ish.
Bet it had a lot of idling time. 👍🏻
I think someone just keep it clean on the outside thinking they where doing a good thing but what they really where doing is taking the grease away and causing all or at lest most of the problems. The motor needs that grease and most people don't know how or where to grease it. I have got a few outbound motors like that. I had a 15cc Yamaha in keywest for $100 that was very clean but didn't run and fixed it for a little time and some grease and cleaning the carb. It ran very well for years. It probably still running but hurricane Irma took it and my dingy away.
I need a video on Twin engines the difference between regular rotation and counter rotation
Nice - thanks ! !
🙂😎👍
No problem 👍
This motor would be perfect for a Jon boat!
Did you replace the 2 broken bolts on the water pump housing?
Great video! Free huh?! Is there a free or maybe cheap lower unit particularly in the 300 to 425hp range??? Working on a project and can't seem to find one where I'm at...
Just wondering!!!
I have the same exact motor, I need a top cowling for it. Know where I can find one?
So did you replace the impeller housings bolts ? Does that 9.5 turtle top run ? I can’t keep them in stock , I get one rebuilt and bam it’s sold ! Little ones heck that’s all I work on from 1913 to 1983 , 3/4hp to 25hp OMC’s mainly and Martins and Elgens .
Great channel 👏 watching from Ireland 🍺🍺🇮🇪
Thanks 👍
Hey , do you recommend any books that help learn to work on outboards , thanks
Good save. Say, I’ll give you a 10hp Merc Bigfoot if you want to fix it. Fell off a buddy’s sailboat in freshwater. I’m in central Fl. Or I can meet you at my Dads in Islamorada if I can get down.
How in the heck to your remember where everything goes!
I would’ve liked to have seen you replace those broken bolts.
ok nice i need to buy 2 let you do sum work on it bro
Saludo tengo motor mercury 8Hp 2cly le e puesto el kit de carburador 2 véase y sigue con fallos le e echo de todo con el carburador. Le pongo otro y trabaja muy bien. Que puede ser
I’ll take the optipop next to the 25hp merc
Heat is the medicine
I need a reliable outboard engine for my old boat it have a 90 jonhson in it , year 82
Do guys work out of Marathon or Taveneer ?
Hello I’m thinking about getting a 20’ pontoon boat with a 1988 tohatsu 30 on it I’m no mechanic but can do carb cleaning and small things is that a good motor is it dependable or is it like a force no one wants them thanks for the videos and advice
From my buddy who has one you can’t kill them.
@@huntm7592 thanks man
Got a 1989 M70 a2 Tohatsu which is pretty much the same as your 30 Hp. Just had to change out the CDI ignition with a generic replacement but beside that it has been dependable.
Hello
Omc grease on a Yamaha! come on man!lol
Why wouldn't you have dropped the gearcase? You spark & comp!!!
i just got a 2018 suzuki 9.9 for $180. runs perfectly but the only problem is that the power trim dosent collapse 100% down, id say like 90% it does. freaking hell of a deal. Electric start is nice to have to. any tips on what could be a possible culprit with that power trim and tilt?
It's goes 90 percent down?
@@dive2deepocean115 yes
Check the manual release tilt it all the way up then crack the screw the manual release all the way down also check to make sure there no trim bar some times Infront of the power trim and tilt
Yeah check the manual release and make sure the screw is tight.
I get the economics of paying you to do this but hate throwing perfectly good stuff away. I grew up repairing mowers, tv’s, vcr’s, and the like and we are now in a throw away society. Aside from the environment mess it causes it’s better to find a new home and loved that you saved this!
Next!!😅
Straighten the shaft.
I just got a free 15 hp force !
Well if you ever throwing outboards out, let us know so we can at least take them off your hands 😀
How about something on electric boat motors ?
Yuck!
I have a 20ft potoon I am up grading looked at the eco but don't know any thing about them just what the best motor I can get for it?
@@michaelreynolds1904 I guess you never used an electric outboard...for a dinghy they're great...quiet....dependible and never need a tune-up
@@rkstreeter don't assume what I have or haven't used.
@@michaelreynolds1904 have you?
The yamaha are so much smaller with sane horse power.
