  • I created this film to capture my experience competing in the Yukon River Quest (the longest annual canoe and kayak race in the world) in 2016, paddling 715km solo in 62 hours after experiencing equipment failure that threatened to end my race.

Always practice in a rudder boat or keel boat without 5hem in case either fail. It does take a lot more effort if you rudder is broken especially in windy or rough water.

Good work! Tough going with equipment failure. It is a awesome experience to even try it, but to finish is the greatest feeling..

Could edging the kayak help counter this malfunction?

Wow, what a monster of a trip. 0_o
I've been idly wishing for a more rain & wind resistant outer glove, maybe dishwashing gloves would be good in some circumstances. They're certainly cheap and light enough to experiment with, cheers for the idea :)

You need torso rotation and better strokes for turning and steering. Less arm movement.

Think kayaks would not be my choice of hulls. Current Designs would.

Try using a hull with one or no foot supports it's horrible.
