- What motivates someone to paddle 715km down a long, cold and very lonely river in the Canadian wilderness? And what happens to the body and mind when they do? Follow eight stand up paddlers as they attempt the longest annual paddle race in the world, the Yukon River Quest...
Far from boring, brilliant and brave in the extreme. Have 2 friends from Australia entering 2023. Will be watching with enormous interest. Thank you so much for posting this material.
In 2016 which now seems a million years ago, I paddled the YRQ in a kayak I built myself. There was so much to tell, but it was for me just after the last checkpoint at 60 mile with the home stretch ahead that I hit a gravel bar and struggled to pry myself off that damned thing. It took what was left out of me and the real hallucinations kicked in. I suddenly realized the only people still on the river behind me were the guys in the support boat urging me on to Dawson. I made the finish with a bit of time to spare, coming in dead last. But I earned every km. I had not listened to others advice and was paddling with a very heavily laden kayak. 8 years later and I am still processing the amazing events my mind, body and spirit endured under the midnight sun. On my deck bag was embroidered, 'Just Keep Paddling'. So that was what I did, That in the end was all any of us seeking the finish line could do.
Honestly one of my favorite get me hype documentaries
Great video. Deserves way more views.
Thanks for greate video. Very inspiring.
For someone with no experience in editing you did an awesome job. Love this! At the time you were out there you couldn't imagine the times we would go through now. This is very inspiring and keeps me motivated and hopeful for upcoming season. Thanks Chris for putting all the time and effort in making this very nice edit!
Thanks Geert! I hope it gives some people a little bit of entertainment and motivation while stuck in isolation ✌️
I paddled it at a much more leisurely pace. (10 days) Beautiful trip but not sure I would be up for the sleep deprived marathon. Nice job on the video.
Great film. Thanks for sharing the experience.
thanks Kirsten! ✌️

Wowzers!!!! Amazing....... great watch! With these crazy times.... I want to make the most of life! Very inspired x Thank you for sharing 🤘🏼🤩
Abso bloody incredible Chris. Seems like Trevor tracked you pretty well along the route. I'd be chasing gummy bears if I was there I think. Kudos!
Thanks! Yes, Trevor did his own race staying up all night flying the drone 😂🙈
Excellent movie Chris, thanks for putting yourself through that for our entertainment 🤙🏼definitely an experience
Very inspiring, Chris!
thanks mate!
Fantastic job Chris! Both your race and the video produced. Soooo cool …
I have now watched this three times in three days. Awesomely entertaining. You are so natural on screen and come across amazingly. And the quality of the camerawork is great!
Team cap here...I agree with all that...I’ve always said,,”you can’t train for torture “. But a person can mentally prepare and give some back
Hey Chris...EPIC movie, mate. Thanks for that. Hoping to meet you in June for my 1st Quest, but I think it's gonna be touch and go from here in New Zealand. Who knows what the world is gonna be like by then. Take care, keep recording.
cheers Graeme! Bummer about this year but I hope you deferred your entry to 2021. You won't regret it. See you up there next year!
Wow, super inspiring and motivating and really well edited and produced too. It's an excellent insight into this incredible experience. Thank you! It's inspiring me to get back out on the water and do some more sup adventures.
Thank you for documenting your Yukon River experience. It is a true manual for me, that I want to do this race ... I still have many doubts about how to get to such a remote place with a 14-foot Racer ... and a lot more doubts ... but I am organizing to register for the Yukon River ... honestly the first time I saw your documentary, I was afraid to take this test ... I have already seen at least a dozen, to convince myself that it is possible ... congratulations and all my respect for such a journey. .. I was in Sup 11 City Tour in 2019 ... you ran in Non Stop ... you are crazy ... and I also want to be one of these crazy men ¡¡¡
Well done!
I love this. I want to race 2022 and just watching for some ideas. How do you look back at this now and would you ever do it again?
cheers Dan! I look back at this with rose tinted glasses even though it reminds me how much I suffered. I'm heading back next year so I'll definitely be doing it again (four-man canoe team this time). I just looked at the 2022 registration page and saw you grabbed the 149th spot out of 150 teams right before it filled up, good on you! Look forward to having some sourtoe cocktails with you in Dawson
@@paddlermedia haha yes! I have my kayak pro erg set up and watch you suffer as I train for a meager hour. I can't wait for June
Great documentary Chris! Thank you for sharing your experience. Curious - who did the drone footage?
Cheers Pat! Thanks for watching. The drone hero was Trevor Tunnington (@trev_sup) who logged some serious miles sitting on the back of a freezing cold boat all night 😅
Two bad years in a row right now.
