My all time favorite floor routines are this one - Nadia at the 1976 American Cup; and Olga Korbut's floor routine from the 1972 Munich Olympics. I wasn't as crazy about Nadia's floor routine at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. It was very cute, but when compared to this one, I like this one better.
Simone is great. But she is a little bodybuilder without grace. On the other hand, Nadia looked like a ballerina with her perfect routines. Very feminine and artistic. Things that today's gymnastics has lost. Nadia is a legend and will never be another one like her.
1. she was 14 2. she wasn't on a spring mounted floor. 3. so much grace and style, just beautiful for the eye to look at 4. this is art my friends, just like a beautiful painting by picasso, or somth made by leonardo

She is the best female gymnast who ever lived when female gymnastics was unique and beautiful. The sport became dull after they tried to make female gymnastics more focused on explosive movements and tumbling like male gymnastics.
I think the best thing about this performance is that she never breaks character. If you look at a lot of the floor routines nowadays, there’s always a pause and gathering of breathe before a big tumbling run...not here. She was consistently moving and showing personality...feels like I am watching a sprite gallivanting in the woods.
What grace, lightness, and class. Its so refreshing to hear a humble and sweet music accompamiement as well, rather than the over the top stuff they play today, it accentuatred her charm.
I think her routine was supposed to be inspired by the early silent movies which had a pianist playing in the theatre so they used that type of music and you can see some amusing movements in her routine. That is what I read, years ago.
I was born in ‘73, so this was when I was 3. All through my childhood, the name Nadia Comaneci was always uttered with such reverence, that, like a child, I thought she was must be like a queen or a goddess. What a gift, as an adult, to be able to watch these routines that captivated the world and made her every girl’s hero. ❤
Simone Biles can do all that power tumbling and amazing it is but she will never float like this. Tiny Nadia.... she's like a fairy, magical...an artist
Biles is tumbling on heavily sprung gymnastics floors, Nadia is tumbling on a piece of carpet on a hard floor with no springs. What Nadia does given the equipment is actually more difficult
Foolishness, Simone would kill this routine and it would way more floaty because her power and amplitude would be put into these very basic moves and she would fly. Given an opportunity to replicate this routine and be judged y'all would find out!
And what was so fantastic during this time in gymnastics was they were doing it on a flat surface with you spring boards underneath the floor! And they always put strength moves in and it was more graceful! I miss this!

I was obsessed with Nadia Comaneci as a child. I had the album with her theme song, a book about her, watched her special hosted by Flip Wilson, and even fashioned a homemade Nadia doll and was so angry the commentators at the Olympics couldn't pronounce her name correctly. I began doing gymnastics in my front yard and taught myself front handsprings, back semis, aerial cartwheels, one-legged back walkovers on a balance beam made from a 4 x 4 board. I was 11 years old and 78 lbs.; exactly the same as my best friend. Then, over the summer, I had a huge growth spurt, and although I remained very lean and muscular, in 3 months, I weight 106 lbs. I had grown to my full height of 5'6". I only weighed 4 more pounds at age 25 which tells you how much I had changed. My boyish body grew hips and was way too tall to do many of those moves I learned. It broke my heart ... until I heard Ann Wilson singing "Crazy on You" on a hot rod's radio while doing walkovers in the front yard. I saved up my allowance and rode my bike to the local electric guitar shop. I became a professional musician for many years and had one of Ann's guitarists in one of my first bands as a young girl. But, I never forgot about that determined little girl who never smiled. She was a bada**.

Dark Universe it was. Olga Korbut is a friend of mine. She says it was a hard floor, but she would still dive into the air and land into a chest roll. Check our her routine from 1972!
@@rockstar46able I'm a former Elite gymnast & I've performed on every surface imaginable at one time or another. My body hurts. Difficulty has come a long way since 72. Or 76. Or the 80's or 90's. In fact, it's about nothing BUT difficulty now in the scoring. Check out Simone Biles on the floor doing the Biles defying physics. There's a video on her defying physics. She does a triple back with 2 1/2 twists (I think). Mary lou in 84 Olympics did a double back. (2 rotations). A triple back was thought to be impossible. Also, men are usually the 1st to perform new skills on floor, etc but not anymore. She doesn't have a long way to run to gain momentum to get the height to do that many rotations & twists in one move. Unbelievable. Love Olga! A little before my time. I love her bar routine, even though it's simple, the originality & style is exceptional! Definitely a groundbreaking gymnast, I saw the move you're referring to, it's pretty easy(by 10 I could do it) , but original like everything she did! !♥️♥️☮☮czcams.com/video/9HO0zsigh30/video.html

I fell in love with gymnastics when I first saw the Nadia movie years ago, I love that I can see it again here. After watching this, I cannot believe camera flashes were allowed during performance and It still didn't distract Nadia from being the best. Amazing.
I do not mean to disparage our current gymnastic superstars but there is something so ethereal and lithe about their movements - Nadia Comăneci and Olga Korbut, decades ago. Perhaps because both of them appeared as pixies both being under 100 lbs. But Nadia Comăneci certainly shows a lot of artistry with her more subtle movements.
My wife is Romanian and she taught me all about the communist regime and the orphanages that still exist. I've sponsored several orphans for a long time now
Just watched the Women's Gymnastics in the Olympics in Brazil and whilst it is the best Women's competition I have seen for a while and Simone Giles from the USA is lovely to watch, there is still no comparison. There'll never be another Nadia!
they have a different style. nadia had simpler tricks but she was totally full of grace and light as a feather, simone can do not-human tricks and has got a strong lively style. both great anyway!
2 diametrically opposed styles, Simone is pure power, speed, perfection and no emotion nor feminism at all on the other hand Nadia is pure grace, artistry and poetry in motion!.Simone pose, walk and running is very masculine like and mechanical while Nadia's walk is feminine, sensual and delicate like a rose!.I might not know much about gymnastics but I know artistry and grace when I see it, that's what I see when I watch Nadia perform!!!!
This is amazing. Gymnastics today is just not the same. Nadia is so elegant, my jaw just drops every time I watch this. Todays gymnastics is all about difficulty and athleticism, nowhere near as graceful and pretty as this. This is pure beauty.
Still my favorite. I have a daughter who is a college gymnast and I have been watching a LOT of gymnastics, and coaching, for a long time( about 45 years). I have watched every significant senior gymnast and hundreds of college gymnasts and thousands of JO kids. When I go back and watch Nadia, she STILL amazes me. I've never seen a gymnast with better body position, technique or execution. Flawless. Today's competitors do harder skills, but much of that is a function of the equipment( sprung floors, padded and sprung beams, pads everywhere, huge vault table, etc.). Nadia's difficulty, even with the significantly harder and more dangerous equip of old, is very comparable to today's college girls, only executed even better, 45!years later!. If she had today's beams, it's hard to imagine what she'd be doing, and what she could do on a trampoline-like floor of today and bars that allow giants, mind boggling. She'd certainly have as much or more difficulty than anyone on bars( Suni lee with better lines and execution) and beam ( think Shawn Johnson on beam with more grace, etc.) anyone but Simone on floor( and she'd be close). She'd be in the mix in vault. Moreover, her lines, body position and flawless execution would make her prohibitive favorite on bars and beam, head to head with Simone on floor( probably slightly lower start value and likely higher execution) and in the mix for a medal on vault. That would bode very well for her in AA.
I was just watching The professional gymnast on TV about 5 minutes ago competing for different titles, they were so stiff they were so bad I immediately went to CZcams and watched Nadia because nobody's like her , nobody will be like Nadia..... 🌹
As a Romanian from the same town, you hear a lot about Nadia and her achievements. I have to confess, for a while I was thinking 'here they go again, clinging onto some sports achievements from ages ago cause we don't have much at present', but when i started looking into her performances, i do feel something special. I love how musical this interpretation is, with gestures exactly on the right note, very playful choreography and this feeling of ease and smoothness. Right up my alley for disciplines that are halfway between sport and interpretative art. I see the same type of musicality and feel for the discipline as with Yuzuru Hanyu in ice skating for example, even though they are decades apart and covered different disciplines (and ofc different standards of difficulty)
*WOW ! INCREDIBLE! 😍❤ The world first saw a "PERFECT 10" and then the "snow slide" come it at the Olympics 1976 in Montreal with SEVEN TIMES A "PERFECT 10". SHE was at American Cup and she maked easy, very playful, graceful then not tired at all. SHE was 14 years old and in a perfect form !😀*
I know nothing about gymnastics, but this was much more entertaining to watch than what I've seen recently. She moves so effortlessly and seems to float in the air. She had charm and personality too.
I met Nadia and Bart Conner in 2000 ish. I told them my sister was crying on the phone after I told her they were there (at my office) and was 35 years old. Bart said "get her on the phone." My sister talked to Nadia for five minutes in the green room at Oxygen. Mostly my sister talked and Nadia was "a good sport" literally. One of the best moments ever. We both grew up watching them on Wide World of Sports. The thrill of success... and the agony of defeat...
*One of the best Gymnastics.* *Perfect 10 well deserved* *Natural and beautiful stile.* *Personality and elegance.* *High, balance and brilliant routines*

Nobody is as good as Nadia nobody ever will be as good as Nadia the thing is she's a true dancer she knows how to move her body when she goes across the floor and then lands she's in the "correct stance to stop a fall or a sway." ❤️
Nope. She has historical value because she influenced and revolutionized women's gymnastics. But she's not best, she could never compete against today's gymnasts. She wouldn't make it to top 50, but she does have her important place in history.
NADIA bola charizmatická, veľmi talentovaná a vynikajúca v tvrdej svetovej konkurencii. Pred rozdelením Československa som niekoľko rokov sledovala všetky dostupné gymnastické športové prenosy 😍NADIA was charismatic, very talented and excellent in tough world-class competition. Before the division of Czechoslovakia, I watched all available gymnastic sports broadcasts for several years...
I love watching performances by gymnasts of this era. They were disciplined, talented, and beautiful. The gymnasts of today can't hold a candle to them.
Those who say this routine was easy or if she was practicing now she would not get any medal and blah blah, they don't know anything about gymnastics code of points, rules of gymnastic or even history of gymnastic. They are biased and jealous!
Actually, I think that Nadia(if she was born in this time) would master today's skills as well. Grace would most likely be at least 40% less, but she'd still be amazing.
@@LVSH-pr8jd well it was the same for everyone, in the past and present for the people doing it is hard..we cannot compare..And if it was easier back then, do u think the girls these days could even get to her level of grace and precision on the landings and flips
Yea, those spring mounted floors make a huge difference today. Let the female gymnasts try their skills on a floor uses back in 1976 or 1972. Is like to see that or a female gymnast perform the Korbut flip today but they banned it because it’s too dangerous .
Her unique style and grace was unparalleled. They don’t make em like that anymore. Now it’s about power and how many combinations you can include in a pass.
Agreed. This didn't have the technical difficulty that you see in today's floor exercises, but she had the total package because her moves flowed well and were better choreographed than what you see today, and she had great lines. Plus, her tumbling passes were clean. Back then, the mats were not springy like they are now, so she didn't get great height or power in her tumbling, but this is more enjoyable to watch than most of the floor routines you see today.
Amazing. Back when you actually had to dance and show some choreography matching the music. Every part of that was so charming and watchable. It wasn’t just a build up to her terrific tumbling. It was a complete program. Awesome
I adore how she just seems to float throughout her routine, it's so cute.

There was no trampoline omg the floor must've been so hard when landing
Dark Universe it hurts. Especially after we got older.
Dark Universe it was. Olga Korbut is a friend of mine. She says it was a hard floor, but she would still dive into the air and land into a chest roll. Check our her routine from 1972!
@@rockstar46able
I'm a former Elite gymnast & I've performed on every surface imaginable at one time or another.
@@rockstar46able That hurts the back & neck. I used to have bruises down my spine from doing those, back extensions, etc But not on the mat. On basketball courts at halftime shows. ♥️♥️☮☮
It's not a trampoline quite yet, lol, her difficulty is pretty simple.
THE REAL G.O.A.T. HERE PEOPLE! NADIA!
Absolutely.
One of the Greatest female gymnast ever
😊
I fell in love with gymnastics when I first saw the Nadia movie years ago, I love that I can see it again here. After watching this, I cannot believe camera flashes were allowed during performance and It still didn't distract Nadia from being the best. Amazing.
The greatest to ever do it!NADIA COMANECI!
Elegance,grace,poise,acrobatics,focus,determination-Perfection!
Yes,well stated!
2020 and can't get over it!!!!!!!
Nadia Comaneci THE BEST OF THE ALL TIME.
This is Nadia, romanian girl, I am proud of her!!!!
So am I and I'm not even Romanian.
There'll never be another Nadia!
simon bale
+LALO UC Simone biles
they have a different style. nadia had simpler tricks but she was totally full of grace and light as a feather, simone can do not-human tricks and has got a strong lively style. both great anyway!
Simone is by far, the Best.
well, that's an opinion. i don't think so.
45 years ago the best ever or ever will be....
She’s got the moves!
Greetings 🫖☕ Nadia was my inspiration as a little girl, watching the Olympics was an inspiration......🤺💞🌹
Bloody stunning. How someone so young could achieve such a standard in gymnastics is beyond me. I have not yet seen anyone to be her equal. 💗
Exactly
I agree! A one-of-a kind!
LOL Biles is much better. Suni Lee is better. A lot of gymnasts today are better. Time marches on.
*PERFECT 10 ! 💎*
She is impeccable. No spring floors back then and she had suck great height. So graceful as well!
Her very first ten.
*WOW ! INCREDIBLE! 😍❤ The world first saw a "PERFECT 10" and then the "snow slide" come it at the Olympics 1976 in Montreal with SEVEN TIMES A "PERFECT 10". SHE was at American Cup and she maked easy, very playful, graceful then not tired at all. SHE was 14 years old and in a perfect form !😀*
elegance, class, charisma and makes it look effortless 😮.A legend indeed.
I know nothing about gymnastics, but this was much more entertaining to watch than what I've seen recently. She moves so effortlessly and seems to float in the air. She had charm and personality too.
As I watched her live on ABC as a child, I was inspired to work hard! Kudos Nadia!!
I was 17 when she became champion at Montreal and I fell head over heels in love with her.
Exquisite figure and very balletic. I personally think Nadia was more graceful than the gymnasts of today.
Her routine is so beautiful😍It is a joy to watch this
I watched her as a kid myself and still, to this day, she is incomparable!
Agree.
0:59 that photographer is a legend
teeemooo
Jajajjaj real
Im dead 😂😂😂
Yooo
I met Nadia and Bart Conner in 2000 ish. I told them my sister was crying on the phone after I told her they were there (at my office) and was 35 years old. Bart said "get her on the phone." My sister talked to Nadia for five minutes in the green room at Oxygen. Mostly my sister talked and Nadia was "a good sport" literally. One of the best moments ever. We both grew up watching them on Wide World of Sports. The thrill of success... and the agony of defeat...
I wish I could have watched this but I wasn’t born yet in 76. Great performance
Greatest of all time. The gymnasts today and just large tumblers.
*One of the best Gymnastics.* *Perfect 10 well deserved*
*Natural and beautiful stile.*
*Personality and elegance.*
*High, balance and brilliant routines*
Amazing routine. She is the best of all time.
Nope. She has historical value because she influenced and revolutionized women's gymnastics. But she's not best, she could never compete against today's gymnasts. She wouldn't make it to top 50, but she does have her important place in history.
OMG!!!!!!! Just beautiful
PERFECTION IS.POSSIBLE♥
i agree
+TinyDancer#the Best i agree as well
comparing to todays standards where some macho athletes with no smoothess are jumping high she is more than 10...
I definitely agree with you. Nowadays they have no grace and elegance.
TinyDancer#the Best she wouldn't be perfect at all by today's standards
Quite simply-The G.O.A.T.!
Yes!
Nobody is as good as Nadia nobody ever will be as good as Nadia the thing is she's a true dancer she knows how to move her body when she goes across the floor and then lands she's in the "correct stance to stop a fall or a sway." ❤️
Her routine wouldn't win a junior elite competition today. It's simply false that nobody is as good. Time marches on.
I love her too.💗💘❤🔟
Nadia was and is and always be the best of the best. !!!!
GOAT
The Finest 🌟✨
She is so elegant
I love watching performances by gymnasts of this era. They were disciplined, talented, and beautiful. The gymnasts of today can't hold a candle to them.
The abuse Nadia suffered has finally been condemned. That abuse still continues in some countries
Bravo , Nadia Comăneci , România 🇹🇩🇹🇩🇹🇩 , Europa 🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
She will forever remain one of my absolute faves
Надя Команечи Звезда спортивной гимнастики..браво..!
They had a different floor back then too wasn't spring mounted like it is today. The spring mount floor makes it easier
Yea, those spring mounted floors make a huge difference today. Let the female gymnasts try their skills on a floor uses back in 1976 or 1972. Is like to see that or a female gymnast perform the Korbut flip today but they banned it because it’s too dangerous .
I saw her achieve this in 76. She was, and still is an inspiration. Amazing! so much talent|
She is hipnotic
Memories!
The best ever!
Her unique style and grace was unparalleled. They don’t make em like that anymore. Now it’s about power and how many combinations you can include in a pass.
Yes,and not entertaining at all.It was so much better back then.
Also watch Daniela Silivas floor exercises, she is amazing - and VERY Nadia-like!!!
Nadia Comaneci the perfect gymnastic.. She's perfect!!..
Love watching Nadia more than any other gymnast.Perfection
She's just..perfect! I wish gymnasts today looked more like this.
Amazing. Back when you actually had to dance and show some choreography matching the music. Every part of that was so charming and watchable. It wasn’t just a build up to her terrific tumbling. It was a complete program. Awesome
And she created history.
How times have changed 🙂❤
