    So many women think that ‘if I just lost weight,’ or ‘if I got rid of my cellulite’ my life would be so much better and I’d be so confident! But as you guys can see in this video, even VICTORIAS SECRET SUPERMODELS are insecure, which leads to a lot of them allegedly photoshopping what they look like, for their Instagram pictures. There are so many instances of famous and successful models making their bellies smaller, the waists narrower, their legs thinner and their jaws sharper FOR INSTAGRAM! These woman are already generally regarded world wide as being the 'epitome of beauty' - so why on earth do they feel the need to edit what they look like for Instagram? Our beauty standards are out of control!

    Photo editing has been around for as long as photography has been around. In the 1880s there were literally books about manually retouching photos to make the skin smoother and waist smaller. Photographs were always intended as an ‘idealised’ representation of reality.
    I think we need to shift our expectations. Instead of expecting photos to be unedited, just assume that every photo you see on social media is manipulated in some way or another. This will save you hours of unwarranted self-bashing.

    • @CyewWayne
      @CyewWayne Před rokem +2

      I do think social media is different in that that there are increasingly people who spend more time online than interacting with real life people. And as the algorithms become better at sucking people in to these apps, the near ubiquity of "idealized" bodies online, whether achieved by editing or not, really creates a deeper sense of dysmorphia and hatred towards people's natural bodies. You almost forget what's "normal" for people to look like. I think just seeing more unedited bodies would help a lot of people's (especially young people's) self esteem a lot

    I'm so angry right now, I don't even know what to comment. All I know is, my daughter is six next week and I really don't want her anywhere near this social media crap ever. I grew up without this shit and as young girls we had our issues with our bodies, and I still have sometimes though it gets better. But what is happening in "social" media is taking it to a new level. And it's so disgusting. 🤢
    Thanks for the vid, keep up the good work, Stephanie!

    It is so rediculous how even these women, who we are supposed to find beautiful are apparantly still not beautiful enough in the eyes of the media. I think what one can learn from that, is that we women can never ever be beautiful enough in this sick society, so one can just say f*ck you beauty standards, I'll love myself and have my own beauty standard :)

    Another great video Steph, I remember the whole Victoria's secret fashion show thing being so popular when I was a teenager and really badly comparing myself to them, I have a completely different body type, and I now realise it's okay!! We're not all built the same!
    Also, can I add that this hair colour just looks stunning on you 🤩

      I'm so thin xs but i always felt insecure bc these models had flawless cellulite. I thought i was the only one with my thighs/hips not toned like other women. No matter how much skinnier I got, worked out at gym, it just never got toned. I ate healthy no junk. I always wondered how all these ig yt look flawless in bathing suits with their butt and legs so toned. Thanks to Stephanie I learnt how Fake it all is. Everyone has cellulite. No matter how skinny or tiny you are we all have cellulite. It's normal. It finally made me feel so liberated. Now I just embrace it. Instead of trying to overwork in the gym. It's just not realistic to be flawless/ fake normal that we grow up believing that when we get older we're supposed to look flawless and toned. I didn't know how fake ig yt was until people started revealing the lighting and photoshop

    Instagram is crazy. Going through the "explore" page I see so many wasp waists, big rounded hips, booties obviously photoshopped. I look at that and I know for myself I could never compete with that. I'm married with a husband who loves my body, but imagining if I was single in the dating scene and men are looking at that and then looking at me. I'd feel so insecure. No wonder modern love is often said to be dead. I'm 30 and so glad this wasn't as big a thing when I was a teenager, I don't think I'd have survived my eating disorder.

    Thank you for posting this, Stephanie. I deeply struggle with body image, to the point that it has made me feel utterly worthless, hopeless, alone, and very depressed. I've lost weight multiple times, but life happens and just steals all my motivation away. I already feel like I am on a different planet than these women. And I'm so afraid that this is all men will ever want, that they'll only ever see me as disgusting and not even one will ever give me a chance. It has affected my hope for the future, since all I've ever wanted to be is a mom. I can't understand why someone like these ladies would do this, I could just cry and cry. Our society is so broken.
