Venus: Sound Of The Earth's Evil Twin - 4K

  • Sound you hear in the video was recorded on March 5, 1982, (07:00:10 UTC) east of Phoebe Region by the Soviet probe Venera 14.
    The lander functioned for at least 57 minutes (the planned design life was 32 minutes) in an environment with a temperature of 465 °C (869 °F) and a pressure of 94 Earth atmospheres (9.5 MPa).
    00:26 - Camera lens cap being ejected off.
    The second largest terrestrial planet, Venus is also second one from the Sun and the third brightest object in Earth's sky after the Sun and Moon. It is sometimes referred to as the sister planet to Earth, because of the similarity of their sizes and masses. Named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, Venus is also the closest planet to Earth. Both - Earth and Venus, began life with similar atmospheres, but Venus underwent a ferocious greenhouse effect that left it with a scorching surface temperature of 465C, and an atmosphere that presses down with a force 94 times our own, made up almost entirely of carbon dioxide and practically no water
    The surface of Venus is hidden by an opaque layer of clouds which are formed from sulphuric acid.
    Even with the most sophisticated protective gear humanity has to offer, you’d be dead within minutes. If you somehow manage to survive the trip to the surface, you would soon be smothered by toxic gases, crushed by the weight of Venus’ atmosphere and incinerated by the searing temperatures so high, they could easily melt lead.

      Astronomers use the term _albedo_ to describe how bright a planet is in absolute terms. When sunlight strikes a planet, some of the light is absorbed by the planet’s surface or atmosphere - and some is reflected. Albedo is a comparison between how much light strikes an object - and how much is reflected. So, Venus has the highest albedo of any major planet in our solar system - 7, meaning it reflects about 70% of the sunlight striking it.
      Venus reflects so much sunlight because it’s blanketed by highly reflective clouds. The clouds in the atmosphere of Venus contain droplets of sulfuric acid, as well as acidic crystals suspended in a mixture of gases. Light bounces easily off the smooth surfaces of these spheres and crystals.
      Sunlight bouncing from these clouds is a big part of the reason that Venus is so bright.
      Just to compare, our Moon reflects only about 10% of the light that hits it.
      However, Venus isn’t the most reflective body in our Solar system. That honor goes to Enceladus, a moon of Saturn. Its icy surface reflects some 90% of the sunlight striking it.

      @@stardustian but..i thought that the brightness of any astronomical object is measured by its apparent magnitude...not albedo..i mean..can you plz gv me the explanation of it....?

    • @brainzpvz2592
      @brainzpvz2592 Před 3 lety +2

      @@euphoricmindofsreejitadas1878 Albedo is just how much light something reflects, not a measure of brightness. It is just related to apparent magnitude because planets/objects with higher albedos will reflect more light making them appear brighter. The apparent magnitude is a measure of how bright a star/planet is from a certain distance, with the lower the number the brighter the object is. Each magnitude lower is about 2.5x brighter.

      Venus has an atmosphere. Sound can travel through other gasses the same way they would travel through oxygen in our own planet. Though Venus has a much thicker atmosphere than earth, sound waves would not travel as far. The earth is not nearly the only planet with an atmosphere.
