  • "We want Sweet! We want Sweet!" Before The Sweet became famous glamrock stars Andy Scott, Brian Connolly, Mick Tucker and Steve Priest recorded a couple of songs in the late sixties and in 1970 only a few people remember. "Questions" is one of this songs.

"Questions" isn't by "Sweet", though the lead vocal is by Brian Connolly. It is included in compilations of Sweet recordings owned by Robert Mellin Music. This includes very early Sweet recordings by Sweet featuring guitarist Frank Torpey, plus recordings that Connolly made as a session vocalist for Robert Mellin Music. Connolly would sing on recordings of songs owned by Mellin, and if somebody wanted to record their own version, they would re-use the backing track that Connolly had sung over. In fact, "Slow Motion"(the very first Sweet a-side) was from Connolly's work as a session singer. Only the B-side("It's Lonely Out There") was by Sweet. "Questions" (Written by Episode Six members Ian Gillan & Roger Glover, with Glover using his early psuedonym "Roger David") was the one and only recording by "Wainwright's Gentlemen", recorded at Jackson's Studio in Rickmansworth in 1967. "Wainwright's Gentleman" had no original songs, so it made sense that they would ask former member Ian Gillan to supply a song.

Episode Six started out doing a lot of cover songs. They toured all over, ending up in Beirut where they spent Christmas and landed three singles in the Lebanese Top 10.The band signed with American label MGM for a 3-year contract. This is when Nick Simper first asked Ian Gillan if he’d like to join Deep Purple and Gillan declined. They really felt that with this new record deal they were on the verge of making it big. Glover convinced Gillan to write lyrics and they began a songwriting collaboration. At first Gillan refused to write songs : “I ain’t no sissy….” Later Gillan/Glover were in London writing music with song companies. One song, “Questions”, was released by “The Sweet” in 1969.
