Game: Pilotwings Platform: Super Nintendo Entertainment System Developer: Nintendo Publisher: Nintendo Release Date: JP - Dec 1990 | NA - Aug 1992 | EU - 1992
Just purchased this game on the Virtual Console and damn! I can't remember it being this hard as a kid! It's really stood the test of time though, as have many SNES classics.
The first time I saw Pilotwings running on the Super Famicom - what an experience. Console Concepts in Newcastle Under Lyme in UK.. astore that specialised in imported consoles from Japan. The SFC was just so ahead of its time, having such smooth scaling and rotation on a home console - and the hang-gliding was the best example of this. So many great memories... so Japanese and tranquil and.. different.
The Super Nintendo is named being the second home console of Nintendo that released outside of Japan. In the 1980s and the early 1990s, Nintendo was new in the videogame world releasing two first consoles with "Nintendo Entertainment System" name instead of "Family Computer" or "Famicom" for short.
***** I have to be honest. I've played this game since it came out in '92 and I've NEVER played it this well. I'm positive this was a one off and I'll never play it like this again.
I played this game to death, I wasn't satisfied with less than 100.. I got the silver wings with maximum, but not the Gold, but I did try. great memories, thanks for sharing.
Reuben Ahmed While I used an emulator to play. I don't know the first thing about properly TAS-ing a run. I've played this game for many years, it's still a regular game I play. I've just never done it this well. I got VERY lucky on the helicopter missions.
+Reuben Ahmed I'll take a crack at it! Though learning a speedrun isn't particularly fun. I'll have a few goes though, see if I can work something out.
Alex Olson I finished this game 2 times. The rescue mission wasn't that hard for me but... the second round of tests with the heavy wind and snow was a very good challenge!
jesus scotty good work, im stuck on the first rescue mission, the copter just maneuvers way to slow to get out of bullets range. I've only been playing this for a day or two but i'm frustrated i can't get by this yet.
absolute travesty this game hasn't been put onto the SNES mini...should have been a shoe-in as it's a genuine classic and it's also something different...not sure what Nintendo were thinking
Scotty_GO Pilotwings is brilliant, one of the all-time great SNES games and it was also ground-breaking...I've got no issue with many of the choices on the SNES mini and I appreciate there are only so many that can be installed (21 in this case) but really, Super Punch Out? You've also got more than one RPG and more than one horizontal shoot 'em up not to mention two StarFox games. Pilotwings offered something different. Should have been included and I'm not alone if you look at the 'what games do you want' polls when the console was announced.
now if any game is boring, it's Super Punch Out...Pilotwings was a great challenge as the difficulty level rose with each level and the game ended with a mission. It's a bona fide classic.
El Indio You're straight crazy if you think the game was brilliant. It was a launch title and the ip has always been a launch title. Snes, 64, 3ds. The main point my guess at least is to show what the system can do. So it's like a throwaway ip for benchmarking in a way.
I remember OG EGM magazine giving a high review for this game. The SNES was clearly technologically better equipped than the Sega Genesis with those scaling and rotating graphics. I wish I was a multi-console gamer in the 80s and 90s. I missed lots of good stuff playing only the Sega hardware.
My neighbour always wanted to play this instead of Donkey Kong Country. It was his machine so he got to decide. Never liked this game but I's good to relive the memories anyway.
it was my 2nd game on snes back in days... i just wanted Super Mario World but my dad decided to buy Pilotwings :D , later i bought Super Mario Allstars =) ... nice memories lel
+Cheeki Breeki I'm biased because I've played it for many years. I'd say yes if you like a serious challenge (the game really isn't that easy). If you've played any of the other games in the series, this is nothing like those.
Dude just calls you a coward..then you tell him to do it and then he says I'm licensed for motorcycles not helicopters...and you think to yourself..like I am??!!
When I first played Pilotwings, I thought that the game was kind of like Rocketeer. In that it was unplayably bad. Many years later, I learnt that I wasn't the only one who thought that Rocketeer was a terrible game. But I also learnt that people absolutely adored Pilotwings. So um... I'm still kind of confused about that.
as a kid, i was amazed by these graphics.
i still am :)
Dark Blade looks very good imo, but it has a helper chip. Stock SNES could never handle this game at a playable speed without that chip.
As a kid, I couldn't land the plane without crashing.
@@peterdavis9760 same here!
I wasn't born then but I can imagine! The wonders of mode 7

This game was the Bain of my existence growing up. "Rate of descent to great!!!!!"
cool you played games, when most girls hate them (or hated them in that day - 1990s)
Thank you for this video. Brings back a lot of fond memories.
They knew how to write game music in those days.
OMG this game reminds me of my childhood. Pilotwings was awesome!
I almost failed out of college for playing this when it was released. Yes, I'm that old.
I dropped out of University so I could play SimCity! SNES version.

In the UK, only released Super Nintendo not Super Famicom.

I used to just fly around as long as I could. Back then,it was amazing.
+MiscellaneousCentral I Used to crash the plane in the water and never would let out my chute so Tony would get mad!
Lol
I'm just here for the *SICK* graphics
omg I loved all the pilot wings games I was obsessed with them I'd get home from school and straight onto it.
You nearly ate it so many times I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, good job
***** I have to be honest. I've played this game since it came out in '92 and I've NEVER played it this well. I'm positive this was a one off and I'll never play it like this again.
Scotty_GO I've been playing this game since I was born and I haven't seen past Lance's stage...
Fuck that hang glider.
***** Hanglider is THE WORST thing besides the rescue missions. The helicopter stages are a voyage to Troll City.
So it appears
How the fuck do you work that hand glider anyway?!
What a thrill this game was when it first came out! Thanks for posting!
This Brings back Memories of the snow storm of 1993!
I love those helicopter scenes, it seems like a normal flight simulator then BOOM now you are in a combat helicopter blasting down turrets.
When i was a child, This game was very difficult
It still is! 😁
My friends and I would play this on rainy summer days. Brings back a lot of great memories!
So I finally beat this game in my Nintendo. Can I be hired as an airline pilot now? I hate my job.
It’s 2018 and i am a 14 year old and think this game looks absolutely brilliant
It doesn't, also cringe.
Sorry for a 2 year wait on this reply! I'm glad you like the game. It's one of my favourites.
@@timmydirtyrat6015 “YOU’RE CRINGE”
You really loved to slam that plane down.
god watching this is making me crine remembering all the rage this game induced back in the day
0:27 I never thought he looked like a Tony.
Jamira Jamira 🤣
He looks more like a "Joey" to me.
I played this game to death, I wasn't satisfied with less than 100.. I got the silver wings with maximum, but not the Gold, but I did try.
great memories, thanks for sharing.
Amazing playing here.

Bro Thanks for posting man.. Dope Run Thru
+Jason Douglas Thank you! I still can't believe this run myself.
+Scotty_GO did you uitlize TAS

I request you do a speedrun due to your high skillset.
+Reuben Ahmed I'll take a crack at it! Though learning a speedrun isn't particularly fun. I'll have a few goes though, see if I can work something out.
One of my earliest memories
I loved this game as a kid. Hard as balls, but still fun.
My brother thought this game was Dragon Ball because the cover had orbs on them.
I loved this game as a kid lol.
You are a god. I always thought that rescue level was impossible. I think you're the only person ever to beat this game. I bow to you.
Alex Olson I finished this game 2 times. The rescue mission wasn't that hard for me but... the second round of tests with the heavy wind and snow was a very good challenge!
Come on, Pilotwings is an easy game.
Laurent Faurite true. Beat it back when i was 10
@@laurentfaurite8660 and today in "Somebody commenting on games they've never played..."

Ah this old game. A fun game as a kid

the nostalgia punch me in the face after that
jesus scotty good work, im stuck on the first rescue mission, the copter just maneuvers way to slow to get out of bullets range. I've only been playing this for a day or two but i'm frustrated i can't get by this yet.

Loved this damn game!!
Imagine if the instant you were hit, the screen read SHIT!
Man I miss this. What a game.

"WATCH ALTITUDE...WATCH ALTITUDE"....Yet the ring is 30 feet from the water surface.
Many nights sleep lost to this game
God, I miss this game
Quite a soothing game, happy days

absolute travesty this game hasn't been put onto the SNES mini...should have been a shoe-in as it's a genuine classic and it's also something different...not sure what Nintendo were thinking
El Indio Honestly? At least 75% of the games on SNES Mini are better than this! PW is good, but not THAT good.
Scotty_GO Pilotwings is brilliant, one of the all-time great SNES games and it was also ground-breaking...I've got no issue with many of the choices on the SNES mini and I appreciate there are only so many that can be installed (21 in this case) but really, Super Punch Out? i w ould super punch more then this. this game looks boring
now if any game is boring, it's Super Punch Out...Pilotwings was a great challenge as the difficulty level rose with each level and the game ended with a mission. It's a bona fide classic.

Muito bom esse jogo, joguei muito.
I use to play this game. At least I succeeded my best, even on the harder level.
I thought the first pilot wings was on 64. This looks like a gem!
same :D
nostalgia :)))
My neighbour always wanted to play this instead of Donkey Kong Country. It was his machine so he got to decide. Never liked this game but I's good to relive the memories anyway.
Hahaha i was that kid
10:46 similar to the sound of Ganon teleporting in Link to the Past.
it was my 2nd game on snes back in days... i just wanted Super Mario World but my dad decided to buy Pilotwings :D , later i bought Super Mario Allstars =) ... nice memories lel
This was thee game!
came cause I was wondering if I should buy this on 3DS Is it worth 11$?
+Cheeki Breeki I'm biased because I've played it for many years. I'd say yes if you like a serious challenge (the game really isn't that easy). If you've played any of the other games in the series, this is nothing like those.
This game was made by only 10 people
90 points on skydive with Shirley? Should be 100 without exception, as long as you are controlling with the A button it is incredibly simple.
What happens if you decide to pick "No! I won't do it" in the final stage?
Dude just calls you a coward..then you tell him to do it and then he says I'm licensed for motorcycles not helicopters...and you think to yourself..like I am??!!
Omfuckinggod! This game brings me way back to when it all began 💖💖 oh... And the the Sims ❤️❤️😂😂😁
Haha. Is that a penguin ?
same engine as f-zero it seems. and also the acceleration sound
LMTR14 but also used a helper chip....
I am terrible with the planes!
Omg I remember this game just by hearing that intro :-(
51:08 my message to the Chicago Cubs as of Sat 9-7-19.
