Randy Johnson was a freak of nature. His best years were with the Diamondbacks after he left the Mariners, even though he was already dynamite with the Mariners. His final season (age 46) was in 2009.

The biggest robbery in baseball history was how often Griffey Jr. Got injured. I contend if he didn't continue to get injured, he would hold the all time home run record and within souting distance of the all time hits record. Less talk of Bonds and steroids, or Rose and gambling and the Hall of Fame.

Winning a World Series is really, really hard to do, and requires that you never, ever get unlucky over the small sample size of a 5 or 7-game series. A lot of great teams never managed it - Cleveland had a lot of talent in the 90s, too, but they came up short. Even if you have objectively the best team in baseball, you've probably got about a 40% shot of taking home the trophy.

So the thing with David Ortiz's last name is his legal family name is Ortiz Arias, which is how traditional Hispanic last names are: Father's last name first and Mother's last name second. The Mariners probably didn't know (or care) about this, so they listed his last name as Arias because they may have thought Ortiz was a middle name. When he was traded to the Twins, he explained that he would prefer to go by Ortiz, since that's the paternal last name and more common way of shortening a Hispanic last name.
