"Dorktown" is the name of one of the many formats on Secret Base, in that case the one where the videos are written and narrated by the duo of Jon Bois and Alex Rubenstein

Dave Niehaus's voice was the sound of the arrival of Spring for me. And I'll never forget Luis Sojo for that insane hit in the one game playoff against the Angels.

Because of him, once a year I actually make a salami sandwich on Rye bread with mustard for every opening day game since 1995 and I hate Rye bread! lol Luis Sojo wasn't even on the team for more than a couple years I think, but he's a Seattle legend because of that hit.

I kinda want a Anaheim/California /Los Angeles Angels documentary like this. The only difference between the two franchises is that we won a championship while the mariners continue to flounder. But we're definitely wasting Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani

@34:57 The 2001 season was the one where I really followed every game I possibly could (usually on radio in my dad's truck when he'd take me around everywhere he was going for work after school). Total deep dive. 5 of the AL All-Star team starters were Mariners, I think, and it was in Seattle. Seemed perfect. After they lost to the Yankees in the playoffs, after the best regular season imaginable, I told myself I wouldn't watch / listen to Mariners game again until the next time they made the playoffs. Haven't watched / listened to a complete MLB game in 20 years now. *sigh*

I was hyped after the 2000 season. We squeezed in the wild card on the final game of the season. A-Rod made the catch at shortstop. Swept the White Sox and lost in 6 to the Yanks. I knew next year would be special somehow. A-Rod left and I was pissed, but not even an hour after finding out he left, I said that now were gonna be insane somehow. We lost Randy, Griffey and now Alex. For some reason after every star we lost (With the exception of Edgar) we got better and better. In 2001 I got in trouble all the time when I snuck off to watch or listen Mariners games in School. We kept winning and winning and I felt that we were gonna at least get to the World Series. To have it end that way broke my heart. I still kinda feel to this day that they were sabotaged for the sake of the Yankees, all of New York and 9/11. Nothing else to this day makes any sense. That was the greatest team ever assembled period. No one will ever break that record. You should tune in to the M's now. Don't think they're gonna make much noise this year, but they got a shot to make the wild card.

@@eddiebready23 I remember the driveway my dad's truck was parked in when I heard over the radio when I heard that the already being called "Pay-Rod" was going to the Rangers for the biggest sports contract ever. It was so huge I couldn't imagine that it was going to pay off for the Rangers. When I found out that Ichiro was finally gonna be allowed to come over I was pretty hyped but not even as hyped as I should have been! I don't remember getting in trouble at school for listening to Mariners games (just Gonzaga games) so maybe you followed that season even more closely 😂. I remember I was in the mechanic's garage of a friend's dad watching the 2001 season end for the Mariners. It was a fun party at his place so it softened the blow.
As for your conspiracy theory... I've entertained it, I've jokingly thought that the Mariners were trying to be the good guys but Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling weren't going to be softies, but... I dunno what happened.
I don't know if I can get into baseball again... my best friend is really into hockey and I wish I could get into it but doesn't seem likely. I hear rumors that Fernando Tatis Jr. is doing amazing things and seen some awesome highlights but San Diego's a long way a away.

@@snowflakepillow8697 I had to go to therapy for that. I seriously made every excuse to leave class and watch games. It wasn't a lot, only because most games were at night and weekend games were early. Those few day games during the school week pissed me off though. In therapy they asked, why can't you just accept that you'll miss some games? Very simply I replied, because I don't want to. Lol As for the conspiracy theory, that's probably all it is. It's still there, but we did lose. I just hate how sports caters to the so-called marquee teams. Whether you get into baseball again or not remains to be seen, but to see all these kids of former players around is pretty cool. Fernando Tatis Jr. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Cavan Biggio Bo Bichette. There's more I haven't mentioned I'm sure.

I totally didn't remember the Angels collapsing like that. Or the voting, but I definitely remember the tiles falling in the Kingdome and the need for a new building after that.

    • @eddiebready23

My Stepdad Greg was always reminding me about the vote and the Angels. He was from Ohio and was a huge Indians and Browns fan. He moved permanently to Washington State and absorbed the M's as his 2nd favorite team along with the Seahawks. The Kingdome tiles falling was a crazy thing that happened. I heard someone died having to do with that. (I could be wrong about that) When we got the Indians in the ALCS in '95, My Stepdad almost lost his mind. Even though I was a 10 year old kid who was crying after we lost to Cleveland, I felt happy for him that his Indians got to the World Series. Then I felt sad for him after they lost to the Braves. I think what's even crazier is that he took me, my brother and sister Gregory and Crystal to a game the following year in '96 against the Indians when the Earthquake hit. We were on our way out because my Stepdad wanted to beat traffic home because we were probably getting whooped and we felt the Earth quake. We didn't quite believe what was happening right away until we got in the car and we heard it on the radio. Crazy Times!
