    Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to seeing what industrial machine you pick up for your bag making creations. I also keep a box of Crayola chalk near me. I pick them up during back to school sales. You never know when you'll need them!

    Thanks for the update on the HD3000. I have an HD5000 which is similar to yours. I am a beginner and self taught.
    This may be something that everybody knows, but I had a lot of trouble with needles and thread when reversing direction until I started manually lowering the needle all the way whenever switching direction.
    Maybe it's just my machine, or maybe everyone but me knew that.
    Keep up the good work. I appreciate the information you offer.

    I'm not sure how I missed your in Houston too! My husband bought me a Janome CoverPro 1000 for Christmas and it's a great machine. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one. Love following a "local' maker! :)

    Thank you for the video. For what it's worth, I own the Sailrite LS-1, their entry level machine. I've been pretty happy with it and I think Sailrite has pretty good service. If I ever upgrade to a full on industrial, I would probably get the Fabricator.

    Great video. I like to use Crayola washable markers for tracing patterns. For light fabrics, anyway. They're meant for kids and the lines come right out in the wash.
    On the subject of the Janome HD3000... I bought one of these a couple of months ago and I am not happy with it. Despite it being advertised by every vendor as having a 1.0A amp motor, which is more powerful- it came with a pitiful 0.5A amp motor and can barely go through 4 layers of cotton.
    This machine is anything but heavy duty, and IMO about equal to a machine that's half the price. There are a lot of complaints online from other users about this machine with the 0.5A motor.
    So anyone looking to buy this "heavy duty" HD3000- bear that in mind. :-/
    I will be very interested to see if you get a *real* heavy duty machine. Good luck!

    From my understanding, you are never to go reverse with a walking foot on. You walking foot doesn’t have a reverse lol. So it’s going forward and your feed dogs are going backwards at same time. That will definitely break a needle.

    • @SewNaturalDane

    This video was so informative! I just have one question- By 'no speed control', do you mean that when you press the foot pedal, it's either 100 or 0, (as opposed to a sliding scale of speed based on pressure) or something different?
    Once again thank you for the video!

    • @SewNaturalDane
      @SewNaturalDane  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there, yes, it's based on the amount of pressure put on the foot petal. I'd prefer if I can control it better like on my other machines. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching.

    Great Video! I'm a semi-beginner sewer and I also have the Janome HD-3000 and have issues when sewing layered thick canvas. The machine nearly always jams and I have to rethread, did you have this issue?

    • @SewNaturalDane
      @SewNaturalDane  Před 3 lety

      Hi Roel, not jamming, but maybe try a different thread type. I use the gutterman (spelling?) thread (70) and it works really well with my machine. If it keeps happening, also check the type of needle. I typically use a jean needle and you may need to change the needle for every new project. Just a few suggestions for you. Thanks for watching.

  • @jacquelinedavila-alicea7545

    Good Day, Love your video. Anyone , correct me if I’m wrong. My understanding is you are not to use reverse while using a walking foot. My Janome has a lock stitch that lock the first stitch and last when activated. This comes in handy while using the walking foot because it stitches in place without reversing. I’m not sure if your Janome comes with this stitch. Trying to reverse with a back stitch can cause damage to your machine while using a walking foot. But if I’m wrong let me know...

    • @SewNaturalDane

    Sorry you’re having problems with needles breaking and fabric not feeding properly. I have Janome HD 3000 and Janome Skyline 5 and like them, but don’t like Janome walking feet. I just sew garments, not bags. The walking foot arm tends to stick in upright position. I’ve used a nail file on the walking foot housing and even a little oil - it works better for a while, but eventually problem comes back again.

    (This is just my opinion)... I still own my old 1973 Kenmore Sewing machine from my childhood but I stopped using it for the newer models....that thing is a WORK HORSE!! It is my first machine!! I didn't know anything about "skip stitches" or any dragging problems. That's because it is a all metal machine. These newer "plastic parts" machines (I own 4 now) keep trying to compare themselves with old school. You shouldn't have to struggle with a new one. It should perform just as the dealer said that it would. The reverse should reverse! The fabric choice should go through regardless. I totally love your channel and you. But I'm asking myself why is she having problems already 😕?
    Also consider purchasing a "industrial bobbin winder" not the Singer one from Walmart. My burned-out within 6 months of using it (Singer). This will help the motor in the long run.

      @mamasaidsew4843 Před 3 lety +1

      I agree with you about the Kenmores. I got one so I could make jeans. Workhorse is an understatement. That thing sews through 12 oz denim and leather with no problem and I got it at the thrift store for like 20 or 25 dollars. I now have an industrial but I won't get rid of my Kennie.

      I had no idea there was such a thing as industrial bobbin winder, I will have to look into that. Thank you! As far as the reversing, I was told by a couple commenters you can't reverse stitch with a walking foot or it will mess with the machine. So that explains that when using my walking foot, but not when using the other feet, so hopefully the dealer will assist with that. Glad you have a workhorse, there is something to be said for metal parts.
