Checkout my most recent updated review of the Janome HD3000 here: czcams.com/video/y4BQ-Hv55l0/video.html
Fantastic! Never too many machines! A word of warning, if you use Leather needles for faux leather, it will make a split that will grow, due to the way the leather needle is made. Use a chrome or teflon Denim needle instead. And the thumping sound on the thicker leather is probably the needle, not the motor. You do need a leather needle for leather. BTW, it is pronounced 'Janom-E', you were correct the first time. Thank you for the video.
Oh Colleen thank you so much for that tip. I will be sure to purchase those type of needles, super helpful! Thank you for watching.
I bought this same machine a few months ago. Still haven’t used all the stitches but I love this machine....
Wonderful, I have only used the straight stitch and zig zag stitch - LOL, so I understand.
How exciting! I can tell you are going to have lots of fun bag making with this machine!
Oh my gosh Claire, YES, I'm super excited.
You can never have to many machines! One for sewing your bags looks like it's perfect for the job! Congratulations and congrats on your industrial machine.
Thanks so much Margie for agreeing, hahahah. Thank you for watching.
Congratulations on your new machine! We have to have the right tools for better results!! 😉 Looks like it's going to get the job done for you too! Excited to see your next bag! (and your gift ideas videos too! 🤗)
Thanks so much Myra. Now, I need to totally reorganize my room, it's very "all over the place" with a new machine and new toys - LOL!
This was a very detailed walk through, exactly what I needed to see while comparing models! Thanks so much :)
Glad it was helpful! thank you for watching.
Thank you for this video, based on your information I purchased my "in between" Janome too! Can't wait! lol
Hope you like yours as well. It's definitely helping me in this in between stage at the moment. Thank you for watching.
You're going to have great fun with that machine! Xx
I think so too Kathie, I'm ready to dive in
Congratulations on your new sewing machine!!!
Thank you Fatine.
Thanks for this review because I used it to determine whether to purchase this Janome from this particular store and they were awesome.
Glad you found it helpful Pilar and you received great service. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing this machine! I'm drooling for one of these.
No problem, hopefully you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Quick question, if it's okay: is the outer housing of the HD3000 plastic?
Yay! You have you new machine. She sounds and sew like a winner based on your demo from the video.
Thanks so much Tina, I'm quite excited!
Thanks for this. You (and Adam Savage) sold me on getting this machine!
Glad to have helped! Thanks for watching.
WOW Great Demo !! I've been looking for a machine to back up my old Singer 15-91 .. love this one because of the variety of stitches ... I'm calling to order one because this video has me SOLD on it !! Thank you !!!!!
Glad I could help Vickie
Congratulations on your new machine.
Thanks so much Meletia
Congratulations on your new baby..Thank you for sharing. Ive been eyeing this machine to do free motion and ruler quilting plus make tote bags..
I think it just might handle everything i need.
No problem Sherry. Definitely go test it out in your local store, if you are able. That way you know if it can handle the thread, materials that you plan to use.
I have the same machine and love it.
Deb, I can see why, I'm ready to dive in!
Amazing amazing thank you so much you really have facilitated a lot of troubleshooting and obstacles that I would've faced without your help. Cheers to you by blessings thank you so much, looking forward to more ways of doing my best with leather and vinyl
Thank you Detron, glad it was helpful. I've done an updated video as well you can check out here: czcams.com/video/y4BQ-Hv55l0/video.html
I just got the Janome 4120 QDC-b, for Mother’s Day. I love it and it has the thread trimmer the only problem I’ve had was somehow I burnt the needle threader so I got a buy a new attachment for that. I love this machine. Before I had a brother and I had so many problems all the time with it.
Oh, never heard of that model before, glad you are enjoying yours as well. I'm still playing around with this one.
Fantastic review. Thankyou!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Excellent review!!
Thank you young lady ;)
My pleasure and thanks for watching.
🖐 "Congratulations!!" I'm loving this demo!! FYI...as for the needles they are usually "color coded". Which will tell you what they are used for. 💘💘💘🍹🍹
Thank you, I'll definitely investigate and thanks so much for watching.
Good luck with the new Machine
Thank you Kim
I love my Jenome 9900. It's will sew most anything.
I definitely can see that and I found it very helpful to test it in the store as well.
You’re a blessing. Thank you.
You are so welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
I just ordered the Janome HD3000BE in Black from HSN yesterday as a National Sewing Month special. Last check yesterday, they had 2 of these machines left. You can never have too many machines. I own plenty of different brands and models including sergers and I enjoy my babies! A lot of the sewing machine manufacturers are behind due to Covid-19 and people staying at home. Hopefully, they will catch up before the holidays so people can be happy sewing.
Congrats!!! I've heard that as well about manufacturers being behind on production. Hopefully it will get better as the holidays are right around the corner - LOL! Thanks for watching.
I just found your videos, and i appreciate your taking the mystery out of some sewing items, explaining what a stiletto etc is and how to use these items, and notions. But especially Thanks for the Janome reviews and demo videos using yours because i bought one several years ago and haven’t used it much. I have some vintage , been -in -the- family- as- a -favorite-garment but now ready to be remade into other items leather to sew with it and thank you for making these friendly intelligent videos. I like your style, you are very neighborly and easy to follow your directions.
Thanks so much PJ for the feedback, I greatly appreciate it and glad you found it helpful!!!
@@SewNaturalDane I think you do a great job
Fabulous machine. In 1998 I bought the Janome My Excel 23X still going strong. Almost exactly like yours. But cost $699.00 Canadian plus tax in those days. I love mine and hope you're machine brings you as much joy. Thanks for sharing. Meg
Thanks so much Meg, I'm sooooo excited and ready to start making my bags, I have so many in my cue - LOL!
23x is a good ,best machine,,,take care of it. When last you had it serviced. By a repeatable tech,,
You made me going and buy this machine
Hey there Kendra, I do enjoy this machine. Also, be sure to check out my latest review after using it for several months. That video is pinned in the comments. Thanks for watching.
I was toying between which machine to purchase the HD3000 or HD5000 and luckily stumbled across your CZcams video. I love the fact that it was uncut and you tested all types of materials. I will be purchasing the HD5000 which comes with the Janome Quilting package. FYI: You can sew with thicker leather just as long as you skive the sewing edges. By skiving it, you will have no issues and you will get an professional result with being bulky. I use contact glue after sewing each sections. My icon picture is one of the purses I made with my Singer 500CG which doesn’t have the height level like the Janome’s HDs. Singer’s CG horsepower is not as strong as Janome.
So happy you enjoyed the video! Oh my gosh, I'm not as nearly talented to purchase a skiver, but I've seen many bag makers use it and it seems like it's a life-saver for sure for leather. Eventually, I do just want to get an industrial machine...my bucket list is growing constantly - LOL. Thanks for watching and the bag in your profile looks amazing.
@@SewNaturalDane I started out using a hand skiving tool by Tandy that costed $7 or $8 dollars at that time and graduated to a tabletop skiving tool that costed $90 that I purchased on eBay. I also purchased a bundle of mixed scrap leathers to practice with. Once I got the correct settings for each thickness, I taped it on a card stock and wrote down the necessary settings information. This skiver It is now going for $104 to $120. I don’t have the room for the motorized skiver and don’t feel a need for it since my tabletop one works with ease. FYI: The Singer machine that I sold was a 590-CG and not a 500-CG.
On stitching the thick denim, the stitch was beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
Congrats great demo looking forward to following you with your handbag making.
I have pick up interest in handbag making.
Happy New Year and prosperity
Ms.K from Pittsburgh
Thank you Karen and I'm having so much fun making handbags. All the details you can put into a bag are so much fun.
I have purchased both of my Janome machines from them. They have another store which also carries a wide selection of machines. I highly recommend a dealership as well. They also do a great job servicing machines as well. I moved East and have not found a comparable dealer.
So true, I take my machines there for their annual service and so far am pleased with it.
I ordered mine coming on fri I can't wait I make handbags and my brother computerized machine is not cutting it! thanks for the video! Been sewing for over 40 years had 3 brothers mess up on me so I'm trying this.
Hope you enjoy it! Awesome, I really do like it for the types of handbags/wallets I make. I did do an updated video with some of the challenges I had after having for some time. Definitely check that out, it's linked in the pin comments in this video. Still a GREAT MACHINE, glad I have it.
@@SewNaturalDane omg mine came with a walking foot and the foot for leather! I'm so excited to use it!
Thanks for the great video. The unboxing got me giggling!!! Why? Because husband Santa got me an HD3000 from Tandy. I didn’t open it until yesterday so I could make some upholstery pillows. When I opened the box it the styrofoam was torn with pieces missing and the machine was missing half it’s parts (like the metal piece over the feed dog and bobbins among other major things ). So I got to deal with Tandy’s corporate office today. They’re sending me a new machine and paying for the return shipping on the incomplete one!!!
OH MY GOSH Susan, that's horrible, but the bright side is that you get a brand new machine with all its pieces. Hope this video helps with any questions you may have had. I'll be doing a full review of the machine when I have it another couple months. Thanks so much for watching and congrats on the new machine.
I like you! (It comes across much better in person, but I do. I think you're great!)
Thank so much Sherry, I appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for the video. I'm curious to know how the machine has held up over time? Also, do you recommend Sewing & Vacuum Warehouse for repairs and maintenance?
I just did an updated review a couple weeks ago, you can check it out here: czcams.com/video/y4BQ-Hv55l0/video.html and yes, I do recommend sewing & Vaccuum warehouse, I've had great customer service to date with the maintenance of my machines.
What kind of table do you have and does it come with a table that attaches? Thank you for sharing, loved it.🙏🏼💫
Hi Ann, my machines are actually sitting on an IKEA long white table. It's pretty sturdy and none of my machines vibrate while operating them. Thanks for watching.
May I ask if you made the bag hanging on the closet door! If so what pattern did you use. Enjoy your new machine. I’m interested in bag making and unfortunately find it a little intimidating! Will just need to jump in and get started.
Nope, that's a bag from Macy's I got quite a few years ago. However, I did make the Brown/Pink one you see hanging behind me and I just did a video on it last week, you can check that out if you are interested. It's been a process, but once you start playing around with making bags you will surely get addicted - LOL. I have a playlist of all the ones I've made as well.
Hi, really enjoyed your video. Mine is on its way. I love Janome machines. My question which walking foot did you get. You mentioned in your video you were going to get one. And where did you purchase it. Thanks
Sally, that's awesome. I bought the Janome Brand walking foot at the same dealer I purchased my machine. Definitely keep to Janome parts if you get it from a dealer, that's what was suggested to me. that way the warranty would still cover the machine if that foot causes problems. Thanks for watching.
Hola! Love the video! Just got the hd3000be for leather and vinyl pocket belts (fanny pack kind of). What size needles and thread are you using?
Congratulations!!! I use denim needles for my cork and faux leather. As I stated in this video, don't think I'll be trying leather for a while. I'm still looking to get a more industrial machine. Thread, I used the Guiterman 70 weight thread from Wawak (great prices). Hope that helps.
@@SewNaturalDane awesome blossom 🌸! Thank you so much!!
hello! love the review i am not sure if i missed this but how many mm does the presser foot lift? i keep googling and can’t find an answer:l :( they all just say “extra high”
Great question, if I measured right, it's about 1 - 1.5 inches. Hope that helps.
Congratulations! I just curious concerning the thread. If the higher the number the thinner the thread why use thinner thread than thicker thread when sewing handbags? As always your videos are very informative.
Great question and I'm still learning that myself - LOL!. Being a little new handbags/wallets, I'm going off of what I've seen some more experience bag makers mentioned. The Mara thread has a different composition, so I'm thinking that's why. There are other types, but it depends on if you are using an actual industrial machine (kind of like that Selric Bonded Polyester I showed). That one worked fine, but I understand is more suitable for industrials. I'll definitely be playing around with it.
Hi, after posting the question I did some research and realize that I was thinking the name of the thread Gutermann Mara 70 was the thread weight. However, the thread weight is tex 40. This is what I found: For example: 40 weight = 225 denier = Tex 25. A common Tex number for general sewing thread is Tex 25 or Tex 30. A slightly heavier silk buttonhole thread suitable for bartacking, small leather items, and decorative seams might be Tex 40. A strong, durable upholstery thread, Tex 75. So now I understand, hope the information helps you. Have a great day!
Interesting review!👍 Do you know the maximum thread size (tex) for this machine?
Thank you. No, I do not. I've only used guterman thread. Both the thread used for buttonholes ( which i use for bag making) and regular sewing
How, where do you put the big spool attachment accessory?
The tall spool holder? That can simply sit behind the sewing machine when I'm using a larger spool. It doesn't attached to the machine. Hope that makes sense and thanks so much for watching.
I have questions, Please & Thank You. I have recently bought the same Janome HD3000 machine. I am having trouble sewing vinyl straps when using wonder clips, stopping to remove them, seems to leave loose stitches underneath the straps. Any suggestions?
Hmmm, are you securing the straps in place with double sided tape first? That helps me when I'm doing my purse straps and to use wonder clips. I also try to sew at a slower speed and at a stitch length of 3 or 3.5. I also use a denim needle when I'm sewing vinyl. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Have you tried the Singer Quantum Stylist? The Singer vs this Janome...what would you buy?
I have not tried that one and I'm not familiar with it, so I don't have a review versus the Janome. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
I could just hang out with you and have coffee.
Well it's that nice of you. Hope I can keep you entertained. Thanks so much for watching.
Have you tried sewing Veg Tan leather with this Janome? I am trying to find a machine that can sew through a 3-4 mm piece.
Hi Linda, no I haven't tried that with this machine. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Is there a table attachment for the HD3000? Have one on the way and would love to have the extra surface area to work with. Thanks.
No table attachment comes with this machine. Hope that helps.
@@SewNaturalDane I was wondering if one exists that could be purchased separately...? Anyone know?
I have a hd 2200 and had to buy one online from a company called HORN in the uk. Not sure if you have thus
For your information,,,,get two Bobbin Cases,,,one set for thin and one for thick thread. Mark one with white off. Small dot. ,,,,get a Roller Foot. And the White color leather Presser foot,,,get only Janome made accessories. Good luck The Button Sew foot is different,,,you have to purchase extra,,,it’s better to sew buttons,,on by hand,,,,lots of settings up,,,the see plastic foot ,,is not Button Hole foot,,, and use only number 16 needles ,,,you got the best machine,,,
Thanks for the tips, very helpful. I do have 2 bobbin cases, which I find quite helpful. Thanks for watching.
Love the top bin that has specific slots designated for specific feet (no fumbling thru a bag of random feet) - the chart that tells you which feet for which stitch. I have a Kenmore Sensor Sew 70 from the early 80's that was made by janome- the first computerised / programable one- and it has the same top bin. I was given a brother for Christmas- cheaper and chock full of features- but am returning it due to stitch issues. The HD3000 is on my top 2 list- the other being the Magnolia 7330 because I prefer a machine with a stop / start button- I have knee problems and foot pedals bother my knee.
You know that's one thing I wish this machine had was a start/stop button. Though for now, it does help me watch my speed when I'm sewing as it also doesn't have speed control. However, so far I am loving it, better able to handle these thicker fabrics such as vinyl, etc.
I sew vinyl bags and wallets. I was working on a wallet classic zip around by maggy55
The last top stitching proving impossible for any of my machines. It’s 1 layer vinyl, zipper tape, 10 layers of cotton woven, 1 Kraft Tex and 1 decovil light. Yikes! It won’t catch my bobbin thread. Will this work for me?
Hi Nicole, I've made the maggy55 zip around and don't recall all those layers. the kraftex and decovil shouldn't be in the seam allowances when you cut out. Also, not sure what design elements you are adding that you have 10 layers of cotton woven, that's quite a bit. Are you following her video tutorials that are included with her pattern? I highly suggest doing that. I didn't have any issues making the zip around on my machine. If you do decide to go with all the layers you are using I wouldn't think it would work on the Janome HD3000
10 layers? Surely that’s a typo. I don’t recall any pattern that calls for that many layers!
Brother ST371HD vs Janome 423S vs Singer Heavy Duty, for working Jeans, Leather
which one do you recommend because there is a considerable difference in the
final price, right?
Just because I'm quite biased towards Brother machines, I will say the Brother machine for sure. However, I know several people that have the Singer Heavy Duty machine and they have said it really is a good machine. If you are able and you have dealerships in your area, I would definitely suggest going to shop in person and testing them with different fabrics. Hope that helps.
@@SewNaturalDane thanks
Faux leather really needs a Denim needle, with real leather use a leather needle. Great video, Thanks
Yes that's definitely correct 😊. This was a few years ago, still haven't gotten an industrial 😄
I have a Janome "Magnolia," do you think that can be used to sew leather?
Oh, that's a GREAT question. Unfortunately, this is my first ever Janome product that I've bought. All of my other machines are Brothers, so I haven't the slightest idea. Try searching on Google or CZcams to see if someone did a demo on that machine. Sorry couldn't be of much more help.
@@SewNaturalDane Thanks
Can 1000 Janome kind like this one does the leather Sitching of a Gucci handbag and does curves
Not sure if that's a question or statement, but I'm not sure if the 1000 Janome can stitch leather. Unless you are saying it can, that's good to know for those that may be interested, so thanks for sharing that.
Would this work on my biker bibs? the material can be about a half inch thick in some places esp in the shoulder straps ....
Hmmm, I would be a little cautious about that one. I do find with some thicker materials the machine struggles. Thanks for watching.
@@SewNaturalDane I have one last question for you.... how high in inches or CM can you raise that foot on that machine... kinda hard to tell in the video. It looks like a good solid 1 to 2 inches?
thank you for the demo looks like a great machine does it have the needle up/down option
Thank you Debbie. No, it doesn't have that feature.
Can it sew through 4oz shell cordovan leather?
Hi there, I'm not a leathergoods expert, so i'm not familiar with Cordovan leather. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I've always had a problem with zigzag Stitch have you? I've had mine for 3 years and still can't get a perfect zigzag Stitch
great question, I actually have not used the zig zag stitch on this machine, as I only plan to use this back for bag making only and maybe jeans. However, on my other machines, for a zig zag stitch I've played around with stitch length and stitch width. It took me some time to get the right balance, hope that may help.
@@SewNaturalDane I actually figured it out I needed to use the zipper foot... I was using the regular foot I never really read the manual but after using the correct foot it came out excellent thank you so much for your immediate reply!
Hi, I am a newbie to sewing machine. I now own this machine. I bought thread for jeans and now found that I am unable to thread it. I guess must be wrong size of needle. Can you give me advise on the needle size?
The size needle I use for denim is the Schmetz Denim/Jeans Needle size 70/10, however, there are other needles you can use. For example, Heavy wovens and denims 70/10 - 110/18 These needles have a thick, strong shaft and a very sharp point. hope that helps.
@@SewNaturalDane Thank you...
Is this better or the singer heavy duty 4432?
Hi, I've never used the singer heavy duty, so I don't know.
I actually .think It's ironic how you are demonstrating this machine. This very machine I have been looking into. I was actually looking at the black edition. What do you think when it comes to sewing just normal sewing? Dress making?
Oh that's funny Janey, hope this was useful. As far as garment sewing, I think it would be PERFECT for that as well. It's just for me, I'm going to stick to bag making on this one and maybe jeans.
@@SewNaturalDane It was very helpful. Thanks
You suppose to help the machine as you start at all times by turning the machine wheel on your right as you probably know even with very havy duty one
Yep, thank you!
Can this machine use size 210 thread?
I'm not familiar with 210 thread, so I'm not sure. Sorry couldn't be more of help.
Hello, is this machine suitable for sewing jersey (the fabric used for leggings) Thank you!
You most certainly can sewing regular garments on it. If you are sewing jersey be sure to switch out to a jersey or ballpoint needle and use your walking foot or teflon foot. Hope that helps.
mam this machine can use for making shoes
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Blue band one is denim...lol
Ahhh, okay thank you Brenda.
Have you seen the HD5000?
No, I haven't seen the HD5000.
Do not try to backstitch if you are using a walking foot. You can destroy your machine that way.
Yep, that was mentioned in my follow-up video as well by a viewer. It's a great reminder.
Love your videos, have you heard of cottoncuts.com they offer a thread 🧵 subscription if you would like to check that out . Love your machine have a wonderful day bye 😊
Aleidra, nope never heard of them before, will definitely check them out. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
SewNaturalDane You’re welcome they also have a fabric subscription 😂
This would have been better if you had some experience with the machine before creating the video. As a lifetime sewer, guessing as you go along in this demo could be somewhat confusing to a beginner. Better luck on your next machine video.
Actually if you read the title, it is an UNBOXING and demo which signifies first time seeing and using a product. I'm sure if you want to see someone's video that talks about full use you can do a search on Google and CZcams, there's plenty out there. Good Luck👍🏽
22 minutes in until you see the sewing, waste
The title of the video is clear UNBOXING and DEMO. Not sure how that doesn't indicate that the video will include something other than just sewing. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the view. Have a wonderful week.
Wow nasty much!
