2016 Ford Focus RS - Redline: Review

- The hottest of hot hatches has finally come to America. With a 350 horsepower turbocharged engine, slick shifting 6-speed manual, and a drift-capable torque vectoring AWD system putting all that power to the pavement. It looks as if Ford has just kicked some dirt and smoke in the faces of its Subaru and Volkswagen competition. Those of you in the market for the loudest, fastest, and most attention grabbing hot hatch should run over to your local Ford dealer immediately.

Dang it sounds good. They can make the Focus sound good with this motor but the Ecoboost Mustang sounds like an ox giving birth and dying at the same time
maximus9401, dashboard looks like it was 3d-printed in someone's basement though.
Finally the car I've been waiting for you to drop a review on is here!!! I've seen other reviews but you just have that professional way of doing it, with still simple words to explain that complex manufacture dictionary... Thanks man.
I'm really glad you're getting back to doing reviews more regularly. Always enjoy them.
You make the best reviews bro.
Thanks man, as always we appreciate any and all feedback from you guys!
What do u and your partner drive. Im just curious
My partner is a huge Mercedes guy, he owns an ML55, E55, C230 6-speed, and SLK320 6-speed. I only drive a lonely 2016 Miata... ;) Was thinking about doing a more vlog style video sometime soon talking about more personal things. If I get enough request from you guys I'll make it happen!
-Sofyan
thanks for replying i always wonder what car reviewers drive
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! Soyfan my man! That would be great, really looking forward to something like that.
the Focus RS is not for everyone but was never intended to be
Thank you for doing such a thorough 360 degree walk around of all the cars you review. Much appreciated :D
4:29 "I'm not fat, you guys."
Yes you are. With a P-H
The Focus RS costs about 1/2 of what it's competing with so in fairness, PRICE must be considered. It is a great car and even though I'm a BMW guy there is no new BMW that can touch this RS 'dollar for dollar'. Respect!
M140i?
Honda type r does it better sadly
Have you been in one?
Yeah, and considering that the E90 was the last decent 3-Series Generation, this hot little number is looking like a SERIOUS performance bargain !! And this is coming from an ex-Bimmerphile like you !!
Absolutely not, BMW is usually atrocious dollar for dollar.
I’ve watched almost every episode for your reviews. They are very helpful in deciding on what car to purchase for different needs.
Don't buy a 2016 or early 2017 without looking into if those head gaskets have been replaced by Ford.
My friend has a 2016 model, either way there's a recall for it
@@poker_18rs92 Well idk what to tell you, all I know is he got it done under recall
What about late 2017 and 2018?
@@wackid2370 2018s are all good. I’d call on any 2017 & find out. A late build 10/17-12/17 is good to go.
I was never that much into car-reviews but you do a great job, thank you!
Yes thank you sofyan, I've waited so long for this review
Been watching a bunch of your videos and appreciate your work. This one was funny and fun to watch - well done!
My favorite reviewer lol, a real professional, and downright cool.
We love you, Sofyan!! :D
Your reviews are so detailed and descriptive keep up the good work 👌
Best phrase: I don't really care to save gas so I'll turn the engine back on.. omg I'm dying lmao
My favorite part "what were you thinking Ford, THIS IS FANTASTIC!" for a split second you sounded like you was gonna pout about the exhaust because you sounded genuinely disgusted. Replayed that part a few times. HYSTERICAL!
Sofyan is hands down the best vehicle reviewer on you tube, thanks bro !!!
You reviews are becoming the best
your
Mo Lo you're*
It's.. your.. ^
thats the best review i've seen of all Focus RS reviews.
Very good review, stated your opinions in the video at times which is good..! Subscribed. Good Job.
I enjoy your very detailed and meticulous reviews. Also you make me nervous when you take your hands off the wheel haha! I need one of these in Stealth Grey.
Great review as always.
Ford hit the nail on its head with this I believe! Good review man! 👍🏾
A small but interesting point. In New Zealand, this car does not have 'Focus' badging at all, just 'RS' .
Also the NZ spec car - like the British spec car - has a single red fog light placed centrally between those exhaust pipes. The light has a white lens but become red when switched on. And it's real bright. Great for waking up those tailgaters..
I always enjoy your reviews. You deliver the goods enough to make me feel a vehicle. Great review as always. Looking forward to your next
I LOVE YOU REDLINE REVIEWS
Good vehicle overview. Thanks for the nav demo.
U r the best car reviewer
Way to go! FOCUS RS! Thrills & excitement! Think about It!
Great review man.
10:45, you can get a spare tire (spacesaver) but only if you sacrifice the subwoofer since it's in the same place. A lot of manufacturers seem to do that these days. Great honest reviews, like it.

I have a renault clio rs now but maybe in a short future i could buy one focus rs. very nice review and excellent car.
Best review by far!
I don't understand the hatred of MyFord Touch. I have it on my '15 Focus Titanium and it's great. The only spot it's still slow is accessing navigation when using voice controls but you can do that as you're driving so not really an issue. That exhaust is impressive though!
Most reviewer's already have their minds made up before they conclude the tests. You test every aspect and do it enthusiastically.
Keep doing what your doing man.
Was wondering if there's any chance we get a mercedes e class (2017) review? Great videos btw!
They can't make flat floors on an AWD because of the driveshaft .
Have you ever been pulled over during any of your reviews? I'm just curious.
I was actually questioning every other person who does car reviews too-
Great review
Beautiful car, love it!
nice review!
Fine review
I'm curious if you'll ever review an Evo 10 final edition
Really liked your review of the RS !!! I can't decide between this or the upcoming refreshed 2018 Mustang GT !! i was also curious you mentioned the ride was extremely stiff and even hurting your back. What setting did you have the dampers on?? I guess the damper control is a two-stage setting by a push button switch on the end of the turn signal stalk. In track mode its the stiffest as well. Thanks again for an awesome review !!!
hmmmm I think you had it set on the hardest setting :(
yes you're right! ...very hard to find a comfortable seating position , the seat is titled upwards too high!. For me it's like/hate situation!! I think if there is 2021 ford focus RS I'll definitely buy it! because I'm fairly sure they will address all these issues and the result will be stunning ! I hope they bring back ford focus RS to us market and fix all the flaws. 1. stiffness . 2.seatting position 3. upgrade all dashboards and make it modern 4. new design 5. put more technology 6. make better turn radius 7,less torque steer 8. add blind spot 9. add dimming mirror.....I really hope they will it back
Hey Sofyan, when will you review the 2017 kia cadenza? I own the 2014, would love to hear your take.
Nice.
What is that place with all the A-frames or Teepees? Going by your GPS, it's on Pier One Road, but I couldn't find it on the satellite view.
Every time you say Ford hot hatch, It's like that commercial where the lady keeps saying she shed! Lol
What happens when you put regular unleaded in the tank? Is it just decreased performance?
Agree about the seats. It's funny you said that. I sat in one, and I thought these were the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in. Before you say you should go drive a Lincoln then, I have a GTI Autobahn (agree these aren't the most aggressive seats) and my buddy has a Porsche Cayman with aftermarket racing seats that I am perfectly fine in.
Also, sounded like you bent a rim on that overpass expansion joint. LOL
when he starts to drive the car... that is the type of reaction hot hatches should give you imo
Stevensville, MD? Eastern Shore represent!
Did you have the car in sport mode during your review?
Can you review a 2016 Ford Edge Sport?
People dump on the turning radius for the RS, its exactly the same as the Focus ST at 18.7′. Didn't hear a ton of complaints about it in the ST.
"Doesn't turn you into ken block" i died laughing. XD
gotta love that fast n furious style intro lol
If only I knew how to drive clutches. This car looks, sounds, and drives fantastic. I already wanted to learn how to drive clutches but this review definitely motivates me to learn ASAP. In my opinion (and from what I've been told and seen with my own eyes), manuals drive a whole lot better and faster than automatics. Also, I agree with the reviewer.. I definitely wouldn't buy this car because it's not a comfortable nor fuel efficient car to use for daily travels. I want a manual sedan like a Honda Accord. A car I can use daily and be comfortable while saving gas money lol. Great review though! I'm a fan of your channel. 👍🏾
MikalsVibe maybe back in the day, when automatics were still new, but now, an automatic is significantly better in all aspects except for one: the connection between driver and car.
If you want the fastest set up, then automatic is by far the best. You can't shift faster than a computer.
However, people who drive stick now know this. We drive sticks for sole reason that we control the car. Driving a manual, is engaging and fun until you hit traffic then not so much. But if you wanna have the most fun driving - manual. You want better overall performance, and fuel economy, and a few extra features (remote start) then automatic is the way to go.
Both options are good choices. However, avoid a CVT
You Said one Time ST. Good Video.
Hello Mr. Redline, very good review as always. I'm considering buying a hatchback car, would you recommend on for me? My choices are:
Kia Forte 5 SX 2017- 2019
Volkswagen JTI 2017-2019
I really do not know what else is out there. Can you help me?
Thanks.
I think this is the most excited I’ve seen you! 😂😂😂
Awesome car! $ 60,000 at our Ford dealership here in Canada in 2016! And they are had no problem moving these fantastic little buzz bombs off the lot.
Car is nice sounds great
Nice looking offering from Ford. A friend of mine just picked one up, hopefully get to drive it soon :) I was interested in this but ended up getting another 86....the 2017 Subaru BRZ.
19:15 Did I hear a grind?
Sweet cold revs
very nice review car
can you please review the new sonic rs
Should definitely do the 2017-2018 Focus ST (: since there was a lot of changes from the 2013-2014 ST.
I like the Ford focus RS it's a cool car, this car have some aftermarket support.
This is probably the only video where I saw Sofyan so animated haha
Do the Ford Focus RS has a automatic transmission with paddle shifters?
I'm trying to decide between a Ford Focus st and a Subaru BRZ. I have about 29,000 to work with, any ideas I drive the Focus SE 2015 model right niwn
Do you think this car has better performance than a mustang GT or sport sedans like the BMW 3 series?
i could see myself buying this in the near future...
Mate i really dig this new Alfa Giullia with 510 Hp, i m conciderring changing Focus Rs in a year time for it? Did u had a chance to drive Alfa,.what do you think about it. They say its the best car better then amg c63 and new m3! Well it s kinds expencive
I loved the “...encourages you to be naughty”
My dreamcar...
I feel you bro its mine too! Working for it!
J.Olliee Mann same. my local dealer has had the maxed out nitrous blue for about a month now. with the mark up they want 50k..... I'm trying my hardest to get it, lol
fuuuuuck lol
@@04saleen35 I really hope u didn't spend 50 on a RS
@@04saleen35 dealers are ridiculous
Good review, but when you talk about Ford's hot hatches you really should consider mentioning the fiesta ST. It is actually the ultimate hot hatch until the focus RS came along. It reviews much better than its bigger brother Focus ST and sells better too.
So, how does the RS daily drive vs. an ST?
can you review the juke nismo
Now time to review the type R when it comes to the states
I'm sitting on my hands waiting for the new Honda civic hatchback review!
It is true that the price tag is in the range of the BMW's but at the end of the day, who is cheaper and easier to upgrade? The focus by far, cheaper to maintain too, and actually will defeat the BMW easily with the right driver. Ford can give the prestigious German competitors a run for their money, lets be honest, Ford if they really wanted to, could create a godly car an destroy some of the best of todays driver cars. We saw that for the 2005 ford gt, cheap compared to what it competed with and just a monster on the track. Its all about what the company wants to invest in, you think a company thats been around for over 100 years feels like proving itself? Ford does not have to because every knows what ford is capable of haha, Anger the badger and it will bite.
True. Their comeback to Le Mans this year proved that..
wow...great honest review...Your back is hurting at the end of the review. Damn, too punishing of a ride. Maybe I should look at a WRX ? My ex-coworker had a Ford Focus ST, serious problems like transmission and dashboard crashing. Each took 6-8 weeks in shop to fix. Ford would NOT pay for the car rental. Maybe I should look at a Mustang?
MY DREAM CAR 😍😘
This is a somewhat random idea BUT! What I would like to see egineers do in cars like this is design the seating so you can quick release the front and rear seats in some way. So when you want to go to the track you can quickly remove all the seats for lightness. Espcially in a car like this it would be great if when the back seats are out you had a panel that would go in to give you a perfectly flat space for moving stuff and or a sleeping surface for camping/road tripping. It would also give you storage space where the seats were. I would imagine you could lose at least 100 pounds with three seats out. Doesnt sound like much but it is significant for a track day.. not to mention adding practcality if you have a flat surface. While they are at, make the rear window open out as a pass through for small loads of long stuff. Add performance and practicality would make it more appealing and easier to convince yourself or partner it is a multi purpose practical car. Just random musings.
How is the clutch in the ford focus rs? Is it stiff? Is the travel long or short? It's my first time driving manual so I need the clutch to be soft and short travel
blak238 yes soft and short. Very light
Love that intro music for the car, anyone know what it is?
Drake
Action Trap by BlueLimeMusic
His face at 13:40 🤣 man was going 80 on the 3rd gear
Nice
Review the Canadian version of the Evolution Final Edition :) ! Not the American due to the lack of Recaros and BBS wheels...
As I’m looking for a used one it’s nearly impossible to get a decent deal on one of these + many of them have multiple owners which bugs me with a turbo manual.
For better seat feel, try leaning the seat-back back one notch.
10:50 lmao there would be a lawnmower there as he revs
When will be the Golf R review ??
True the Golf R isn't as engaging to drive but if I had to daily a hot hatch I'd much rather have the R
DeShawn Williams i agree. and will last longer than ford
Golf R's are already having sensor and injector issues. The RS is a pretty simple car (less the RDU). Not much that can go wrong.
Vero Tabares Not about reliability
DeShawn Williams That was in reply to "Arman"
VW's are not known to be reliable what so ever haha, I am sure a ford would last longer just from what I see come into the shop I work at, the older stuff is crap and I have gotten a few new passats and jettas with fuel system issues, the only thing I have seen from newer fords is the my ford touch wigging out, yet still driving haha I just saw a ford focus svt come in with 190,000 miles just getting a tune up, was still alright, the best VW's I have seen are the bugs.
