Golf R = understated, classy, gorgeous, highly tuneable, and way better build quality than Ford can do. Not dogging on the RS at all though. I would still drive one.

The car has been dynoed at 250 wheel HP. Ford over boosts the twin scroll turbo charger for 20 seconds everytime you step on the gas which when it is dynoed makes around 300 wheel horsepower. The reason why Ford can market their cars to have 350 wheel HP is because the 300 wheel HP is repeatable (Everytime you step on the gas and you can repeat it by letting of the gas then stepping back on it again), however it only lasts for 20 seconds then your back down to 250 wheel HP and that's why people have been getting weird dyno numbers.
I ended up getting a 2016 ST because at the time the RS was going for over 40k so I was in no way paying that. Now that it's below 40 I might go see what they will offer me for mine.
I have a 2017 ST and love it. I'd love to have an RS but like you said a little expensive for what it is in my opinion. I might get one in the future. It'll obviously be used since the RS will no longer be available after 2018.

You hit the nail on the head. So my "race car" is my 2006 STi and I daily a 2014 Fiesta ST (bolt on and protune) and when you said I'm sick of the same 2.5L in the STi's I just laughed. That's why I'm so pumped for the RS. Bringing the bar up. STi's have been at the same 300chp, same shitty EJ257, with the same ringland problems and oil problems. I'm excited to see what subaru's answer will be to the RS. I say start putting EJ207s in all STi's and have faith in a well built 2.0L! Anyways enjoy you're new ride man! I feel like ford catfished me with my fiesta ST because I totally would have bought an RS for a "daily" as well lol.
In Europe, the Focus RSs are built in the same factory as the european-spec regular model Focus & Fiesta in Cologne, Germany. I guess the build quality of the european spec fords are better than the North American spec Fords built in Mexico?
Good comment on the golf R.... I know the RS is a badass car, but I enjoyed my modded golf R more due to the refinement and luxury feel in a hot hatchback. Each person has their own taste but for me it's German cars. Still I love and respect the RS. It's a great car

The seats don't "break in" if you actually fit in them... My fiesta ST is awesome and seats are pretty much staying the same as when I got it My 4 series on the other hand has garbage upholstery quality..
Top gear just lapped the Focus RS round their test track in the last series. Just to put things into perspective a 12 year old Evo 8 MR lapped the track half a second quicker with 2004 tyres :)
Great choice on the Nitro Blue and R2 pkg. I am jealous, pricing a similar one now will get you close to $46k. Still worth it. I applaud Ford for this timely masterpiece!
Ah so you're leasing it. That explains why you don't care for a break in period haha who knows maybe 300 miles is all they call for now. My sister had a 2012 fiesta and the build quality on that car always surprised me. So I have no doubt this is only that much better. I must say, besides the seats, the interior looked rather boring but that's fine. You don't buy a car like that for a cool interior anyways. Looking forward for more videos! Maybe a 3 way duel vs the R and STi?

+TheSmokingTire intake valve coking is a major issue on all GDI aka gas direct injection cars. I have this issue with my non st ford focus and I installed a catch can system and cleaned out my intake, throttle body and intake valves of nasty carbon build up.

+ZypherinHD you want the arrows. For sure. I like my V1 a lot. I haven't used the new passport with arrows. Biggest criticism of V1 is that it goes off too much, but you just deactivate X and K band which takes 1 minute and it shuts up unless it's an actual cop. It's a very impressive piece of hardware.

"Boy Racer", LOL. I'm 46 and would drive this car with pride and not even think about some mid life crisis thing. This car is all about the drive and seems to jail it based on reviews, like the one Matt posted here. Does it have a wing, sure, is the front end aggressive, absolutely but the way it's done is very tasteful and purposeful. These negative comments is why you hear so many comments like "Europe always gets the good stuff, why don't we?" Then Ford "tries" with cars like the Merkur, Contour SVT and Focus SVT and they ended up being half baked efforts (I owned a 2000 Contour SVT brand new so I know what I'm talking about) Not everyone wants or can have a Mustang GT based off of where they live and how they use a car, so the FoRS fits the bill and gives you a complete driving experience and exclusivity, can't get that with a run of the mill Stang GT....PERIOD!
As a current ST owner, turning radius of ST is horrible as well, I'm not surprised it's not changed. Somebody on the forums mentioned putting wider tires without modifying regular focus wheel well is the reason.
I'm still waiting to see this car for the first time in person. I was shocked to see how good the GT350 looked. The first time I see this RS, it better be in the same blue too .. love it. Nice purchase. I might buy this car in my videogame right now lol.

might look stupid, but a lot of cars have them to quiet them down. In direct injection cars, the injectors make a loud sort of clicking sound, and it can be pretty annoying.
definitely notice when you are pulled up next to stuff like garage or drive-thru. My Rs is brand new it does not matter the mileage or age, My tuned Audi 1.8t had the same sound. Good point!

Ford has spent 10yrs... getting to the point of having a hatch, with power, and paint and awd -even though its a complete bullshit option and or package- paired with the trans... And you base it being overpriced.. against.. what? -- The WRX / STI? The car runs LOCKSTEP with everything in its catagory. Its more effort than the last gen Mazdaspeed3... Its got Honda beat against the Civic hatch for the U.S or U.K... VW... is eh. Who else sells.. a compact hatch, with paint and power with a current option list for cheaper (thats also worth a damn)?
Matt, you don't need to convince anyone on this one. This is a proper super nice car. You have enough knowledge and experience about cars to know what you were doing on acquiring this one. I would also take this car over many other ones. Ford has come a long way when it comes to the ride quality. I am pretty sure that the WRX does not feel solid and quiet like this. I took a well equipped Fusion 2.0 Ecoboost for a 1500 km spin a few years ago and my daily (which is a regular normal car) felt like crap when I drove it back. Enjoy! :-)
Matt, Ford has a school for Focus ST owners (not sure about RS). You can learn handbrake turns there and never have to worry about turning radius again. :D

It's too bad that Ford, Chevy, and Dodge stopped sedan/car production. The SRT4 was an amazing vehicle and now that the Focus RS is done, there is nothing to fill the void of compact performance cars. Great review.

Twin scroll turbos need equal length headers, that's why the new WRX and older JDM STi's don't have the rumble. The rumble you're hearing is just the exhaust noise being isolated in each header, which to me sounds just as good.
It's totally worth the money! I have a beaten 1st gen Focus 1.8 and it still is ripping the canyons, i have hunted down SLK's in twisty roads and Audi A3's and Focus is normal and a lot weaker that these cars but the grip is amazing, even for the 1st gen!
I had an allocation for the RS but had a change of heart and bought an M235i. I have no regrets 😉. RS looks like a solid performer though... Congrats..!
p.s. Ford's website states that the 350hp rating is based on 93 octane. the ST's HP figure is also using 93 octane. Kinda explains the dyno hp differences between owners

My wrx sti is. 4000rpm , gtr is. 4000rpm , evo is 4000 rpm . Only the ej257 are Before 4000rpm

my stock mustang is rated for 300 at the crank and it's dynoed at 271 at wheels

I must say, besides the seats, the interior looked rather boring but that's fine. You don't buy a car like that for a cool interior anyways. Looking forward for more videos! +TheSmokingTire intake valve coking is a major issue on all GDI aka gas direct injection cars. I have this issue with my non st ford focus and I installed a catch can system and cleaned out my intake, throttle body and intake valves of nasty carbon build up.

Biggest criticism of V1 is that it goes off too much, but you just deactivate X and K band which takes 1 minute and it shuts up unless it's an actual cop. It's a very impressive piece of hardware.

"Boy Racer", LOL. I'm 46 and would drive this car with pride and not even think about some mid life crisis thing. This car is all about the drive and seems to jail it based on reviews, like the one Matt posted here. Does it have a wing, sure, is the front end aggressive, absolutely but the way it's done is very tasteful and purposeful.
These negative comments is why you hear so many comments like "Europe always gets the good stuff, why don't we?" Then Ford "tries" with cars like the Merkur, Contour SVT and Focus SVT and they ended up being half baked efforts (I owned a 2000 Contour SVT brand new so I know what I'm talking about)
Not everyone wants or can have a Mustang GT based off of where they live and how they use a car, so the FoRS fits the bill and gives you a complete driving experience and exclusivity, can't get that with a run of the mill Stang GT....PERIOD!

As a current ST owner, turning radius of ST is horrible as well, I'm not surprised it's not changed. Somebody on the forums mentioned putting wider tires without modifying regular focus wheel well is the reason.

might look stupid, but a lot of cars have them to quiet them down. In direct injection cars, the injectors make a loud sort of clicking sound, and it can be pretty annoying.

Matt, you don't need to convince anyone on this one. This is a proper super nice car. You have enough knowledge and experience about cars to know what you were doing on acquiring this one. I would also take this car over many other ones. Ford has come a long way when it comes to the ride quality. I am pretty sure that the WRX does not feel solid and quiet like this. I took a well equipped Fusion 2.0 Ecoboost for a 1500 km spin a few years ago and my daily (which is a regular normal car) felt like crap when I drove it back. Enjoy! :-)

Matt, Ford has a school for Focus ST owners (not sure about RS).
You can learn handbrake turns there and never have to worry about turning radius again. :D
I traded in my Evo X for a 2017 GT350 because of your review. Best decision ever! Come to think of it, I bought my Fiesta ST for daily driving because of your videos. Ford should probably pay you a commission.

It's too bad that Ford, Chevy, and Dodge stopped sedan/car production. The SRT4 was an amazing vehicle and now that the Focus RS is done, there is nothing to fill the void of compact performance cars. Great review.
Love it! If that is your bag to bring rally cars to the drag strip that's cool but they are built to do so much more than a straight line.
Love the pops and crackles in sport mode not sure if i'd change the exhaust. Guess i'll just have to hear it for myself. Congrats on the purchase Matt!
Twin scroll turbos need equal length headers, that's why the new WRX and older JDM STi's don't have the rumble. The rumble you're hearing is just the exhaust noise being isolated in each header, which to me sounds just as good.
It's totally worth the money! I have a beaten 1st gen Focus 1.8 and it still is ripping the canyons, i have hunted down SLK's in twisty roads and Audi A3's and Focus is normal and a lot weaker that these cars but the grip is amazing, even for the 1st gen!
I had an allocation for the RS but had a change of heart and bought an M235i. I have no regrets 😉. RS looks like a solid performer though... Congrats..!
p.s. Ford's website states that the 350hp rating is based on 93 octane. the ST's HP figure is also using 93 octane.
