Ukrainian drones crash into Russian cameras on rooftop in Kherson

- A UKRAINIAN kamikaze drone targeted a Russian modern surveillance equipment installed on top of an industrial building outside Hola Prystan, Kherson Oblast, the Ukrainian military announced on Monday, May 22.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said a Russian “Ironiya” modern surveillance system, including a thermal imager, a rangefinder, and a video camera, had been destroyed by drone pilots with the Special Operations Forces (SOF). The equipment had helped Russian forces track Ukrainian personnel and equipment in the area, they said.
Footage captured by a camera mounted on the drone and released by the SOF shows the drone approaching the equipment on roof of a building at a state-owned grain mill west of Hola Prystan. The next shot, captured by another camera a short distance from the mill, shows an explosion on the rooftop. The moment of impact is not visible.
Storyful could not independently confirm if the equipment seen in the video is an “Ironiya” surveillance system, nor whether it was destroyed.

Mounting the tech sophisticated Russian camera system on top the highest building around a flat area without any sort of effort to camouflage to hid it is just like putting a Russian flag on top of the building; the Ukrainians are going to notice it and target it.
UA will search for similar mistakes on top of buildings.

Yea, but you really can't hide that kind of big cameras. Small cameras I can see you doing that. But they are going to know anyway who is spying with their cameras. Russians should have mobile armored cars with telescoping camera to see the battle field, but I guess someone took all that money.

As someone that builds drones and flys FPV ill say this, that was a really nice landing, Ukraines drone army is particularly impressive🏴🇺🇦
What's equally impressive is the very high resolution of the kamikaze's camera. Clear image up until the last second so you could see what was being hit.
As someone who identifies as a drone.(yes, that was sarcasm) Drones these days are pretty easy to fly and land.. They didn't land it, they crashed it into something. But hey, you got to connect with them by saying "as someone who"
@@TheMosinCrate the landing bit was sarcasm and these are not your DJI's but custom frames built to do the job, there's a difference cos they aren't really meant to land , they are single use, Ukraine has used an inexpensive technology to great effect.

@@WhatTheFunK. and if can fly it, pretty much yes :D it literally is called piloting because of raw controls, unlike other drones where processor does the piloting for you and you just give it commands to fly forward, back, up, down etc.. ;)

The thing that was destroyed is TPN-1NDO thermal device. It costs approximately $35000.
against maybe 500 dollars for the FPV custom built mini-quad - sounds like a great return on investment!

You find Russian videos on telegram. Standing over captured Ukrainian positions or destroyed Ukrainian vehicles. Russian military is tough on cellphone use so there's less content. There's no denying a lot of Ukrainian soldiers have been killed.

I'm very impressed by the Ukraines ability to adapt and retool "box store" items i.e. drones into combat weapons. That's thinking outside the box, no pun intended, at its best.

Excellent. Double drone attack. Assassin and the observer. Destruction confirmed. However, for larger and armored targets, Ukraine needs the equivalent of the Soviet Lancet. Faster, more explosive to target, killing tanks and personnel without the employment of 155mm artillery.

That is a substantial structure. It must be something quite important to russia if Ukraine is targetting it. Appears to be multi-million dollar building belonging to a Ukrainian citizen or corporation. They wouldn't be targetting it if it wasn't going to hit the russians hard.

it's not the building but the camera. that camera is sophisticated system of spying and automatic target detection for the army. hitting it is like making ruzzians blind in 10 km area.
They are targeting the thermal cameras/sensors that are on top of the building that cost 10s of thousands, probably more.

They should block out the Fly Minutes information, knowing it took 8 minutes 32 seconds Russian forces may be able to get their location if they know the direction it came from and air speed.
