    Thanks so much! I hate soil and could only find information on propagation, not long-term water culture. I grow my plants with old aquarium water.

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci

      They usually do well with aquarium water. Might need to start with mostly plain water and add in the aquarium water. Sometimes the nutrients can be strong in a small vessel if it’s not diluted. In a fish tank a lot of plants also do great. Tysm for watching. 😃😃😃

    Hi Paul. I’m back, just up to the pothos section and remembered the Leca Queen (Nora) saying exactly what you said about growing roots in water before planting into leca or any other medium where semi hydro is involved. Even when you already have roots, the plant does a lot better when some new roots are grown in water first and the old ones die off before being removed. Thanks for a fun video Paul, I enjoyed watching (and commenting).

    Hi Paulie!!! You staying home this Memorial Day? I clipped some plants from folks yards today. All of them were very overgrown out into the street. So I got my clippers and discreetly took a clipping. I almost skipped home but with this humidity the "feels like" temp was 110. Ugh!!! I think the succulents are always my fav. 💚🥰

    Oh Paul, you had me giggling about the Grapto. Interesting that you say your Ruby necklace grew so quickly… I received a free cutting in an order of other cuttings I purchased on eBay. I think I placed my Ruby necklace in damp sphagnum moss and waited forever for a sign of roots, but NOTHING!!! It ended up in the bin as did most of the other cuttings I ordered. You could say my success rate for that bunch of cuttings was about 10%. Very disappointing, I still have the dischidia ruscifolia in water but several moths down the track, also NOTHING!!, UGH!

    • @paultheplantparent2702

    Hello Paul, thank you for your excellent videos. Everyday I learn more. Can I place a donkey tail in water? I have lost it 3 times...can the fertilizer be added every month or when the water is changed? thank you for your generous help.

      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci +1

      They can grow well in water for a long time. Just let any cuts dry out a couple of days before placing in water. Fertilizer isn’t as big a deal. They seem to do great even without any. 😃👍🏼

    Paul, I have used yarn and I mostly use small lava rock mixed with a little pearlite and leca. The vast majority of my plants are in semi-hydro now. But, I had a thought: I love to root in wet sphagnum and then wash it off to put the plants in semi-hydro. Have you tried keeping plants in sphagnum and setting them up as semi-hydro? Since they do so well when rooting, I'm wondering if they would last long term?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci

      Hey Dominic. I’ve tried that. The moss got really waterlogged when I tried that. Using a wick helped a little, but I had the most success when I treated the moss like soil. Aroids love it. 😃👍🏼🪴

    Hi Paul! Have you tried putting ferns in water culture? I'm especially interested in the Crispy Wave Japanese Fern. I'd like to try it! For some reason, water culture makes me feel more confident as a newish plant parent. Something about soil makes me nervous. It makes no sense! Thanks so much for your videos!

      Hello there. I haven’t kept many ferns, but I know someone that grows hers completely waterlogged and it seems to be happy as can be. If you experiment with it, I’d love to hear how it goes. So many things can go wrong with soil plants indoors. I’ve probs let had every one of those happen to me. I just try to make my life easier and the plants happier and healthier. Thank you so much. I tried water culture, but very soon lots of algae grow. How do you control algae?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci

      Sometimes I get algae. I just rinse out the base it’s in and clean off the roots. Could be too much fertilizer and/or too much light getting into the base. Material or paper covering can help with that.

    Can all succulents be put in water culture?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I haven’t tried every kind of succulent yet but so far sedum, graptopetalum, echeveria, kalanchoe, aloes and sansevieria/dracaena do well, as long as they’ve had time to heal/dry before putting in water. In my experience. 😊🪴
