put this to your description
I am a simple man. I see a high-quality video, i like it
i just discovered this channel. subscribed immediately.
very professional comparisson ... muchas gracias
What if you put Noctua fans on it? It'd be really interesting to see if the performance difference comes from the fans or the heatsink.
Yep fan blade style and fan speed make a huge difference.
not much of a difference, its more to do with the front of the case, design of front fascia/dust filter that will have more to do with the performance than the actual blades. GamerNexus Steve has a video on air cooling, production, variables, laws of thermodynamics, etc, u know....stuff like that.
Okay, this video has done it. I'm definitely getting this. As I already have the mount cuz of DeepCool Captain AIO, Its just a quick swap and less to do. Thanks for the great video!
Can you do the NH-D15 test with one fan vs two fans and also one fan in the other position? Thank you.
Will DeepCool send you free mounting kits like Noctua has been doing for years when a new socket comes out?
Good question! Will have to ask them that.
@@HardwareScientist Did they already answer?
Can you also have a video explaining the aircoolr vs wattage thing? I keep seeing new aircoolers have a wattage on them. How do I know if an air cooler is a good fit for something? Thanks a lot enjoyed it thoroughly
Does the deepcool leave room for a gpu in the top pci slot (on an matx motherboard)? Your shot at 3:33 makes it look like the fan clips at least would be in contact with the backplate.
Great video! I am waiting for the black Noctua review :)
Check it out here: czcams.com/video/JtWr15on6OU/video.html
@@HardwareScientist thanks!
are you gonna do best AIO next? budget, mid range and high end
Which cpu paste did you use in your tests?
I'd love to see the Assassin3 vs. Noctua using the same fans. I suspect that the results would be pretty much identical.
I discovered another cooler you should test: Reeven Okeanos. It performs better than the NH-D15
model only your cabinet at the end?
Why did you test it against the single fan Noctua NH-D15S
What’s the ambient temperature???
You should add one more to the list of testing: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B
He should take a look at the Scythe Fuma 2.
Even the name is better then the Noctua ;) NHD15, too bad it doesnt come with RGB at 100 dollars. Great video, keep them coming...
can you compare against the Zalman CNPS20X? kitguru has it outperforming the NH-D15 by 2-6 degrees. very suspect.
Yeah I would like to test that one, but I don't think it's available to the public yet.
I bought both the nh-d15.chromax.black and the Assassin 3 from Amazon. I'm going to wait for the Hardware Scientist's review of the chromax, to determine which one I keep and install in my pc upgrade, and which one i send back. How soon will you have that review??
The NH-D15 black review will come in couple weeks.
Hey man just wanted to let you know the chromax.black review has been delayed for a bit, but I've already tested it and would definitely recommend the Assassin III over it.
@@HardwareScientist wait so are you saying there is a difference between the NH-D15 & the NH-D15 chromax black? i was going to buy the black one, but if you say its worse then ill get the original one.
correct me if im wrong, the chart seems to be:
1) NH-D15
2) assassin 3
3) NH-D15 chromax
right?
@@0cards0 If i'm right after seeing a test from LTT, peinting will have slight impact on cooling performance cause it make it harder for the heat to be dicipated
We are living at an incredible time. Also, am I the only person alive who thinks noctua coolers look better than everything else?
yes you are
I think Noctua coolers look great... without the brown fans.
They look awesome. Even in brown they look great...at least on their own 😉
If looks were important i wouldn't have bought the NH-D15, but the Assassin III looks fairly comparable... buy when discounted if you need a decent cooler. :-)
Your graph indicates D15s can achieve the lowest temp with highest fan speed, this has not be shown by other reviewers. Actually the 185w consumption comparison is more realistic since people doing overclocking really care about this number. I have Deepcool Lucifer v2 but I use push/pull arctic p12. My delta is 61C when running 190w occt small data set test. I couldn’t find useful information on that so this would be useful if anyone wants a reference.
at high power draw it loses consistently to the NH-D15. with even a 2700x higher higher power draw than the highest tested, I'd much more heavily weight that result. no surprise high end CPUs are only differentiated by high end power draw, which is the only situation in which they're needed.
Looks like Deepcool hit a home run with this cooler. Here, it is $10 cheaper than the Noctua NH-D15 and is most importantly not ugly. Yes, you can get those Chromax kits but it will set you back $20 more which will further differentiate the price. This is hands down the best air cooler you can get right now (except if you don't care about the looks at all, it's a tie).
I'd still go for the Noctua as we know their fans last a lifetime. Not sure with DeepCool.
No, it is not, when Fuma 2 performs about the same, produces less noise and is cheaper.
Would this fit in a Aerocool mechatron x mid tower case?
Check the dimensions of it at the website and measure with your case
as far as looks are concerned i think nothing beats the chromax noctuas once you factor the heatsink covers, especially if you're looking to make a B&W builds.
real shame about the overall price.
Probably never worth it to push its fans above tier 4, if you are bench-marking a different cooler would be cooler and quieter, and if you were running normally it gets much louder for about a 1 degree drop. Great vid as always!
how do i know whether the 95w or the 185w slide is rellevant to me? (im thinking of getting the 3900x or the 3950x, probably the former, for gaming & editing sometimes, i dont overclock)
For video encoding you might go over 95w. The rest of your usage sounds like 95w or below.
@@HardwareScientist i see, thanks.
I bought this cooler for my Ryzen 9 3950x. And it at idle or just watching CZcams videos. Keeps at about 30/35ish degrees. Rendering at at our 60/65ish degrees. Doing harder tasks as simulations on Houdini XD. Longer times can make it reach between 75/85 degrees. Sometimes rarely 91 since my room is locked without no air cooling.
Philosophical Mind but after 91 it kicks down quickly back to 75/85ish
Mirror finish now with extra face reveal!
the assasin 3 is 20 dollars cheaper than the dark rock pro 4, this is in Canada at Canada Computers.
How would it work on a 2700x?
Should work great.
Worth pointing out that the D15 and D15S have the Chromax covers available and black Chromax fans. Looks fantastic all black.
Yes I will be reviewing the black NH-D15 soon!
Where is the chromax comparisons
D15s looks like it's the winner. At only $80 it beats the $100 Assassin at 185W load. IOW, where it really matters.
NH-D15S is very nice, but it comes in dead last in appearance. Assassin III is for those who want something that performs well and looks good too.
@@HardwareScientist I spend ZERO time looking at my heat-sink after installing it.
Depends on which coolers are included in the review. I'll go Scythe Fuma 2 over all mentioned coolers in this review. Performance/price/ease of installation wise, the D15s is an overpriced slouch against the Fuma 2. It's even the only dual tower cooler that I know that allows you to install it with the middle fan already mounted.
It would be nice to have tested this unit with the three fans (i.e. an extra fan added to the rear).
Just checked the website,
Assassin III have good design and all but weird fan blade design,
maximum 1400RPM but it have noise of 34dba
Maybe it's fan blade design fault?
for just max 1400rpm that thing loud
But for that price tag,
Well
🙁
That was a blow for be quiet
The Assassin III is $100? It's $78 in my country 😂 cheaper than any Noctua NH D15 which is around $85.
Jesus bless you... thank you for everything!
if they are all within the margins of error how can it be said that any are the winner?
Is 1 degree worth $10? I do not see how you can place this above the others, unless it is on your personal views and not facts
Assassin III's big advantages come from its compatibility and appearance.
@@HardwareScientist the S version from Noctua has more compatibility and other reviewers noted that the S gave the same temps as the standard Noctua, even with one fan less.
@@LDWilliams True the S version is quite nice. My top picks for high-end coolers are the Assassin III and the NH-D15S.
@@HardwareScientist appearance is relative...not an important criterion. i like d15 for ex
I bought this one for my ryzen 9 3950x
I bought this one for my ryzen 9 3900x
i will be buying this one for my ryzen 9 3900xt
How's the cooler for you guys? I'm getting this one for my 3900x.
black noc still looks better, specially with the heat sink covers
It seems they copied successful Noctua nh15 series
I may have to try this. I tried the Cryorig H7 and Scythe Mugen 5 on my R5 3600 and it runs hot compared to my 8700K. Idle it runs at 45-65C. Gaming it goes as high as75C compared to my 8700K gaming at 67C.
JayzBeerz thermalright true spirit 140 gets mine to 35-38 or so idle (msi mortar mb). Make sure you updated mb bios though, and that you use the amd software to measure, seems it throws other software off and shows too high temps
nice review as always :)
I use this cooler on FX-8320 :p
www.idcooling.com/Product/detail/id/124/name/SE-207
mmm I am not convinced this is a better cooler just one with faster/louder fans allow me to explain, lets pick apart the graph either one @5:35 or 9:30 both are consistent
so we see under low fan setting the cooler outperforms, but isn't that just because the min fan RPM is faster. it would explain why it doesn't throttle at min setting. you can see that the other coolers are even cooler when their fans reach the same RPM as the Deepcool.
Deepcools performance in this may even be supplemented with a more dense fin stack allowing for better dissipation at low rpm
But looking at the high settings part of the graph we see that the deep cool is running much higher speeds without yielding better performance, because of the thermal resistance. Either in how the heat pipes interface with the IHS {may not be direct contact or in how the fins might not be soldered on or the heat-pipes themselves. ether way we see the cooler reaching thermal saturation much sooner than with the other coolers meaning that heat is not transferring as efficiently into the cooler or that the cooler has reached max dissipation.
anyone els have any ideas?
I think it is a problem when he shows noise and fan speed as the same variable.
Sure is purdy
Its a draw. sometimes it beats the NH-15 sometimes it dont. + overall louder
at high power draw it loses consistently. with even a 2700x higher higher power draw than the highest tested, I'd much more heavily weight that result. no surprise high end CPUs are only differentiated by high end power draw, which is the only situation in which they're needed.
Wakamex I’m using it with at 3950x
it's too loud for me
This Deepcool Asassin III cooler has important design failure. As of now, it cannot be mounted on Asus x570-I Strix motherboard because of provided oversized plastic backplate mounting support.
It gets it a way of VRM heatsink and some integrated circuits that Asus placed on back side of motherboard.
Unlike Noctua, which can reuse stock motherboard backplate - they designed own backplate that has non-threaded holes (for their own screws) making it impossible to reuse stock motherboad mounting support.
Customer support (Chinese, so some language barrier) did ackowledge the problem but they suggested me to remove the heatsink and try mounting it again... so I returned it.
Check your motherboard for compatibility. If you have some heatslink or surface mounted elements near the cooler mounting holes on the back side of motherboad - forget it.

So it performs worse than competition while being more expensive?
No thanks, Fuma 2 already kills it, Thermalright Frost Spirit 140 will massacre it.
