Accept for the part where this scene is massively unrealistic given their age difference. The adults always win in a real fight. But in the books they were closer in age if I’ve heard correctly. I get why the how runners would do this though, these are real swords, and having two kids try to fake fight will cause trouble. So it’s better to not show it and have the loser be an adult so he can properly fake dying and any potential harm is avoided. I think changed the sword to a dagger to give the kid a somewhat realistic chance of winning. But still, I see this as highly unrealistic

The Blackwoods are badasses! The Three Eyed Raven, Bloodrave (Brynden Rivers) was a Targaryen/Blackwood bastard, and definitely the greatest of all the Great Bastards. They could base a whole new series based on him. He served as Hand of the King to Maester Aemon's father and grandfather, and traveled with Aemon to join the Knight's Watch (escorted by Duncan the Tall) before becoming Commander of the Night's Watch himself. He put down the first three Blackfyre rebellions, and slew the first, second and third Blackfyre Pretenders; Daemon and his two eldest sons (he litterally killed each son seconds after killing Daemon in succession after they both picked up their father's sword, Blackfyre, and declaring themselves heir to the Iron Throne (side-note, Blackfyre of Aegon the Conqueror's sword, while Bloodraven wielded its literal sister-blade belonging to Aegon's sister-wife Visenya; Dark Sister, ). He was the bitter rival of his half-brother, Bittersteel, who was also a Bracken and the founder of the Golden Company - and they were both also in love with Lady Shiera Seastar (their half-sister, and canonically the sexiest Targaryen chick who ever lived), but she chose Bittersteal as her Paramour. Aegon V's wife was also a Blackwood. And since his heir married his sister, that would make his heir and Aegon's grandson Aerys, the Mad King, as well as Daenerys half Blackwood. I hope we get more of the Blackwoods in the books. I'm mad we didn't get their plot against the Brackens in the show like with Jaime's story in the books. Loved this kid. He's got a lot of courage for doing his duty to his house. Hated how disrespectful Rhaenyra was despite his age. Thought she'd understand a kid trying to prove himself much like her own experience as the heir. Like the saying goes, you can judge a person best by how they treat others when they have nothing to gain, and if that's the case then Rhaenyra would make a queen of very poor character. That aside, most of the people in Westeros think of lesser lords as voiceless lackeys and smallfolk as ants, so perhaps Rhaenyra isn't even worse off than any other lord. I mean we saw how little of a shit Viserys or anyone else gave about the actual sailors being murdered and fed to crabs in the Stepstones, or the knights who got their skulls caved in at the tourney. Not to overthink shit but yeah. Every noble in this show is kind of a shit human being. But that's pretty standard for nobility.
Absolutely agree with you. It slightly irritates me that everyone overlooked this scene as cutie pie Rhaenyra being funny or as "the Blackwoods vs the Brackens" thing. It really shows how much of a narcissistic self centered twat Rhaenyra is, she couldn't care less for her bannermen let alone her subjects, she used her own personal guard to satisfy her sexual desires, she's just selfish, childish, uncaring, aloof and an absloute tool. You could see it all in the episode not just this scene, how Daemon easily manipulated her, how she begged Alicent to believe her, how she lies to her father. Idk If the showrunners are foreshadowing how much of a terrible unfit ruler she will be, I already know the story and I know how terrible will she be anyways but hopefully the showrunners are not like D&D, they used to glorify Daenerys even when she did horrible things, hopefully they actually understand Rhaenyra and how GRRM portrayed her in his books, because many of the fans are already dimwitted enough, busy drooling over Rhaenyra, muh queen and bending their knees already. The point of the Dance of the dragons is to show you that both sides were equally horrid, about how someone's absolute hunger and lust for power literally blinded them from using this very power wisely. Rhaenyra reminded me of Cersei a bit in this scene, she liked how rude Braken was to Blackwood, enjoying cruelty over kindness, and she put her own pleasures over duty. It is clear she doesn't want the throne or has the best intentions (or any at all), and it would've made sense for her just to give it to someone who can be groomed to be king/queen, regardless of whom her father bore children with. So happy for this scene, I'm glad they gave us some of Blackwood-Bracken beef. Also, this scene reminded me a lot of Quentyn Martell's proposal, Rhaenyra's response was a lot like Dany's. Also a sad reminder of how much D&D removed from FFC and DWD...
This scene is called out a lot for its dark humor, but to me it shows how unfit Rhaenyra was to be the royal heir. She mocks her suitors, never minding that the strength of her dynasty depends on the loyalty of their families. She mocks Willem before he is able to speak a word, even though she has no way yet to judge his character or intentions. She remains super smug when told about his family's history and influence and reputation. Furthermore, she does not call for decorum when Jerrel Bracken starts trolling Willem's public proposal. This undermines the basic dignity of the proceedings, and also drives worsening tensions between the two families. Finally, she joins in the laughter at Jerrel's disrespectful jokes, emboldening him to call Willem a "craven," as he turns to leave. At this point, Willem can't not retaliate without losing face. It's one thing to be graceful when disrespected by Rhaenyra, but he can't allow this from Jerrel. Rhaenyra contributed to Jerrel's death in this scene, weakened her kingdom, and turned down a suitor who would have been more loyal to her than her uncle. With leadership like this, it's not shocking that the Targaryens went all but extinct in the few generations following this.

But it would be cool to see them play a more important role, especially since not only is the Three Eyed Raven a Blackwood, but technically they are Daenerys' closest blood relatives - apart from her nephews.

Rhaenyra stans are in for a very delicious treat If the shows follows the books.
@@leplus1 also he didn't want to be king, which says alot really, Alicent just managed to persuade him by telling what Rhaenyra would do to him and his siblings. Later we find out that the kid was some sort of x commando he killed 16 knights of the vail single handedly
he was an interior decorator!
This killing is entirely Rheanera's fault. She arrogantly dismissed a young boy from a household that could be a much needed sword and then sided with his bully and then left the area uninterested in watching the conflict she started. I'm pretty certain, though I haven't read the book that House Blackwood will be firmly in Queen Allicent's camp.
Or maybe the kid could grow thicker skin and learn to take a joke
Nope they support Rhaenrya 🖤
@@JREALE Fail.

Interestingly enough, the Blackwoods were among Rhaenyra's most steadfast allies to the bitter end..
I'm pretty sure this little conflict was started by the Bracken when he started insulting House Blackwood....
And that Blackwood kid's descendant is going to be running the Seven Kingdoms. That descendant, Brydon Rivers, aka Bloodraven, aka, The Three-Eyed Raven
in the books, that bracken guy is alive though, and the rivalry between the families peaked in their generation
Even more so than with Bloodraven and Bittersteel?
What? this feud been going on for thousand of years...
i wouldn't say it peaked, its still an issue during the War of the Five Kings and becomes a problem Jaime has to mop up in the aftermath.
This ain’t the books bish. And in the books season 6,7,8 never happened. Go comment.
Or it's a different Bracken. Samwell was the one who dueled in the Books.
who came up with the idea of putting a blackwood and a braken so close, their mutual hatred goes so far as to continue fighting each other even when they forgot which of them was the one who started the fight, it's no joke and nobody remembers which of the two houses start the conflict and they don't even care anymore
He is by no means a craven he just wanted to keep things civil in front of the Princess.
I have to say I love the sheer audacity of this kid.
Ah! Blackwood vs Bracken, an age old affair! Culminating in the real battle of the bastards.
Bloodraven vs Bittersteel.
Both their legacies endured
Definitely gonna be a top 10 moment of the series 😭
He swore he would protect then proved he would not back down from a challenge.
I laughed my ass off when Willem killed Jerrel.🤣
Same. Shit was hilarious 😂
Not only did the kid win that duel, he won it pretty quickly
I'm not sure how Rhaenerya's irresponsibility is responsible for the Mad King's action which led to the Rebellion.
Mad respect for the two actors that performed their own sword fight...
the kid might not have gotten the princess' hand, but he sure as hell became the future Lord of House Blackwood after this
"Fuck around and find out" -Said Willem Blackwoods Sword, House of the Dragon.
Blackwood- "Shouldn't have fucked with me". 🤷🏾♂️
fookin legend
Great clip! That was a classic scene, and a classic killing. Never underestimate your enemy.
The actor of Jerrel's father as he desperately holds his dying son is underappreciated.
I heard someone get stabbed, and knowing how this world goes I was 100% positive the kid had just been killed. Cheered out loud when they cut to him opening that dude up
You never know when you're messing with the wrong guy.
Thank you to whatever great soul had the idea to upload just this short scene. Watched it back literally 400 times
Lol same!
The Blackwoods are the most badass house!
Most of the Targaryens have Blackwood blood.
And then there's Bloodraven: - Bane of Bittersteal. Hand of the King. Wielder of Dark Sister. Lover of Lady Shiera Seastar. Slayer of the first, second and third Blackfyre pretenders - all in the same battle within a few seconds of each other. Commander of the Night's Watch. And the Three Eyed Raven who trained Brandon Stark.
not most of! we know 70+ Targaryen characters but only Jahaerys 2nd, Bloodraven, Shaera, Mad King, Rhaegar, Dany, Viserys, Rhaelle, Rhaella, Duncan, Daeron and Faegon Targaryen have Blackwood blood and let us not forget if Jon's father is Rhaegar that means Jon have too... btw Renly, Robert, Stannis, Gendry and Shireen, and Steffon Baratheon have too bcz their grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen
