The Disappointment PC series is a super fun way for us to reset and recalibrate our expectations as reviewers and consumers, because it forces us to look at a year's worth of the worst products. We already posted a bunch of Best Of round-ups, so now we need to look back and cherish the moments of complete and utter let-down from each of the big PC companies. This past year began with hope as cryptomining collapsed and released its deathgrip on GPU prices, only to give way to a newfound AI obsession from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel that ultimately began re-driving some of those prices back up. We also got to witness the pure hubris required to launch a 16GB RTX 4060 Ti for $500 and target it at "1080p gaming," perhaps challenged only by ASUS' best efforts to blame the customer when CPUs exploded in their motherboards. And of course, our thanks to Intel for sneaking its Snake Oil meme in right before the end of the year.
Your support on these projects -- even just watching and sharing with friends -- allows us to keep doing what we do, and we enjoy starting the year fresh with a fun project. Enjoy, everyone! And thank you for all your support in 2023. We hope you have a great year and look forward to serving you more reviews in 2024!

Keep up the amazing work as always man 🔥🔥
I was probably going to order this year's Disappointment shirt anyway (regret not buying the past ones!) but definitely love the 2023 design.
As an AI and news obsessed person I just knew I had to have this one; still watching the video, but the intro and meme bits are cracking me up 😁. Ordered the heather version. Thanks, Steve! 😎
Best one yet. Cant wait for more dissapointments in 2024
I really love the educational tours! Best insight into the process.
"A self collapsing tesseract of bullshit" - Steve just summed up the entirety of the gaming, software and hardware market of the year 2023!
No. He summed up the entirety of 2023
Gaming in 2023 is bullshit? What a take.
This was a pretty good year I thought lol
@@kristophersouza8104right. One of the best years ever for games
@@cdurkinz yeah, same
Let me just say, I don't care how much this intro cost to make. This was one of the best things you guys have produced from an "artistic" stand point. As someone who comes here solely for the facts, cut and dry exactly as is...this was actually REALLY nice and cool. I don't know whose idea this was, but some more creative freedom like this moving forward would be great to see!
Yes yes yes! I second this
I third this!
I fourth this.

I hope that it was the cooked 7800x3d
This is the one tech channel that has kept on improving, stayed true to its values and continues to amaze us with their established scientific methods. This is the channel that I can still trust on being accurate, true, and if I'm being honest, this channel is the main focus in the tech world where even companies take notice to what you say. Thank you for keeping up with the news, releases and content up until now, and have a great rest of the new year!
Thank you so much for the extremely kind words of encouragement!
This is the channel that I can still trust on being accurate and more importantly, this is the channel to own up to it and be honest and transparent in case something goes wrong and they do release something inaccurate or false.
Jays2cents probably too but they are more of a build/unboxing/showcase channel than a real benchmarking/tech channel.
Igor put way to much into Pascal with and his flawed fan results but had to backpedal, correct and apologize which he did, also a goat. I didn't like his early assumptions on 12VHPWR fires/meltdowns either but seeing how 12VHPWR is still a mess, even if he was only half right, he was one of the first to shine a light on the issue. LMG and their unboxing lab are a joke anyways and Linus himself is a businessman, not a geek anymore and it shows.
GN is still GOAT, time to order some stuff from the shop I guess!
@@jonasduell9953he’s not paying you
@@jonasduell9953 what I find it funny is how no one seems to notice or care how GN will rightfully criticize Nvidia for their recent products but still make marketing segments for them like when speaking with their thermal engineer. It's all marketing from here because GN is a for-profit group. Inherently, due to the nature of this dark world works, there's always going to be that thin veil of looking after the audience but it's going to cost us.
@@BleedForTheWorld I totally understand your point but compare their sponsored ads for e.g. cases, they mention that the case "had scored high" or "received a positive review" during their last tests.
Same with visiting an engineer be it Intel or Nvidia. Publicizing how much development, tech and thought goes into modern air cooling solutions is - at least in my books - totally different than mindlessly repeating mandated points of sale off of a teleprompter in a prewritten ad like most channels do.
And while those visits, excursions, collaborations with Kingpin, you name it seem advertisement, I actually doubt that GN really has a big benefit. A techquickie LMG style with 2 sponsored and 2 youtube ads would be faster, less effort and more money without ever leaving the studio.
And those engineers are good guys, while obviously working for the big corpos, they have no say about market scheming, scalping, false advertisement, unfair behavior. They try to make good stuff, why not give them a platform.
That intro deserves all the awards. That was amazing.
Therapist : Is the disappointment pc in the room with us?
Me : THEY"RE EVERYWHERE RUN FUCJKERS RUN AADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I just want to say, "Thanks Steve" and team for a great year of content, it really helped me in a new build this year!
Pun intended 😂
"Back to you, Steve"
Thanks for another year of amazing quality and awesome PC tech journalism!
Thank you for the kind words! We're hard at work to start this year off strong as well!
@@GamersNexusGreat vid GN! My 7950x3D blew up a couple days after my build back in April… you even offered to buy it for research but I had already RMAed it. In the end I didn’t lose anything but 24 hours of gaming. On a side note I didn’t expect the $1600 4090 I purchased to be $2400 now. I thought GPU price inflation was over? Happy New Year!
And pure editing gold! Thanks Steve and Team : )
Every time I start to fall away from the PC space, this "Disappointment PC Build" series seems to get me right back into the groove of watching tech CZcamsrs.
This.
I'm convinced he carries the 4090 like a key chain
Just bought the disappointment tour shirt. Still have the 2018 version. My wife laughed afterwards, when I was wearing it, and she saw Steve wearing it too. "Hey! That's your shirt!" she exclaimed. I said "How weird is that?" She had no idea I bought it here. 😁
Hahaha, that's awesome. Love that story!
I love these vids. Wish the team had more time to do goofy shiz.
It's a fun way for us to explore the creative side in between the reviews!
@@ts757arse What do you mean... did you watch the video? This one was more creative than what they usually do, with the skits, and cool cinematography. Yeah sure, ChatGPT did the research for their videos as well.
@@ts757arseI do not appreciate the joke

Great way to close out the year. GN should be proud of the work and service to the consumer for helping keep objective reporting a priority in the industry, instead of affiliate sponsored/driven video content. I will be continuing my Patreon and viewer support for the foreseeable future. As a final note you may find good to know: your latest memory manufacturing video was informative and entertaining. My wife normally wouldn't care about such content, but as she works in manufacturing she enjoyed both the editing and your excellent coverage of the process. Best of luck in 2024 from us in West Virginia.
Thanks for sharing! We're hoping those videos are interesting to a wider audience!
Props to the editor. This video was paced amazingly and the cuts up the humor.
Holy crap. I commented in 2022 dissapointment build to release the 2023 now.... and you guys just did it.. thanks steve.
That was all we needed to be convinced it was time!
Thanks Steve.

@@GamersNexus Back to you Steve. :)
$500 for 1080p gaming is still insane. the 7800XT is around $500 and it's for lower-FPS 4k gaming (and is the one i'm planning on putting in my 1440p build)
I had a 1070 and I upgraded to a 4070 and I upgraded my CPU and mobo with a z790 and a 13700k and I recently dipped in 4k gaming and I am hoping I can get a 4080 super I hope there is Founders edition
@@thealien_ali3382i would recommend the 7900XTX for 4k. Or the XT. Especially with those amounts of vram. Unless ur only nolifing cyberpunk where you might actually enjoy the 4080 more
its a 1440p card, i have also just bought one, replacing my rtx3060ti. it can do 4k but its not its strong point. but way faster then the rtx3060ti
Dude, that is a 1440p card. Unless you are running maxed out. Ray tracing it in the most demanding AAA games... You will definitely get over 100 FPS if you tweak settings just slightly and can still keep ultra textures and lighting
Even though nvidia for some reason advertised it as such, it really is a 1440p card. It will do it just fine.
I love the factory tours, please keep up that sort of content. Thank you again for an incredible 2023 Steve!
The editing is actually insane in this one. Probably the funniest and most spiteful Disappointment Build special to date.
“Insane” lol you’re easily impressed
I first joined this channel to learn more about the individual parts of computers and understand the difference between all the different kinds of GPU's, Hard Drives, etc. This channel has really taught me a lot. I look forward to learning more from your informative, enjoyable content.
Ahh, what a pleasant surprise to see this morning when I got up! Starting my day with coffee and a GN video is fantastic! You guys slammed this one out of the ballpark, really great editing and cinematography, especially for that intro! That was awesome! I love seeing how you guys have grown year after year with those and the growth is very obvious! This one was especially good, really taking pointers from throughout the year to include, like the ChatGPT and all, it really made it very "2023"! Good job all and, "thanks, Steve!"
Back to you in the studio. But maybe first, take a breather, have a coffee or beer or whatever you all like, and then come back blazing like the big league champs you all are!
I'm sorry, Steve, I'm afraid I can't do that 🤖
it looks like you’re trying to write a GPU review, Would you like help with that??
Your opening cinematic segments each year get better and better.
Thanks for an absolutely amazing year of video content! You guys took tech journalism to another level and it was great to watch. Happy new year GN team.
Thanks for all the hardwork, GN team! This past year I became a subcriber and your videos helped shaped the choices for the build I did this year!
This has been an amazing year for GN as a whole. I love how the team has improved in pretty much all aspects: field expertise, industry areas tackled, editing skills, general entertainment (specially while keeping the information that needs to be presented), and so on.
Granted, none of this is anything "new" per say, since you have been staying in that same development track for years now, but makes me glad to see the channel evolving at it's own pace, in it's own terms.
And it always puts a smile on my face to see Steve flexing those Chinese language skills.
Thank you so much for the very kind words. That's incredibly thoughtful of you to put into writing like that.
Another year of PC memes down, another year to go 😂 thanks guys and God bless! ❤
The memes will continue until products improve!
@@GamersNexus given the inherent nature of most (not all, but most) companies, I think we’ll have a surplus of memes for the foreseeable future lol!

*Thanks Steve!*
Always informative as well as entertaining - learned about tesseracts today 😂
Cheers to a Happy New Year for everyone!
That intro skit was super cinematic! Really enjoyed the whole video. Looking forward to another year of GN content!
Speaking of Mobos, remember when they came with manuals and not just a QR code?
Also Gigabyte decided on my new mobo that all the troubleshooting LEDs (which are ALL red) should be right next to each other. At least my old mobo for my 3770k (from 2012) separated the LEDs and put them next to the component it represented.
My gigabyte one hides them behind the gpu😂
My MSI B550-A Pro I've just bought a month ago has manual.
I remember when video cards came with video cables.
I have an asus z790 mobo and it has a paper manual
Don't you know? You're supposed to shut up and be grateful that our Motherboard overlords are willing to give us debug LEDs at all.
I forgot how absolutely savage GN can be.
His roasts are BRUTAL
I learned so much from you. Love you guys!
Great video! Looking forward to another year of great content from you and your team.
Ah I love these disappointment videos. Bought 4 shirts this time! Thanks Steve & the team!
Thank you Steve & team! Looking forward to another great year.
Another positive is improvement from Arc drivers and also, FINALLY, a new entrant in the 75W GPU space in the form of the 6GB A380 (can be had in half-height as well to give some life to that old Optiplex that's laying around).
to be fair, there was not realy a way for intel, to make the drivers worse...
But will the card require Resizable BAR to perform well? Older optiplexi won't support it.
@@brianmiller1077depends on the game.
I really loved the video with Stone and helping him get the boards. I had classes like his in high school, but not to that level. It was basically the CCNA course over two years. His response when you told him what was happening was great.
Great video like usual, love the content and the production quality has drastically improved over the recent years
Loved this year end recap and esp absolutely loved the Microcenter Shopping episode with Mr Stone.
Loved this and purchased a shirt. I look forward to this video every year, thanks Steve!
No mention of the the 12VHPWR connector debacle, not a consumer issue, still needs to be recalled and changed. My 4080 burnt up with it in fully.
Idk how you do it, but each time the intro gets better! I love these videos so much, I really look forward to it each year.
Thanks Steve!
It's intriguing that GN has not include 12vhpwr connector in the list. That's the biggest fire hazzard of the year and this problem is still pressist even now.
That'd require Steve to admit he was wrong and that's not happening. You'll have tech leakers admit that before him lol.
The connector itself isn't really the Issue it's the fact they are not getting plugged in all the way and the pins aren't making proper contact causing that pin to heat up enough to start Melting the Plastic
@@deltasixgaming you are an idiot if you believed that.
It was already included on the Disappointment 2022 list
@@deltasixgaming The connector itself really IS the core issue. Watch the recent video by der8auer on it.
This is brilliant. Thanks Steve (and team)!
Thank you!
@@GamersNexus Intel: Yeah, thanks, Steve!

I think the terrible design of the 12V HDPWR video card connector deserves a special mention. Low key surprised it hasn't caused a house fire yet.
"asus has the best warranty" out of that printer had me :D
That intro was definitely something to behold, my lord. Keep up the good work, guys!
thank you GN team for a great year of content and information. I look forward to another year of reviews and videos from GN

I've been waiting for this year's disappointment build. I can't justify a modmat or set of tools, but I can always use a shirt. Thanks, Steve.
I always look out for this video each year. It's always a hilarious yet sad part of the year because of how bad some of these points are but I love it.
Thanks for the recap, GN. Your presentations just keep getting better and *better.* 🏆
I think whoever does your video editing should really get a pay raise 😁 (That intro was awesome.)
I'm very excited for you guys in 2024. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻

Thanks for another year of tech goodness and I hope 2024 is even better for you all!
Haven’t even finished the video and I’m already dying 😂😂😂 Thanks Steve!
You all did great work this year for the consumer and industry. ❤
This was hilarious and interesting to watch all the way through. Great intro, too, loved it! Thank you guys for your work, and hope you'll have a good 2024!
Man, fully agree with you on the motherboard diagnostics rant - honestly, it's a huge problem in general product philosophy and law: we need legal rights to repair, including some sort of guideline on designing products such that they can be properly and easily diagnosed, disassembled, and independently repaired, within reasonable technical possibilities. A simple and easy way to diagnose any variety of boot-up problems should be a minimum for any computer (even tablets and notebooks, honestly).
I'd love to see thermal paste/ pad testing. There's so many for sale now that I tend to just stick with two tried and true pastes, but I am curious how the others perform. Especially long term on GPUs as pump out can be quite bad the hotter the dies get.
This would be good. There's a channel that does a lot of this, I believe it's called snarks domain (I think)
It's worth checking out
HELL YEAH! I looks forward to this every year! I just got me 2 of the Disappoint T-Shirts! Now I can't wait to watch the video! Here is to another great year of GN Content! ALL HAIL Tech Jesus and Ocular Moses!

I like where GN is heading. Verity of content is very cool and I really look forward into everything new that appears on channel (instead of just another HW News or performance review). Also, these new intros that continous to appear in videos are just cherry on top.
These intros get better every year. Thanks for another great year of coverage and unfearing journalism.
What an intro! XD
Happy 2024 to Steve, the GN team and PC gamers all over the world!
my new favorite thing about this channel is the snake oil jokes and the all around comedy gold that you guys have been doing more recently. love your channel. the intro for this video was absolutely amazing, I couldn't stop laughing
I bought a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 based on your review, and I am very happy with it so far, decently easy install, my only issue is that it now blocks all the light in my PC so I am thinking of getting an LED strip for the rear of the case :D
Thank you to the entire GN Staff for keeping it real and drama free
Great cooler for not a lot of money.

Awesome content as always. Keep it up!
You need to add disclaimer to your videos that no hardware or AI was harmed during filming as people may get PTSD
Anyone else appreciate how the production values keep going up in GN videos, but they haven’t once turned into generic CZcams clickbait or meme humor? Even their comedy is grounded and higher brow
Never paused/rewound/replayed an intro so many times to get all the chatgpt scripts, bloody brilliant stuff ❤
"Thanks, Steve" never gets old.
Great video! Shout-out to the 4090/4080 power connector also, which is insane.
Yes, that should have been added here too, but somehow GN thinks it was simply user error that GPUs went on fire. No, as I told before: if it's too easy to make a mistake, it's bad design, especially when it comes to a huge safety issue and high GPU prices.
@@SirWolf2018Give it one more amp and the thing burns to a crisp. The safety limit is 51 Amps at 20°C and the 4090 CAN reach 50 Amps (and higher than 20°C, since it's a GPU)
PCI-SIG and Intel are the people who worked on this crap, they honestly deserve all the hate. Nvidia really didn't do anything wrong here by using the standart given to them.
I built a PC a month ago with a an Asus x670e and 7800X3D combo, and a Samsun 990 Pro. The BIOS was well before the big update, too. Hell yeah, cursed parts.

2023 was interesting. Between motherboard voltages & 12VHWPR am happy I went with a 7900XTX and aged 12th gen. BG3 was really good (still is), so 2023 wasn't all bad.
7900x for me and also 7900 xtx and well my 6800xt died a few days before warranty expired but I got the money back right for the start of the 7900xtx and well bg3 is just a masterpiece I own starfield but could never get myself to get past character creation
2023 games for me: BG3, Age of Wonders 4, Mods with a bit of Skyrim
I have to ask: What's the "Build me" written with? Whiteout? Or are ya'll actually crazy enough to use thermal paste for that?
... it was thermal paste, hahahaha
