Leaky Gut Fix: Glutathione and Digestion: Thomas DeLauer
    How Does Glutathione Work?
Glutathione exists within cells in its reduced form (GSH), meaning it has an extra electron.
In the process of neutralizing reactive oxygen species it becomes oxidized (GSSG), but reacts with another oxidized glutathione to become glutathione disulfide. (5, 7)
    What causes glutathione depletion?
    - Our body makes sufficient glutathione to help keep everything running smoothly, however it becomes depleted as a result of extreme stress
    - Stressors include: insulin surges from sugary, high-carb diets, immune aggravation from food intolerances, gut infections, hormonal imbalances, lack of sleep, smoking/drinking and hectic lifestyles
    Glutathione and a Leaky Gut
A low level of liver glutathione is a common occurrence in leaky gut syndrome
Leaky Gut Syndrome is used to describe the condition of “Hyperpermeable Intestines”
A condition that allows all kinds of substances, such as toxins, bacteria and undigested food particles to pass through the junctions in your small intestine and enter your bloodstream
In other words, the intestinal lining has become more permeable (leaky), with more holes developing that are larger in size and the screening out process is no longer functioning properly
    Glutathione May Protect Your Gut
    - Research has shown that glutathione may help improve gut health by decreasing oxidative stress
Case Study #1: Looked at the impairment of intestinal glutathione synthesis in patients with inflammatory bowel disease
    - Study investigated basic amino acid plasma levels and the glutathione status in IBD with an emphasis on intestinal glutathione synthesis in Crohn's disease
    - Reduced glutathione (rGSH) and oxidised glutathione (GSSG) were determined enzymatically in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, red blood cells, muscle, and in non-inflamed and inflamed ileum mucosa.
    Results
    - Abnormally low cysteine and cystine levels were associated with inflammation in IBD
    - Decreased rGSH levels were demonstrated in non-inflamed mucosa and inflamed mucosa in patients with IBD, while GSSG increased with inflammation compared with controls
    Conclusion
    - Decreased activity of key enzymes involved in glutathione synthesis accompanied by a decreased availability of cysteine for glutathione synthesis contribute to mucosal deficiency in IBD
    - Glutathione deficiency might be a target for therapeutic intervention in IBD. (8)
Case Study #2: Looked at the antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation in small intestinal mucosa of children with celiac disease
    - Activities of antioxidant enzymes and the levels of glutathione and lipid hydroperoxides were measured in samples of small intestinal biopsies from 39 children with different forms of the disease and in 19 control subjects
    Results
    - Activities of analyzed enzymes varied significantly between the examined groups
    - An increase in the activities of superoxide dismutase was observed in patients with active and silent celiac disease, while the activities of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase and the glutathione content were significantly reduced
    - The level of lipid hydroperoxides was significantly elevated in these groups (9)

Slippery Elm Bark (Powder) + L-Glutamine (Powder) resolves / assists with most digestive issues including leaky gut, ulcers, inflammation, IBS etc . Slippery Elm soothes and protects the digestive track, reducing inflammation and associated pain. While L-Glutamine assists in repairing the intestinal lining (among other things, look it up). Take it from someone who used to suffer from regular issues (i.e. inflammation and pain) associated with right sided diverticular disease, as well as a pretty severe lactose intolerance, this combination works. I no longer get burning and stinging abdominal pains, lactose and other food triggers aren't as a big of an issue, although I still try to avoid them as much as possible, and lastly my stools have finally returned to normal (sorry for the overshare lol). Anyway, apologies for the long post, hopefully it'll help someone else out.

    • @lunchmoneyog
      @lunchmoneyog Před 3 lety +20

And in case anyone wants to know how much I take.. I mix around 1 heaped teaspoon of Slippery Elm Bark powder into a glass of water along side half a teaspoon of L-Glutamine powder, mix it up as best I can and drink it 3 times a day on an empty stomach. You could also use apple or orange juice etc if you don't dig the taste. I noticed a considerable improvement within 2-3 days, and became symptom free after about a week or so. To give you a bit of perspective, I had suffered from abdominal pain and loose stools for two years, and this stuff sorted all of my gut issues out in a week. The best my doctor could do for me is an ultrasound and go "oh, you must be lactose intolerant", yeah great work doc.

Hi Max Power. L-Glutamine is great for gut health, but I don’t think it pulls heavy metals, parasites and mold out of your body. I also don’t think it repairs your liver the way glutathione does. On top of all I’ve just mentioned that glutathione does, it also heals the gut, the same as L-Glutamine.

Wish you would circle back years later and make some leaky gut diet plans!! I'm struggling with it right now as I went through a large (but necessary) round of antibiotics. Totally murdered my gut biome. Have been eating only probiotic foods (yogurt, granola, covered in MCT Oil) and could use some help and direction on how to do a strict week to several week diet plan for eradicating my candida overgrowth in the gut.
Until then MCT Oil and a Leaky Gut supplement (nutriwests) are my two heavy hitters I'm relying on. Love your videos, would love to see some more on what to eat when you have leaky gut and are determined to repair it.

I have been suffering with pain / weakness in limbs every time I eat wheat and sugar.

My friend and I set out on a Keto lifestyle cos we were both fatties and he wanted to address his type 2. It took us only 6 months of ketosis to get him totally of his medication and listed with his doctor as not having type 2. If he can do it.... So can you!

I have severe leaky gut causing my blood pressure to spike so high. Hypertensive medications don't even work at all to lower my blood pressure. I'm sensitive to just about all foods. Don't know what to eat at this point.

    • @fit_me_up9355
      @fit_me_up9355 Před 6 lety +3

NaturalHI if it’s that severe honestly I should start with a bone broth fast for a few days and slowly introduce food. It’s a suggestion. U can’t heal a leaky gutt if u continue to eat lot of other foods. I started with a fast and then did only veggies and eggs for breakfast ( w/ digestive enzymes with each meal, bone broth collagen mixed in soup for lunch with a salad, and veggie and salon or shrimp for dinner.) the first few weeks I tried to stay away from proteins like chicken and meat and eggs . Once a day I had eggs cuz they r easy to digest compared to poultry or meat. And I ate tons of greens, while supplementing with probiotics and glutamine early morning on an empty stomach. I only ate 2-3 times a day. After a month I added more food in stayed away from carbs completely. I had Candida at the time too so I had to cut off the carbs to kill the Candida. Good luck

Magnesium is a vital mineral /supplement to heal leaky gut and it boosts good bacteria production, too much processed food depletes magnesium and making the gut more suspectible to leakage, gotta take it in the right form though as some will only worsen it, Magnesium Citrate is bad so is oxide and sulfate and chloride all bad... Magnesium will also get rid of Ammonia/Candida overgrowth from body and produce Gluathione to good levels. I personally prefer Glycinate or Malate, both these arent laxative forms...

drink a2 milk too, this has resolved most of my gut issues even in cows milk form they done studies on it showed that it increased gluthaione levels, cause it doesnt contain the bcm7 peptide that a1 does dont be paranoid cause its dairy not all dairy is bad just a1 is cause it possibly causes cancer/autoimmune conditions/candida/coeliacs disease, as well take Vitamin C to increase it be careful with this too much can have a laxative effect over 1G. if your body is low in it you will experience a detox effect at first too.. I had skin breakout for about a week or 2 and insomnia then it got better, similar effects Ive had from taking L-Glutamine supplement but I wouldnt recommend L-Glutamine supplementation personally .

Thankfully it's negative effects can be curbed and it's important to know if you do have this mutation. Get your genes checked out if you're struggling with chronic health issues. Just add carrots/broccoli/cauliflower to your diet will fix this as long as you arent allergic to any of those I know some people can be it takes a while for your gut to adjust to eating broccoli btw at first gave me diarrhea/gas cause its powerful detoxing properties 'antifungal/anti inflammatory' it took about almost a month of eating it for my body to be able to tolerate it, carrots are high in beta-carotene , vitamin A which is important for good gut health also these vegetables are high in fiber and gut bacteria loves fiber, broccoli and cauliflower are high in vitamin C which is also crucial for gut health.
I found C in supplement form it never worked for me though and made GERD worse so I prefer to get it naturally. adding these 3 vegetables to my diet resolved all my IBS/Gerd issues no lie at my worst with it I was running to the bathroom 9 times a day now I only go once or twice which is a major improvement 9 isnt normal at all... Probiotic Supplements never worked for me 'Possibly histamine related or fillers in them' and just made me sicker and it took 6 months for my digestive system to recover after stopped taking them and I experimented with them for years with no result, they arent for everyone look at newer research on them that shows this too.

If I remember correctly Thomas recommends between 0.6 and 0.7 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Using your desired goal of 85 kilos that works out to a range of 112 to 130 grams per day.
If you are not getting that consider more foods before supplement. If you do supplement pea protein is good (though I did not like the taste of the two products I tried)
