FIX YOUR GUT!! I want to give you 3 strategies that work perfectly in sync with one another to help you heal your gut! It's going to be fun, so let's dive in and I'll see you in the COMMENTS!!
3 DIFFERENT Ways to REPAIR Your Gut Health- Thomas DeLauer
Implement Fasting a Couple Times a Week
It's currently hypothesized that "bad bacteria" have a short doubling time - so, if you fast, it may starve the bad bacteria more quickly than the good bacteria
Study #1 - Scandinavian Journal of Immunology
A study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Immunology found that intermittent fasting (alternate day fasting for 12 weeks) helped Salmonella-infected mice clear the pathogenic bacteria more quickly through a heightened immune response
Mechanism
Fasting elicited "metabolic stress" that can modulate intestinal IgA production (most prevalent antibody in mucosal secretions) - also helps bacteria colonizing the mucus lining of the gut
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/f...
Study #2 - Cell Metabolism
A study published in the journal Cell Metabolism found that every other day fasting alters the gut microbiome composition to promote an increase in the number of mitochondria in the fat tissue of mice
www.cell.com/action/showMetho...
2) Add prebiotics, butyrate-producing foods + bone broth
Examples:
Chicory root , Sauerkraut, Artichoke, Asparagus, Garlic, Flax seeds, Seaweed
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
Butyrate-producing foods (cruciferous veggies & resistant starch)
Butyrate works as an HDAC (histone deacetylase) inhibitor (so it promotes acetylation), meaning it protects the DNA wrapped around histones
It’s used for energy, especially by mucosal cells that line the wall of the colon - these cells get about 70% of their energy needs from butyrate
A study published in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics found that oral butyrate supplements (4 grams per day for 8 weeks) improved symptoms of Crohn’s Disease in 9 out of 13 patients: 2 significantly improved, and 7 actually went into remission.
In other words, among the nine patients (69%) who responded to treatment, seven (53%) achieved remission and two had a partial response
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
Examples:
Cruciferous veggies
Resistant starch: Pumpernickel bread, White beans, Chickpeas, Lentils, Plantain/green banana flour, Green bananas, Cassava starch, Potato starch.
Ghee
Goat’s milk
Sauerkraut
Bone Broth
The gelatin found in bone broth is a hydrophilic colloid
ACV (Pectin)
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
3) Avoid/Mitigate Artificial Sweeteners, Sugar, Gluten, and Alcohol
Sugar
A 2019 study, published in PNAS, found that sugar can keep good microbes from colonizing your gut
www.pnas.org/content/116/1/233
Artificial Sweeteners
A study, published in Nature, 2014, began by examining what happened to different groups of mice fed any of three different artificial sweeteners (saccharin, sucralose, and aspartame) as compared to mice fed normal sugars (glucose and sucrose). Worryingly, all of the mice that were fed the artificial sweeteners quickly developed glucose intolerance, a harbinger of diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease.

Thank you all so much for the continued support during these trying times. We are exercising all efforts to make sure that nothing changes with this channel and that we continue to rock throughout any economic uncertainty. Please don’t forget to hit the bell icon and turn on notifications so that you don’t miss our vids :-)
Thomas DeLauer Hey Thomas, thank you for this very informative video. Can you please make a video about the effect of fasting on GERD and LPR they're quite common conditions and closely related to diet. Thanks
Thomas DeLauer would you please make a video explaining how much Magnesium oxide, magnesium glycinate, and magnesium threonate can be ingested daily. Based on size, weight, and level of exercise and diet..Is this a serious threat to your health long term combining the three or should an individual stick to one, and how often?
Side note, I take (1) 400g mag oxide that includes zinc and some vitamin D3 in the morning prior to my exercises -then 400g mag glycinate prior to my exercise later in the afternoon, followed by a 2,000 mg mag threonate in the evening soon after my cardio, just before my sleep. Which has been only recently, but it’s definitely something worth having reviewed for anyone who is doing something similar or thinking about combining them with their regiment.
Thomas DeLauer thank you SO MUCH for the gut video!!! I’ve been having bad gut issues (fixed a lot with clean eating and fasting) and your channel helped a lot. Appreciate this added info you have no idea
don't you add avoid caffeine . I think it is also a main factor for ruining digestion
What if you're a vegetarian???
Just encountered your channel and this video is EXACTLY what I needed. I've been battling intense gut bloating and inflammation the past few months and have been desperately trying to figure out what to improve upon. Followed and liked, thank you for the quality content!
I’m following you for a couple of month now. Thank god you are you. I mean, I know that everything you teach us is true and you can back it up. You are probably the only one that , eyes closed, I’ll follow your advice. Thank you so much !
Fantastic video. Thanks for all of the free service that you provide your viewers. Makes a huge difference.
Thank you for the information in the description! Great video.
I've been fasting 3 times a week for years consistently now, even while in quarantine. Its like ive been storing up bacteria like a doomsday prepper LOL! that being said it has been a challenge to keep the right bacteria in my gut, thanks T.D. for this reboot on the gut biome. Some of our experiences are yours as well. Godspeed! Brother!
who watching this during fast?
Thomas great vid man.. in this crazy times i need vids like this
Coming off a 36-hour fast this am! :)
Best video I've found on the subject, and I've been looking all day. Thanks! 😀
I'm going to start fasting every other day, I've been working out consistently for a year. I have a good amount of muscle tone but have not burned any fat. I've been in more of a bulk mode and it's time to change my thinking!
Simply amazing. Thank you for your altruism in trying to help others develop a healthy lifestyle 🙏
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
Thanks for this! Great stuff.
Thomas! - when you were explaining I felt like you cut some of this too short, when you said "I'll keep this short" etc. Me and a lot of your fans LIKE it when you go proper in-depth and use all the correct terminology even if it seems esoteric and "sciencey" because it gives us the chance to look up the exact compounds/hormones etc etc you're talking about and learn more ourselves. Cheers from England
he's doing it for the brain dead people in the comments who hate nerdy words or sciencey shit
This is so incredibly helpful!!! I love how detailed u are! U don't leave anything to question =)
Looks totally amazing Thomas and keep up the good work!
Thank you! Very appreciated!
Love to you Thomas. And thanks for the flax seed/egg bread recipe. It's awesome already tested a cheddar bacon variation, and an orange cranberry with lakanto icing. Superb both. And great um, movements:)
Wow, interesting video! Since the "Beer" event keeping us at home, I've put some weight on, and am starting back on KETO today (after 36-hour fast). My wife is getting on it as well, and has terrible arthritis and inflammation...hoping the diet will help her. Can we get another 30-day keto challenge? I always enjoy getting a meal plan and inspiration from your viewers--I know my wife will as well.
Really liked the whiteboard approach to presentation. Allowed me to stop video, review what will be presented and then be an informed listener. Also, can do a screen print and note additional points on the document, whether electronic or printed. Good job, Thomas!
Do you offer personal online coaching, if not you should look into it ! You have a lot of knowledge and I'm sure people would pay for personalized help ! Thanks for what you do, have a good one
YOU ARE such a treasure
Thanks again Thomas 💪😊
Liked, another great video. Thanks!
Excellent Podcast 🙂👍 Gut health information is always important!
Love the video and can u please do more on sugar and how to quit it!
This amazing video was incredibly helpful for me personally
Hey Thomas,
I really like your channel because it's just real and non of the fake stuff the other youtubers put out.
Thanks to you, I've started intermittent fasting and its been a total week until now.
I'm absolutely comfortable with it and see this as a plan I can follow forever.
My only question is, If I fast a 16:8 plan everyday forever, this won't have any negative effects on my body right?
Just for the record, I'm 6'6", 20 years old and weigh around 100kgs(205-ish pounds)
Please let me know if this is a good option for me.
Love you and your channel.
Thanks from Egypt 🇪🇬😊❤️
great video. Thanks.
Great information on how to repair your gut.
just an FYI - "glucose intolerance", which is mentioned toward the end of the video, is another term for high blood sugar, and what some refer to as "pre-diabetes".
actually it is insulin resistance
The video is yet another very educational vid, and somewhat entertaining as well. That way people get in touch with stuff that really counts in life, unlike the unnverving stuff in some media outlets these days. Personally my opinion is, that besides the fasting stuff its vital to not overdo it with anything. And with sugar its so easy to overeat, cause its basically everywhere. However, when there is just a little sweetener now and then, I feel its okay for a healthy body to cope with it. (we're all humans, as Thomas mentioned in earlier videos) Those studies are often conducted with mice or even people, that get pretty large amounts of sweeteners, sometimes mixtures of several. I remember that human study with those 7 people had a huge amount of aspartame involved, though sadly I cannot recall the precise location of that study. In Europe there is a so called "ADI" measurement, that articulates max. amounts of certain sweeteners per kg. Those are results of several older and newer, year long studies made by the EU, EFSA and the DGE - "german society of nutrition") It takes a bit of the "fear factor" out of the equation, so to speak.
Dude! Your shirt!! That organization! YAAASSSS! ♥️👊💥
Great video!
Thanks a lot...🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Prolonged fasting of 4 1/2 days once every 2 months really helped my gut. I get a bacteria die-off on the 4th day every time when I'll also take zeolite and bentonite clay to absorb the mycotoxins.
I suck on clay when I'm hungry.
Thank you. LOVE that your repping that Tshirt logo / message✊🏻O.U.R.
Excellent video
Thank you
Thomas needs a board like Dr Berg.
Dr.berg is the worse CZcams educator.
Thank you bro
Nice shirt. My wife and I have been long-time supporters for O.U.R. too! Love their mission and efforts to abolish modern-day slaved children around the world. You keep up your great work too, Tom!
Great job
Brilliant amazing work!! Ur great karma bro
Two thumbs Up for the T-Shirt Tom!
I have gut problems and couldn’t agree more with fasting and the foods to avoid .. I’ve been doing it every now and then And it makes a huge difference
Question has the gut problems caused you weight loss ?? Or what were some of your side effets? I ask as I suspect I might be in the same boat
Thanks. Just thanks.
Awesome video Thomas, just the boost I need to keep on fighting against my overgrowth of candida! I have recently implemented a fasting regime according to your advice (alternate day) and it has shown positive signs for me. I have one question for you - what do you think about taking one probiotic capsule once it is time to break my fast? Good or bad idea?
This dude could make a great teacher!
That's what he's doing, homie.
He's teaching.
Hey tommy luv you work bro.. Can you do a fasting video that involves alcohol consumption beer, wine, spirits.. how often we should drink, should it be like a cheat meal? or can we go on say the warrior diet and drink six beers every day in the four hour window and still lose weight??
Hi Thomas, one suggestion, plz get interactive white board, I know you can have one.
Tom, what a great fucking episode!!! You knocked it out of the park!!!!
I got my gallbladder removed by the end of january of this year and man my gut is messed up can barely taste food and enjoy it , that's a common problem after gallbladder removal apparently that's not really mentioned ,I learned so much hopefully it helps me. Thank you Thomas, ! Wish me luck!
Venus M wow I had mine removed in 2008 and I can taste food just fine but a lot of food messes with my digestive system. I’m either constipate or the extreme opposite. Also losing weight is hard even with fasting.
@@Tabaitha_Elle Girl it was worst right after the surgery, when i stared eating again let's say my regular foods I noticed i developed sensitivity to dairy but it went away , and I couldn't eat citrusy fruits because my tongue would burn and get swollen i got so scared I wasn't told any of this and had to do my little research, luckily that went away too, now I have to heal my gut.
There are so many things that they don't tell you after gallbladder removal but every body reacts different.
My Diet has to change and I found out that you can start taking some supplements that can help you digest your food better, I can't tell you witch ones exactly you can look it up ,it can be helpful if you haven't tried it yet, I would like to start fasting as well , I hope it works for me and helps.
And as for weight lost I tried something after I had my twin daughters 7 years ago and it does work, well it did for me, how ever is not very pleasant to drink because of the taste but you get use to it, I mixed the ingredients with hot water and every day in the very morning it should be the first thing you drink and at night the last thing you drink as well. You can drink it as long as you want or until you reach you goals if it works for you, after a while I was just drinking at night because of the weight I have had already lost , if you would like try it....
1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar
1 table spoon of lime or lemon juice
1\2 tea spoon of ground ginger
1\2 tea spoon of ground cinnamon
And add honey for taste.
Good like if you try it! 😊
First thing I drink every morning lemon water, ACV, with fresh green coconut water.
Nice video!
I've subscribed to your channel ❤️
I always appreciate the scientific explanations. I find other videos a bit surfacey and mundane.
Very impressive. Thanks for spreading your knowledge.
I started IF Nov 1. I didn't know not to do it every day. I ended up with gallbladder attacks end of week 3. Your videos are helping me piece together how to make my gut right again. I've had 5 attacks. Ultrasound this week, but I want to do whatever I can to not have it removed. How long do you think one should do the IF 3x a week before re evaluation of gut, with either another ultrasound or is there another way to see if it is healing? I'm so scared to experience another gallbladder attack. Thanks!
Great video. Such an important subject.
Thank you so much Thomas for this video, I would like to know if you can upload some information about Dysbiosis, doing Keto! Thank you again! 🙏
Just yesterday, I read a study that showed how ketones promote gut healing via stem cell regeneration. This is now the second study published in 2020 showing this.
A colleague of mine and I now speculate that an alternating diet that circles between keto, intermittent fasting, and a high fiber diet is likely the most effective for healing the gut. Potentially even in people with IBS or IBD.
I could go much more in detail here but I leave it for now :D
what would be a natural high fiber diet
I always get a little skeptical when hear about a food study done on mice, there's been just too many of these done in a manner that simply doesn't correlate with real life and ends up giving the wrong impression about things.
Parasite load may through a wrench in this.. but I will give it a try.❤
On an episode of the Andrew Huberman podcast. He had Layne Norton on there discussing artificial sweeteners. And Layne claimed to the contrary on your assessment of artificial sweeteners, like Sucralose, negatively effecting the gut microbiome.
Omg just what I needed! I've had SIBO for the past week
How do you know you had Sibo?
as far as sugar goes.. are raisins and frozen fruits in smoothies ok? I see the high sugar content on the labels. Or is it only added suagr that is the problem?
Can you tell us more about PQQ and Nutritional Yeast JR Savage UK
Great info as always. Science nerd here lol
So erythritol done right is okay so tell me Thomas I just bought some how do I do it right??? Also if its indigestible how is that good just asking? It also helps good bacteria being indigestible?? Help me understand please😁
Could we replace bone broth with collagen protein powder?or bone broth powder?are the benefits similar?
So why garlic when it is supposed to aggregate acid reflux can you make a video on acid reflux I’ve been suffering major heartburn and acid reflux lately
chickory root can cause severe gut distress in some people so beware! first hand knowledge here.
I am sure it is different for everyone, but what is the suggested/average timeline for each of these steps, or are they simultaneous (do them all at once)?
I've heard it said that food is the most powerful medicine.
(good or bad)
This sure tends to agree with that!
It's so much more than calories.
Thank you for the video but I have some question ! Please can you answer them !What does glucose intolerance lead to ?
How can gluten affect the leak gut ?
Smiling_az Smiling_az glucose intolerance leads to a lot of stuff. Google diabetes and you’ll see the extreme end.
would this work with candida and mold toxicity ? also if doing 16 hours every would that have similar effect ?
When you say bacteria, does that apply to fungus as well?
How can i put on weight in a healthy way?
I NEED to know all your credentials and what exactly you are and what youve learned before i can take your advice, a health coach, isnt a nutritionist so what are your studies and certificates or degrees?
Could you pls talk about gut health in ppl with IgA deficiency?
Dina Naser that would be great I am one of those. Would like to know how I can increase it
Can you talk about SIBO?
What is your thinking on polyphenols?
Anyone have information on just how much aspartame/etc they gave those rats?
So how many weeks would you need to fast 3x a week for ?
I know that you have sponsors that offers discounts. Do you have a list of all these sponsors, their respective items and discounts?
Enlighten +1
Is adding bone broth powder to protein powder as effect as having it on it's own
So when it comes to sugar, we should also stay away from agave ?
Question please because I am stumped. When you say that bad bacteria like sugar and thus we should cut it out, that makes sense, but shouldn’t we then cut out all CARBS because even complex carbs are converted to glucose?? Please please clarify lol.
Does this Apply to SIBO as well?
You gotta add raw milk kefir to this list..its the highest probiotic food with 50+ strains that colonize the gut unlike yogurt that has transient strains that last 24 hours
Gut health/GI inflammation has destroyed my fitness. I went from my best to my worst and struggling 2 years every day with no answer and thousands of dollars spent.
Eat butter, ghee, or heavy cream. I drank a glass of heavy cream a day. They all are ridiculously high in butyrate. That’s really all you need to do. And watch your calories because they have a lot!
Do a video on DRY FASTING DAILY FOR 30 DAYS aka Ramadan .. Please
So if we are intolerant then we can't get rid of sugar through digestion alone?
Isn’t bone broth super high in sodium? Will that outweigh the benefits of the bone broth?
Xylitol is an artificial sweetener which gut bacteria actual feed on
When creating bone broth, what's the best way to extract the fat from it. My gut can't handle it
Do you have probiotics the prebiotic days too or every day?
If gluten is bad because it’s indigestible then does that mean fiber is bad because it’s also indigestible and makes its way out. Yes fiber has more benefits but still. If food with gluten is controlled by eating modest amounts of carbs then how is that damaging I mean eating protein puts more stress on the body than gluten because it takes more energy to break it down?
So good! Coming from a functional medicine clinic - inulin fibers are crucial! Check out Sunfiber, this has been used to remarkably improve sibo patients symptoms - also a supplement that has Imunnogobulin A to help healing the lining which he mentioned in a previous video I believe. This really helps with leaky gut which leads to a lot of people's symptoms of bloating, joint pain, acne, etc.
