  • Just a quick video break down on how to change your Camshaft Position Sensor.
    General Symptom:
    - Generic Code P0010
    - Car will not start
    - Rough Idle
    - Mis-Fires
    - Skipping
    - Basically your car may be running like a old tuna boat engine
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Car: 2000 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    Removal and Install Process:
    1) Disconnect your battery
    2) Remove the front Air dam ( trust me, this will help with the Timing cover re-installation
    3) Gently Slide the turbo coolant line (attached to the upper timing belt cover) over the upper timing belt cover so it's out of the way
    4) Lift the other cable which is directly below the coolant line, out of the bracket on the upper timing belt cover. Just move it out of the way for now.
    5) Unclip the two lock tabs on the left and right side of your Upper Timing Belt Cover, and gently pull up to remove it
    6) Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the Cam Position Sensor in place. Remember to install the new sensor in the exact same position as the old one
    7) Tight the new sensor down to Audi spec ( 10NM / 7 ft lbs)
    8) Re-install the upper timing belt cover and place wiring cable and coolant line back onto their respective position on the cover
    9) Re-install the front air dam, and connect your battery
    10) Turn ignition to the on position and wait for about 10 seconds before starting your car
    11) Start your car, and the CEL should now be off
    * car may take longer than normal to fire off, or run a little lumpy. This is only because the computer is going to relearn this new piece and make some adjustments.
    * You do this all at your own risk. I am in no way liable for any damage you do to your vehicle. This procedure works for me, and again I am not liable for your work or any damage done to your car. Please use caution and common sense when repairing your car!

    That's cool, I was dreading doing the sensor on mine because I heard it was a lot more difficult. Doesn't seem bad at all. Thanks

    Any suggestions on replacement part brands?
    RockAuto says the Bosch is OEM, but I don't want to spend twice the cost of aftermarket ones if they will work just as well!

    Hey, is this the same thing as an P0012 code ( replace camshaft adjuster ) I recently got a check engine light when downshifting and my car started to misfire a day later.

    I’m trying to figure out why my 2004 A4 1.8t won’t shift into third gear and goes into limp? I’ve changed the transmission oil cleaned the shift solenoids replaced the bcm tcm and now I’m thinking the vss speed sensors and or the cam position sensors?! But I’m just not sure???

    So what if the car starts up perfectly, but when you come to stop and then start to accelerate, it stalls or misfires? What is that?!

    • @six8tengarage686
      @six8tengarage686  Před 6 lety

      Its hard to pin point exactly without getting the engine error code from you. If you don't have any overheat problems or vacuum line leaks I would check the plugs first (fouling, tip damage, or minor head gasket leaks). After this I would check the coil packs for damaged boots, or non working ones. Misfires tend to indicate components tied to timing and firing/spark (cam sensors, crank angle sensors, etc), "sometimes" vacuum leaks cause this as well. If you can scan your car and send me the code I can check our past repairs and see if there is a solution for you. Thanks!

    I have the same car, i got code p0011 it has to do with the camshaft

    • @six8tengarage686
      @six8tengarage686  Před 6 lety +2

      It does, and more so your timing which the cams we know assist in. The repair needed on most of the A4's we buy with this code are due to a bad timing chain tensioner, and position sensors. The other few times, the timing belt in the front skipped a tooth. People say its the oil pump, but in my experience with these I have not had any oil pump issues.

    I have the same car a Audi A4 2002 with the 1.8t and the I have a misfiring on the cylinders and I checked after I had replaced the coils so I saw the fuel injectors plugs were all messed up so I went to a junk jar took some good fuel injectors plugs and I put them all together now my car don’t start I replace the speed sensor and now I’m guessing my final job it’s the camshaft sensor if you can help me with anything please let me know I’m hoping my car starts after installing the camshaft

    • @six8tengarage686
      @six8tengarage686  Před 5 lety

      Most of the time with these engines and others your motor will either just turn over, and not fire off, or it won't even turn over. Usually Mercedes, and Audi won't even let the car turn over when your cam and or crankshaft sensors have gone out, and for a good reason.
      If you haven't pulled a code yet with your scanner do so first, and then attack from there. In my experience fixing and buying cars at auctions that say "does not start" its usually the cam position sensor, crank sensor, or fuel pump/relay 8/10. Pull the codes first so you don't waste any money.

    So I replaced the head on my 2003 1.8T Jetta. I keep getting the cam position sensor error code, although it seems to start and run ok. I have tried replacing the sensor, and it did not help. Both myself and a shop have checked the timing and it looks correct. Any ideas what the problem might be?
    PS The new head is not OEM. Would that make a difference?

      Unfortunately, I have not. I THINK it might very well be an intermittent connection between the sensor (brand new OEM) and the computer. But without a factory manual to trace it properly, I'm not sure how to even check. @@vedvin817

      Did you already replace the camshaft sensor? That's a pretty classic symptom. Mine didn't even throw a code for it for over 100 miles. Crankshaft sensor is another possibility (along with a dozen other things, but those are 2 common ones.)

    Ey, i got the p0012 code on my a4 b6 2001 1.8t avj («a» camshaft position timing over retarded) i am also retarded and i have no idea how to fix this shit, i tried removing the engine light in the display with obd 2 but after deiving for 10 min it was back on. I think this happened after i drove over a crack in the road and it bumped under my car the other day. Anyeays any help? Should i try just changing the camshaft sensor thing?

    These engines are non interference so if a timing belt breaks you're golden. No need to get a new head.

    • @louielouie7806
      @louielouie7806 Před 5 lety

      WRONG. This isnt a Lexus; it is DEFINITELY an interference engine. Change the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, and freeze plug while you have it in the service position. Save yourself a headache down the road!
