      @@MarcusAurelius12as a stoic dermatologist from Denmark I would encourage acquiescence to the tips recommended by my colleague from another mother/continent 🙂
      Best return on investment (ROI):
      #1-2 DAILY Moisturizer w SPF30+ (my current favourites are Cerave AM or Dermaknowlogy SPF50 ) in the morning. If you live in a sunny area with a high UV-index I would recommend application twice in the morning: First straight after your morning shower (or just a bit of water to the face) between toothbrushing or perhaps after lunch. This was tested in Denmark on a sunny day on the beach (N=40sh as I recall, so not a lot, but still a very convincing study) by colleagues from Bispebjerg Hospital including Heerfordt et al . .... remember vitamin D supplementation if you use it year round!
      #3 Retinoid PM (tretinoin, adapalene, trifarotene) ... be aware that your skin needs some weeks to get used to the retinoid and I usually recommend application every 3 days for 2-4 weeks, then every other day for 2-4 weeks and then daily if tolerated.... expect some irritation in the form of redness and scaling. DON'T APPLY every day in the first month even though you feel nothing is happening.
      (#4 Procedures: fractional CO2 laser every few years or fillers/Botox are also worth looking at ... some days of downtime/visible (intentional) skin damage to increase collagen production! Hope this works for you ... but #1-2 are essential from a young age!

    Surprised to hear he mixes his retinoid with his moisturizer as that would lead to a “spottier” application. Putting on the retinoid first and then the moisturizer second would ensure that you’d get as even an application as possible

    • @usamasyed
      @usamasyed Před rokem +23

      I hear this a lot - it's basically overcomplicating a very simple topic. Retinoids aren't a 'spot treatment' that need precise application. They have a cumulative effect, so if your moisturizer combo makes it 'spotty' one day and misses one area, it's just as likely to catch that other area more the next day. I think it's a classic example of skinfluencers making something very simple seem tough with pseudoscientific problems... but that's just my two cents.

    • @debrucey
      @debrucey Před rokem

      @@usamasyed The concern is more that the moisturiser can cause the emulsion to break, leaving small patches of tretinoin at a higher concentration than it would normally be, which could cause irritation. • @cv7958
      @cv7958 Před rokem

      To me, while that would be technically true, it’s a minor and nit picky issue akin to the idea that we must all moisturize our skin in upright hand motion as opposed to bringing things down and helping gravity sag the skin. I highly doubt such differences in method would go beyond a negligible outcome.

      Agreed, and I'm also quite in awe at how much they just skimmed over the "dangers" when it comes to retinoids. I think it's absolutely insane to go "yeah I recommend a retinoid and you should use it" and keep it at that.
      They are amazing, but if you're not careful with them they will mess your skin up and you'll ruin your skin barrier. You have to wean into it really slow, it takes months to go up. And some people just really can't handle retinoids. I think it would've been super important for him to mention this and maybe also something like short contact therapy.
      Quite shocking imo
      Besides that it's super weird to call cleansing secondary, especially when recommending daily sunscreen. Hell, if you have oily skin it's also a lot better to double cleanse with an oil cleanser or balm first, which will help a lot. (Which is what I do)

      @@debrucey Sorry - I need to point out that despite using sunscreen daily, I'm rarely washing my face before going to bed (I'm taking showers on the mornings) and I'm getting compliments on my skin and questions what I do with it that it looks so good. I'm also very seldom have breakouts - usually like one little pimple when I'm menstruating.
      I don't want to say, that cleaning your face before sleep is bad... I'm just agreeing with doctor, that this isn't a "must have" for having a good skin and that sunscreens wears off - that's my experience. To be fair and precise, I need to add, that I'm using sunscreen with a light, very watery and not oily formula (Paula's Choice - Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF50), I'm not reapplying and I'm not using this recommended "2 fingers" amount, but rather little amount (too little probably), which is completely absorbed through my skin after a moment - so this can be a cause why I don't have the need to wash my face at the end of the day.
      I also have currently very well regulated skin regarding sebum production - I'm not overly sweating during the day even in the T-section, my skin is matte all day and any of cosmetics which I use on the morning don't leave oily film on my face.
      Also despite not caring about the sunscreen - I care a lot about removing my makeup before I go to sleep. I'm not wearing it often - that's why I'm rarely wash face at evenings, but when I have makeup I always remove it with oil and then wash my face with water-based cleanser (so 2-steps makeup removal).
      I was actually very suprised that my skin looks equally good when I don't wash it daily before sleep (despite wearing sunscreen), but what doctor said actually explains it to me.

    If you want clear skin, forget the cleansers/creams and completely eliminate ALL carbohydrates. I was vegan for almost 7 years and I had moderate acne with a severe case of keratosis pilaris all over my body. I switched to the carnivore diet earlier this year, and my skin is flawless from head to toe in less than 2 months after starting. My mom is now doing the diet and her psoriasis has drastically reduced in only 2 weeks.

      @@mysterical- Sorry for the late reply to this comment! I’m just reporting an update. My skin is the best it has ever looked in my life. I haven’t had a single pimple in months and my skin feels as soft as a baby’s skin. In addition to this, my oral health has dramatically improved on this diet. I had a dentist appointment last week and my hygienist reported my gums did not bleed at all in any quadrant of my mouth when she performed a routine periodontal charting. This has never happened to me before. My teeth are usually quite sensitive as well, but it was nonexistent during this appointment. I’m convinced it is something to do with this diet because that is the only thing I have changed.
