I'm really surprised that people actually missed that. I mean, they were fighting in really gloomy weather, and after what Cid did, it was bright as heck without a cloud in sight.
What's funny he even says "sky rendering" right before he does it.

The thing is Cid IS supposed to act like a background character in his own show, meanwhile the plot progresses for the other characters in the show like Alexia, Rose, Irys, etc. That's the whole point. Rose's story was so good and you can't help but feel bad that she's been through alot. Sometimes when you focus too much on Cid, you tend to lose attention on what the other characters are going through.
I love that he's written that way. I don't know if you're familiar with Monogatari, but the main character, Araragi, is written a similar way. The stories are mainly about the girls in his life up until the VERY end, with him mainly being a vehicle for story progression.
There was a moment in the episode when things first started with Rose were I was more engrossed in what was happening with her than I was with the Tournament stuff. I considered the Tournament/Mundanne Mann plot the SIDE story.

The fact that Cid looked behind him, saw scaffolding and tools, and allowed himself to be knocked into them (probably leaving an opening to direct the hit) just so he could pick up a crowbar makes me laugh to this day. Dude's playing 3D chess while everyone else is playing tic tac toe.

@@WidgyAinz I don't know where you got that from. He turns and looks, sees the scaffolding, gets hit into the scaffolding and you see a bunch of other tools scattering from the impact. He is then wielding the crowbars.
If it was made from slime with Shadow's magic running through it, Beatrix wouldnt be able to cut through it unless he let her do it. Considering you see Shadow get impressed by Beatrix cutting the crowbar, Id highly doubt he'd have let her cut it.

Only those possessed and recovered can be members of Shadow Garden. Cid may not know what's going on but Alpha obviously saw a benefit in bringing Rose into the group. They left him years ago and have been building since. Remember back in Ep 4 when Cid thought they were hiring extras.
Alpha thought it was part of Shadows plan to have her join.

Rose is actually a recovered cursed person. Up until recently actually. We saw the curse spreading through her in the last few episodes
I loved the juxtaposition with Alexia and Iris. Alexia knew *exactly* what Atomic is; she saw it before. So she knew that it was utterly beyond her power to do anything about. It hapoens or doesn't entirely at Shadow's whim and discretion. So she said, "I'll just keep doing what I'm doing." She kept hold of her sword and continued her practice as if it were just another day. And immediately after, Iris, the _prodigy,_ drops her sword out of despair and hopelessness. And then after Cid blows away the rain with Atomic, she has the biggest meltdown I've ever seen in a broken character. And Beatrix is just there, like, "First time?"
Yeah she chalked it up to we'll say it was an artifact gone haywire, or when she saw alpha she must've been using one. Then when she saw it up close when she thinks she's wielding great power only to be shown what real power is.
Alexia was the true definition of stoicism💀. “It is what it is. Nothing I can do about it”
Its almost as if Iris entire life up until this point has been dictated by her being a master prodigy from a young age and the sheer amount of pressure that has come with it. Of course she will despair at literal proof that her life dictated on her being the strongest had been a lie in front of this terrorist who blew up a hole in the city and (and as far everyone knows) barged into the most prestigious school in the country and murdered a respected teacher and former legendary warrior. For Iris being outmatched like this is quite literally the most earth shattering concept because Cid and Shadow Garden are complete BS when it comes to power scaling in this world.
While Alexia who had been outmatched her whole life got hope because she saw that Shadow and her have the same fighting style so maybe she can also reach great heights. For Alexia being outclassed is nothing new, so she saw nothing but hope in Shadow.
I like these two sisters but lets not pretend that the circumstances are the same for these two 😅
Beatrix really impressed me. She was the only person who Cid had to take even a little bit seriously. And her character is pretty chill and humble. I hope this isn't the last we see of her.

Cid is the literal embodiment of came, destroyed a city in a 2v1 against the best swordsmen, made them lose the will to fight by attempting to drop an Atomic Bomb on them, left and refused to elaborate anything.

Fun Fact for the "wrestling moves": Cid's specialty are actually hand-to-hand combat, but he uses primarily swords, because that's "this world aesthetic"!
Meaning ... ditching the sword in a desperation move, is the worst move to do against Cid/Shadow!
People forget that Cid trained his body in the real world before he got reincarnated to this world. He was peak human conditioning and absolutely a monster in hand to hand as he had no powers in the previous world.
Yep, in this world because of Magic, people did not develop grappling and hand to hand combat. If you fight with your bare hands (like Delta) you are considered a barbarian and uncivilized.
And also this world people doesn't seem to know any hand to hand combat without swords and magic they are kinda useless

I think every reactor missed this detail, but when he does the part with the water, he says "let me show you the witch's secret technique" meaning how when Aurora was summoned at the stadium, she was doing the technique with the blood magic and spikes, hence why he says "I guess magic doesn't flow very well through water after all". I always thought that was a great detail. It was probably unbelievably unprecedented and insane in that world that he did that with water in the first place because of the impossible amount of magic and control it would've taken.
Now that you mention it... It kinda foreshadows the properties of blood and its relevance to magic it self. "Magic flows better trough blood than water" that is the immediate conclusion out of Cid's line... I hope they explore more about the nature of magic MmM
Eminence in Shadow is a hard one to evaluate as a series. If someone digs Cid's antics and enjoy the meta humour of the series they will enjoy the HELL out of it but If they like more plot centric shows or have a hard time with the fact that Cid is completely OUT and unaware of the Diabolos cult plot and everything then it can fall really short. In the end I completely understand why you struggled but I hope that you enjoyed it enough to eventually watch its second season that will come out this fall
Yeah it’s like Misfit of Demon Academy. If you love the spectacle and insane bullshit it’s so much fun. But If you find it stupid then you won’t enjoy it as much

@JunkoEnoshimaDQ Yeah I’m somewhere in the middle, I really enjoy Cid’s personality and the humor in the show, plus the action is awesome. The plot stuff doesn’t bother me, but for some reason it *really* irritates me how he barely interacts with anyone in Shadow Garden in a meaningful way. For example, I’m not sure if it’s better in the light novel/manga, but in the anime he has all of 3 conversations with Alpha, all of which are within the first 4 episodes.
@@emircanozad914not as much as like everyone else in Shadow Garden, every time he's involved it's by chance, he's been assuming the girls know he made it up earlier and are playing along but it's actually real.
That last scene with Rose made me regret laughing at her burger wrapper. Seriously, though it says a lot how we rationalize what is meaningful. Perception can really be the difference between resilience and complete defeat. The genius Iris humiliated while lackluster Alexia with an unbreakable determination. Rose with her memories of the greatest NPC character to help her survive bootcamp.

Honestly I related with her from the start. Im a very sentimental person and even something as significant as a burger wrapper, I’d keep if it has some meaning behind it

Yep, I have a feeling they didn't pick up much on the story. My guess is that most people aren't used to the fact that the protag isn't really involved in the situation cause he didn't know what's going on, and if people focus on him to view things then they might get confused. With this type of anime (like overlord), you mostly need to view from other chracters perspective instead to see the full story.
Or maybe it's just not their cup of tea.
Well as i see it this anime is about Cid and the ridiculous bullshit he does.
The plot is just there to make the world feel alive and create settings for Cid to do some funny shit.

It's actually rare for Anime exclusive plot in a LN based Anime to be actually done well.
I mean, the whole fight in the LN/Manga was a short one, and Cid didn't even try to use Atomic in there.
Iris didn't get humbled.... You'll see why I said that later on.

There are two stories being told.
Cid has no idea whats going on and everybody else. The real movers are Shadow Garden and The Cult.
The purpose of episode 1 was to illustrate how much combat and technical knowledge Cid is going into his new world with. This let him completely focus on training his nuke magic while growing up since he already knew every martial art that Earth has.
The faint step into appearing behind Beatrice is my favorite moment in the entire show. Such a cool flex

The sound design in this show is amazing, the utter silence when Cid steps and disappears is better than any sound effect might ever be, such a good detail

Important to remember that those 2 women were **the pinnacle** of their whole Nation, and no one scales up to them in their regular world (meaning if we don't take Shadow Garden into account). He still humbled them like their daddy though
7:32 given how small his aura was the previous two times and the amount of damage it did, I wonder how much damage this one would have done if he hadn't detonated it way up in the air.
Before the atomic there were clouds as far as the eye can see. After the atomic you can vaguely see some clouds in the far far distance. Basically at the end of the horizon. This atomic would have not just wiped out the city but also a lot of the country.
There are days where I wish humans had powers then I remember Roshi exists and I immediately thank god we don’t have powers

I'd rate the show 7/10. Its an enjoyable watch. Alot of people actually wish the show stuck to the plot from episode 1 so I understand Lupa's frustration 😂 but the way it turned out is way better and unique
The events of episode 1 feels disconnected from the rest of the season because iirc it was content from later on in the ln/manga. In the source material it started with Cid being isekaid to the fantasy setting and it was vol 4 when his life on Earth (attending school - rescuing Akane) was shown.
As much as i think this show is kinda mid, i really like the worldbuilding in this. It's nothing too forced and made me really interested

Loved this series. Actually own all the light novels and have been waiting for more!!! Cant wait till next season for all to see where this road goes! The story will open up more in the coming season. You begin to see it in the last light novels.
For anyone wondering, this is Manga chapter 26. Web novel does the chapter a bit better than the manga (novel does it like in the show, kind of) I believe they're still in the arena -- and when Shadow is about to leave, Iris is like -- are you running away? And that's when Cid gets triggered and says "what need is there to run away?" and unleashes his magic -- and everyone (including all the spectatoes in the arena) realise that if Shadow wanted he could have killed them all from the beginning.
For an isekai, this was pretty good. Comedic, great animations, and definitely just an entertaining show which is most of what I go for ❤
This show's season 1 has as much or more story than season 1 of Overlord, Mush Tenshi, and Re:Zero in my opinion. I understand as reactors you have a tough job of catching all the sauce while reacting at the same time. So I would say this show may be harder for reactors since it has so much going on, but regardless thanks for reacting to it.

The story is actually very good, and very well and competently written. I think if any of you rewatch it some day you might notice it more because there's a lot of well written details and setups and lots of payoffs.

After having read the Light Novel, I realised that there is an underlying story, but the anime adaptation decided to go more on this route. The light novel shows a more obvious underlying story, but still, I would say that Cid being OP dumbass was the best part for me.
I came back after a while to say this, I love this show with all my heart because of the amount of thought and effort that goes into it.
For example, anime that get you THIS hyped for both season endings, from the abysmal sound effects to revisiting charictor traits. Endings that not only get you this hyped every step of the way BUT ALSO basically tell the entire story subtly through a SINGLE ep is insane (Cids use of crowbars from ep 1, Beatrice remember everything shadow garden did, Cids flashbacks to his pass, I could write a parragraph)
I dispise animes that say the entire plot or certain segments of plots didn't matter like it was all a dream, or they did it for no reason, EXT. THIS right here is the EXACT OPOSITE, telling people how the ENTIRE PLOT, EVERY ACTION matters til the end. it's a work of art, sorry but I always get hyped whenever I re-watch this anime

this is the mentality you need to watch this show cid is just like ains when he does something that ends in benefit of shadow garden the seven shades are demiurge and albedo "as expected of lord shadow" and when he does something they don't understand they think "he is to brilliant for us mere mortals to understand yet" focus in the plot when you are with the 7 shades and in comedy and cool fight with cid and some times we may have cross overs.
