I feel Cid is pretty easy to understand. He doesn't want to be a Hero. He doesn't want to be a Villain. He simply wants to be the most powerful person that no one knows about. The Powerful Person in the Shadows, Kage no Jitsuryokusha, the Eminence in Shadow. He wouldn't nuke the City because then he'd become the Villain. He wouldn't kill the girls because they're good and that would make him Evil. He just wants to look cool while being super strong in the shadows, while having the facade of a weakling.
I guess he really struggles with balancing out his two opposing desires. He loves to showboat. But also loves to be in the background. He's always questioning whether he went too hard. Not even he really knows what he wants.
Shadow is mysterious, even to himself.

ââ@@yi_hou3092Sherry is in LN actually. It just that the author forgot about her when writing the story. Just in the anime, Daisuke (Author) remembered her existence that could have impact on the plot.
The parallel between Alexia who's swinging her sword when she thinks she's gonna die and Iris who's dropping hers the literal next frame... amazing.
Then again Beatrix sighing in relief while Iris has a mental breakdown.
The maturity gap is insane.

Fun fact about Rose. She was shown to us as part of Shadow Garden back in the first episode. Episode 1, 20:54 she is standing with her back to us with short hair and her sword, as part of a new squad with number 664 and number 665.
And Alexia iris too are in that opening a sec or 2 behind.

He actually exploded the Atomic attack. Notice how it was clear and sunny and before it was overcast and raining? He just blew it up in the atmosphere.

True irony, when you think about how they told him that joke about running and hiding and he just turned on lamp(sun) right to their faces to show them, it isnÂŽt him who is hiding from reality even through he is living in his dreamy performance xD
the Witches secret art was Arouras move from the sanctuary arc :P Betrix was not using i am atomic but focuing her own magic. and notice how Cid remove all the cloud and rain wiht his mock I Am :P
10/10 finale, just amazing. Beatrix can't do atomic, that was just a strong attack focusing her magic. As to why it looked pretty similar to Cid's magic visually I don't know, if its actually meaningful we might find out later. The anime pointed it out and it's easy to miss but Beatrix is a heroes descendent/possessed that cured herself and unlocked the power of the diablos blood. In episode 19 Perv says 'Beatrix the woman who might have awakened the heroes blood within.' That's why she so strong.
I think the lines which make it look kinda like Cid's magic are indicating how controlled and organized the magic is. Cid is ridiculously efficient with his magic and controls it in way more detail so it always looks like that, even when covering an entire city. What they were showing was Beatrix focusing on controlling her magic to setup her attack.
Maybe she can reach atomic if she trains few decades

That attack of her focusing her magic was absolutely nothing but if you must know, it's called Iaido Strike. That was all the magic she could possibly unleash and it was nothing in comparison to what even the Numbers can do. Beatrix can't even heal herself, which is basic shit for Shadow Garden
Beatrix isn't properly Awakened, if she were she'd be far more powerful than what she is. The Cult simply believes she Awakened, but their information is incorrect (She is after all, over 100 years old and has just had time to train)
Easily my favorite part of the fight is when Shadow looks over his shoulder to see the construction scaffolding, and adjusts himself to be knocked into it, just so he could get some real, non-slime crowbars to use.
Did you guys catch that on the final building top Shadow caught and put out Iris' artifact with one hand? Right before she joined Beatrix to make their final attack.

Its gonna be interesting when Rose realizes that despite joining shadow garden and having to let go of everything, the man sheâll serve is the same man she had an attachment for

Remember controlling water, Parting weather with atomic is magic that is almost impossible by people in that era without artifact and this one guy can do it without borrowing anything. The only other one capable of such feats is Aurora aka Diabolos. Shadow earn the title Demon

I know this is after the fact and a few weeks late, but here it goes regardless: -
The fight between Beatrix, Iris, and Shadow was a perfect display of how outmatched the two were. Beatrix is at the start of fine-tuning her magic, which I believe the lines across her body meant as Shadow is *the* epitome of having perfect control over his magical and physical capabilities. Shadow, at some point, was so absorbed into his persona that he started to address himself as 'we', indicating the split he has between his nonchalant self and his Eminent self. The only reason he did not go through with nuking the entirety of the city was thanks to his child-self telling him to stop, his child-self mouthing the word; "yamero" to him in the flashback. Now, all of that energy can't just be dissipated into nothing, as it has been building up to a point, so he angled it up, clearing the sky of *any* clouds. I also love the clear difference between Beatrix and Iris' maturity, one accepts the loss and reflects on her performance whilst the other has an emotional and mental breakdown after having been so utterly humiliated and schooled. Keep in mind that anything and everything that happened in the fight did not happen without Shadow's approval, the fact that Shadow let go of his blade only meant that he wanted to show them that he is never unarmed, to teach them the proper ways of combat by instilling *pain*. Loved it.
The scene with Sherry was not in the Manga or the Novel, so I got no comments there but she does give me main antagonist vibes and will most likely become a problem, however minuscule to Shadow, later down the road in subsequent seasons.
Shadow doesn't address himself in plural. Ăat's a mistake only a beginner Japanese learner would make. æ(Ware) is not plural, it is singular. Ăe plural is Warera or Ware-ware for very formal, which Ă°ey don't use much. Shadow always uses Ware(æ) and Waga(æă), which are both singular. He only uses Warera(æă) when he actually means it. Trust me, he is extremely fluent in Japanese. He knows how to speak like someone who is powerful.

@@danielantony1882 i thought he adressed not himself in plural. But entire Shadow Garden. Because both him and Shadow Garden girls use same sword techinques Cid taught them.
And Cid likes to compare his enemies to the girls (because noone can compare to him).
When he was fighting Viscount in first episodes - he compared Viscount to Alpha and said "you have more magic than Alpha, but cant use it".
And in season 2 he compared Mordred to Delta and said "i rank you below Delta" implying that even Delta can understand the difference in power and that Morder is more stupid than Delta
@@romanpyatibratov4361Again, the conjugations he uses are very specific and consistent. If he is addressing himself, he uses æ, if he is addressing the Shadow Garden, he uses æç. He never uses Ware to mean "us" and never uses Warera to mean "I".
When I watched this anime I got the impression that there were 2 stories being played out. One is the Cid story, where he gets to play around as Shadow and not really know anything else that really matters because he doesn't really want to know. The second story is of Shadow Garden, where they are actually trying to figure out what is happening in this world and trying to fix the situation, I guess.
there are 3 layers of story.
1st Comedic. About Cid and his chuuni adventures. Full of silly and edgy situations.
2nd Serious. About Shadow Garden fighting the Cult. Uncovering secrets of this organization and saving the world.
3rd Tragic. About rest of the people, affected by Cult. Kidnappings of Claire and Alexia for experiments, making Viscount's daughter into monster, killing Sherry's mother for artifact, killing Rose's father to remove the pawn from Perv's hands and etc.
And the fact, that those 3 layers sometimes mix together - is what makes this anime so fun to watch.
It struck me the most with Sherry.
Like first it was serious. Cid killed Lutheran, who was seeking for power. And you go "yeah! Cid killed this evil person with ease. Cool!".
But then Sherry comes in and sees her father-figure dead. And then it hits you "oh... she doesnt know Lutheran is bad and killed her mother. And now he is dead the exact same way her mother was killed. And she saw Shadow. Now she will blame him for murder of her mother and father-figure. That's so tragic and sad. And now she is all obsessed with killing Shadow"
Meanwhile anime goes on and shows how Cid fakes injuries in hospital, acting dead in front of Rose, turning it back into comedy.

Gotta love how Iris's dad the King told her you are so sure you are right you are willing to put the kingdom in danger ,Shadow goes to leave she pokes the bear claiming he is running away and he almost nukes the kingdom.
Shadow didn't teleport nor is he move so fast that Beatrix can't follow him. She describes Shadow's moves to be so natural to the point she simply can't perceive them. Like how she can't react to every single raindrop or every single blade of grass. So shadow didn't have to move fast to caught her by surprise.
And Shadow didn't think using artefact to be cheating or lower yourself. But he think that as long as one rely on borrowed power and not training, one can't truly become strong.

Aw man I wanted to see the Delta scene at the end with her slime suit lmao calling for Shadow.
Loved this ep. Busting out the crowbars, showing the contrast of Iris and Beatrix. One fueled by emotion while the other is stoic lol, especially after Shadow's pho-atomic that cleared the skies. Also the homage back to Aurora's blood magic when Cid rode on the water and then complained it doesn't channel magic well. I also love the constant slight disses he gives them, mostly Iris throughout. "Amateur" as she freaking tried to fake him out with a lunge to pin him lol.
I find it kinda cute because Beatrix doesn't seem like she has much emotion but she kept the wrapper from the burger that Cid gave her when she looked at it on the train and said something nice did happen.
Another beatdown on Rose, but it just goes to show you that she's gonna be a bigger part off the story. Sucks that she was stripped of everything by Lambda and then given the "666" moniker lol. At least we got a glimpse of her in ep. 1
Shadow gave off some INSANE VILLAIN ENERGY THIS EPISODE, but then again when doesnât he? I seriously loved this episode better than any anime episode Iâve ever watched ever, fun fact. Did you know child cid was saying âyameroâ in the flash back. What happens next season is even crazier btw and I thought it couldnât get better
Looking forward to season 2. I recently re-read the manga just to remind myself what goes on, and it's great. I just really hope the phrase 'she caked out' makes it through from the fan translation into both the official manga translation and into the anime. (don't know if it was accurate, but knowing the humor of the series, it probably was)
the manga is quite different from the Light Novel which is the source the anime uses, so its possible that its not included. The manga focusses much more on the comedy and adds a lot to it.

In the Light Novel Cid found out about them before he picked her up, so he brought her there with the intention of her getting revenge, it wasn't some comedy bit.
@@Haeruna Dude, he said translation: which is more inaccurate to the LN. And in the manga *volumes* removes and adds some comedy/scenes for the official release, making it more faithful to the LN compared to the monthly issue release youâd find online.
Which is a pity, since I find the monthly issue jokes more funnier.

For example, the line âThe time of lies *has passâ* was a dope-ass line in the fan translation. But the anime translation turned it into âItâs time to take off the disguise.â or something like that-it was meh. The LN was similar to the former âThe time of lies is over...â
The point is: if the people translating make a meh interpretation, then itâs not as cool. Simple as that. (And of course the line was in the source, itâs a plot point that Rose faints; just depends on what the translator felt like interpreting for the readers)

They missed how the "atomic" wasn't a nuke but he did completely change the weather over the whole capital. As far as the eye could see it was dark cloud cover and rain, then when he finished the sky was clear in all directions with a rainbow.

Initially yes but as storyline goes its became less likely.
It would be impossible for anyone in this series aside from Cid/Shadow to be able to use anything close to I Am Atomic. No one has anything close to his level of control over magic, not even Aurora/Diablos and she's the 2nd strongest character in the series. She even said in the Sanctuary that it should be impossible for one person to have that much power.

Okay, so, this may be an editing mistake but if not, then it is definitive proof that Cid didnât even release his full power for the purple dome. On acidâs information page, it mentions that whenever he starts getting serious, his eyes turn red, and as heâs hovering in the sky his eyes are normal. Plus, disregarding that fact, Cid would never actually empty out his magic for a flex, he would always leave enough to ensure he would still be just as untouchable just in case someone was still brave enough to go after him.
This and Mob Psycho 100 S3 are the best finales I have seen in recent time.

A little easter egg: If u pause the episode at the right time when Rose and Alpha arrives at Alexandria you can see in detail the two Shadow Garden's number that are sparring around the area. One of them, the pink haired one is number 559 ( aka Victoria ) and is a relevant character that we will know better later.

Well no, slime is not "artifact". Material, yes, but he specially mean equipment with runes etched on it, make the user's power several times than what it should be. Slime sword/equipment let the user utilize 90% to near 100% of their power, but never more. Yes, it's kinda cheating considering most other stuck at 10% or 50% at most, but then again, there's a reason why it's not popular. Those slime need some insane magic manipulation to use, and fall off easily once their user can't control their magic. It's very much Shadow garden exclusive lol
Slime doesn't give him any kind of power up, it just enables him to use his magic without nearly any of it being wasted in the transfer process from body to object (slime has a magic conductivity of about 99 percent). Furthermore, since slime matter is in a liquid state he can change its shape at will which enables him to make any kind of armor, weapon etc. It also serves as a perfect tool for disguise since he can manipulate slime to conceal himself and change the shape of his body and so on. None of these properties give him any power, they just help him to use his power efficiently. Besides, to be able to manipulate slime as well as Shadow requires extreme skill and immaculate magic control, and he is the only one with that level of mastery. Epsilon is the second best at magic control within the Shadow Garden but I'm sure she is nothing compared to him

All this Iris slander, lmao. I get that it's mainly for the meme, but anyone would look pathetic trying to (as she and all the knights believe) "protect the city" against what is essentially a god in human form. She grew arrogant and is probably on the verge of coming unhinged now, but I do kind of respect that unlike her father, who just wanted her to be a symbol and a political figure, Iris did always push towards using her power to protect Midgar and was determined enough to become what is most likely one of the 10ish most powerful people in the world before Shadowgarden showed up. She sadly grew up to believe her own hype though, since the citizens were basically worshipping her.
Still gotta suck to dedicate your life towards protecting your homeland and constantly having to push back against your father when it comes to how active you are allowed to be, only to finally see a threat that clearly needs someone of your caliber (so even her father finally wouldn't be able to say "let others handle it") only to be so outmatched that, if Shadow wasn't just kidding with that last attack, the entire kingdom would have been genocided with her not being able to do a single thing to stop it. Her pathetically crying was a nice touch, since Cid basically made her realize the entire path she took in life until now was meaningless.

This anime in generaly fromn sound to animation to story is pure 10/10 uronicly not even trash i would comapre it to more of a one punch man where everyone has their serious arcs where cid just serves as a problem solver to whatever conflic is going on but he can be everywhere at once.i mean he probebly can but he isnt since he wants to look cool. Lore and just how character change and develop is just beatful from Alexia reganing her passion and strenght while her stronger older sister losses everything she valued is just pure poetry to 666 unitonicly losing everything for power to save her kingdom

This anime was really good, the final battle was beautifully animated but my only critique is that they made Iris look too pathetic, in the manga she wasn't pathetic in that fight. I mean yes she felt completely useless, but she took it much better than the anime where she looked like a 4 year old. Also they made the pink haired girl a super yandere, I don't remember that in the manga as well.
Overall it was an amazing anime anyways, they nailed a lot of things that I thought they wouldnt in the manga. Like all casts or "I am atomic" were the perfect level of cringe + awesome.

Like, as Americans, we acknowledge that 9/11 jokes and generally jokes about plane hijackings to be in bad taste.

I think it's very likely. No, certain. There's always someone who will be offended, and even over things much smaller than this.
