Cid did use his Atomic attack but instead of destroying the whole city he directed it to the sky. If you pay attention, before he uses it the sky was cloudy and raining while after he did the attack it was a clear sky.
Always surprised by how many people don't realize this. The girls even comment on how the sky is clear right afterwards.
In novel.he didn't tho..he just cancelled it but mana cleared the sky

Plus, the fight wasn't that long either, it lasted only a few minutes and concluded inside the Stadium itself.

Something a lot of people forget is that English doesn’t exist in that world. So when cid says I Am Atomic everyone around him thinks he’s casting some terrifying ancient spell
Same with the names since we the viewers understand the word play but it completely goes over their heads in the show

The thing about Cid is that he doesn't even know the Cult is real. He is just having a blast roleplaying his dream character and thinks that all his group is playing his game out of consideration. So it is hilarious when he is saving everyone without even realizing.

I loved this episode so much the way the animated him perception blitzing them was crazy literally couldn’t even see him move and the finale part when he started laughing and asked why he would be running I can only imagine the fear going through their minds after seeing that he easily had the power to destroy everything
Important things cool to know about this episode:
1. Shadow, as some comments already pointed out, did in fact used the atomic blast. Shadow actually felt insulted when Iris said he was running away and for a second he really intended to blow away the whole kingdom. But the community has come to the agreement that the little Cid flashback we saw shows him saying "Yamero" which means "stop" and that's why he redirected the attack to the sky.
2. The credits for this episode show 666 instead of Rose for the cast members, cool easter egg.
3. The scene showing Sherry surrounded by Shadow wanted posters is actually anime only.
4. The anime director animated by himself the Iris black and white scene, this shows how much love was put into this anime.
5. S2 comes in october this year, HYPE!

You will notice Cid said "playtime is over" in ep 2 and 5 before he defeated the villains. So you know when he said it here, he was not kidding. About to atomic the sky lol.
In the original source, the Shadow wears a mask, and in moments when it is not, his face always seems to be covered by a shadow and the other characters cannot see it. But it was probably taken away for cinematography, so that the viewer could always see the face of the protagonist.
19:40 I love that scene, it shows perfectly that Alexia believes she can be that much strong cause she saw shadow fighting style is not that diffrent from her meanwhile Iris just got drowning in despair deeper and deeper cause of pressure she puts on herself to the point she's hypocrytical, cause most destruction around town was made by her.

I saw a comment on another video saying when Cid was about to Atomic the kingdom, the Younger Cid's lips didn't look like it said Atomic, but said Yamero (Japanese for Stop) making him think that Cid was about to Atomic the kingdom, but that will make him a Villain and not The Eminence In Shadow, so he just nuked the sky instead.

There is a reason why Shadow noted that the Artifact Blade was made of mythril.
All materials have some degree of magical conductivity. Most don’t go past 10%. Mythril is sought after because it has 50% conductivity. There is one material better.
Slimes have 99% conductivity. Basically, the use magic to hold themselves together. There have been attempts to make the useful for humans, but were written off as incompatible.

The Royal Bushin style of swordplay is pretty new, compared to the more popular Bushinryu. Iris was hoping that with her victory in the tournament and the propagation of the art, she might’ve had more political pull.
And, yes, Claire was declared the winner by default. Iris was in no mood to continue in the tournament and Mundane Mann/Shadow was disqualified.

Soo good, I really hope next season he fights someone really strong that can challenge him even if of course he whoops them in the end.. I just PRAY they have the same director and audio people because those two things elavated this from a good anime to a GREAT anime.. Bro the eminence in shadow episode 20 was mind blowning , super gorgeous smooth animation , iris / beatrix v.s shadow fight interesting , possible perv run way aka oriana kingdom arc , rose join shadow gaeden , probably future alexia join shadow harder or help shadow to destroy cult of diablos , beatrix searching her niece aka alpha / future elf arc reference and next arc lawless city arc with unexpected plot twist . I give this anime 8.7 out 10 rating .

(not really just a good flame thrower,) And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share. (literally a fire starter, if we were meant to believe Iris, the atomic Cid did earlier in the city was an artifact going haywire/blowing up artifacts sure better be better than what we saw) (all you had was the hope and dreams of those you held yourself above/better than, who you looked down upon) And then to be reminded what real power is.
When Cid n Beatrix were clashing they always went like sonic speed, but when Iris joined the fight always slowed down for her. It s kinda sad rlly

I don't really think iris had ego or pride tbh, she just had too many responsibilities so can't blame her behaviour since she wanted to be strong for her people
Cid is the one who is clueless. This is all just a game to him. He doesn't realize there actually is a cult and isn't trying to fight the good fight, he is just having fun. The only reason he entered the tournament in the first place was so he could play the dark horse underdog. He stepped in because Rose stole his thunder and he wanted the attention back on him. The rest of Shadow Garden is fighting the good fight as they really do want to defeat the cult.

The reason cid isn't going against the cult is the simple fact that he doesn't believe they exist as you see that he believes the girls are just putting on a show
