I actually think it's more than that. Iris's entire worth is built around how strong she is. She cant do politics well at all for someone in her position, so she's built her entire reputation and influence around being the strongest around, and passifying the people through that strength. That's why she thought she HAD to win, and why she views things only through winning in a battle of some kind, because thats literally all she has. Getting absolutely rolled like this must be a huge blow to her, and she'll likely cling onto whatever ideas she's fed next in order to grasp onto something and protect her ego from combusting.

One of the funniest points of this battle is Iris is only freaking out so very badly BECAUSE she is so damned strong and well trained, only someone of her level could sense the absolute danger radiating from Mundane. I LOVE that shite! I can not wait for ya'll's reaction to one of the most badass last anime episodes EVER. Go on...tell me I'm fing wrong.
So as to lupa's question of "Why is he so strong" IT honestly isnt explained in the anime how he became so disgusting. First off remember he had mastered every martial art he deemed useful when he was a human in the regular world. This includes weapon fighting styles. After being born into this new world and having magic he CONSTNANTLY broke down and re built the magical pathways in his body to make them more and more efficient. He can output higher levels of magic than any one person in the rest of the world that we know of. He is effectively disgustingly efficient and has a massive Magic pool to work with.
I actually didn't know that about the magic stuff, that's actually pretty cool. Not much different than just being normally overpowered, but the explanation is more satisfying

I'm really invested in Rose's story. I thought she was just going to be a filler character for comedic purposes. She actually has won Cid's interest to some degree because she is essentially the main character he always wanted to help in the shadows. I just didn't think it would be her. Makes sense, she does have talent and is a genuine character. But perhaps too innocent to have the perspective to comprehend the overpowering evil which Cid protects her from. Edit: I have read the light novels but not divulging too much to not spoil.

As for why Rose couldn't kill Perv, it's probably because she had already tried once and failed, and thus knew that Perv is stronger than her by a lot. Plus, she also probably understood that killing him wouldn't really change the issue, as her Father would still suffer (since there are other who take control of the situation) and she would be pursued more harshly.
I think one of the main strengths of the show next to the comedy it the strong character work. Not just the main character, but everyone gets some meat on them bones. What looks like a trope character has their own goals and drives. Most of that happens in the novels, not in the first season of the anime, but you won't believe how much of whats happening is just the setup.

This fight is amazing on so many levels. The thing that sets this apart from so many other series is how it is fully aware of the nature of fights when it comes to people of true high skill. The way that he makes her psych out and everyone else too is because when you get to the level of combat they are, fights play out more like a chess match then a boxing duel. That is very intellectual of the series, like in chess matches where they participants can call a game shortly after it begins as they can read their moves and know their defeat, same thing happens here. What Cid does during the fights is take advantage of his opponents “battle sense” and the way they read moves and gives of “false signals” to throw them for a loop as they know at their level anyone who makes such an intentional move has the power to follow through, and this clearly scares her to death as she has never encountered someone so in tune with the fight. This is also how he was able to fool her into thinking he drew his sword as well.
I have rewatched ep20 alone for like 5-6 times when it aired just because the whole episode was peak af starting from music, the dialogues and obviously how shadow was dealing with kids.
