      I agree. I love Obi-Wan as a character, but this single moment has me at odds all the time. How could you be so selfish? I'm sure theirs a number of things going on in his head, granted the situation and circumstances are so unbelievably dire theirs genuinely nothing real I can compare it to, but even with that. You should have finished him off, for his own sake, yours and the Galaxy, counting on the force to snuff out its own chosen one I think was silliness and yes he did eventually fulfill the prophecies but setting that aside, this moment of weakness from Kenobi I almost feel is unforgettable, you had one job, not even trying to make a joke. You must kill Anakin, to know him as personally as he did, the extent and full potential he could be for Good or for worse, this at least should've given him the strength to finish the job.. but all that aside I digress.. Bane discribed the sensation of being saberless is like being naked, defenseless. In my mind, it's like the wand in Harry Potter, the wizards feel powerless without (even if it is such a catalyser) it's like an old companion, even some soldiers and fighters get attached to their weapon. His saber, represent all these years of fighting, all his duels, all his challenges, all his sufferings, all his joys, it "followed" him everywhere during these years since the aftermath of the battle of Geonosis, and thanks to the tv show... we know it was a lot, a long long journey... To Obi-Wan, Anakin’s lightsaber was what he believed the only thing that was left of him. Even though Padme in her dying moments asked Obi-Wan not to give up on him and she believed there was still good in him. Though Obi-Wan wasn’t so sure.
    That’s why he kept both his and Anakin’s in a concealed box 🗃️. He only wanted to remember Anakin as a great Jedi and a good friend. And when Luke was of age, he could pass it to him in his journey into becoming a Jedi.
    He needed it to help him not think about what happened to Anakin or the fact that he tried to kill him.
    Now that he was Vader, he didn’t deserve Anakin’s lightsaber. It was only for a Jedi.

      Anakin would never give up a fight on his own; neither would Vader.
      Him reaching for his lightsaber while being burned alive was a sign of his Jedi training.
      Obi-Wan was dealt a hand that involved the “Trolley Situation”. No matter what Obi-wan did, there was no right answer. Does he pull the switch and execute Anakin? Does he do nothing at all? All he could think to do was pick up Anakin’s lightsaber. Obi-Wan supposedly didn’t deal with absolutes, his way of conveying that was by leaving Anakin to die.
      Was he right? Maybe. It just reminds me of the Neutral Planet in Futurama.

      That is not only poetic but the most accurate way to look at this. People ask what Vader would have been like if he had not burned on mustafar but what you say makes me think Vader would not be Vader without being burned. Vader sabotaged Anakin in that fight with arrogance sealing the his fate to be born as Vader forever. We even see later that it is the pain. Of his body that reminds Anakin of why he embraced the dark side. If Anakin had not burned and had lived on with padame in his life or even without her his love for others would have bled through and he would’ve returned to the light side even without Luke’s help. Now this is pure conjecture but what you said feels right.

    In the novel Obi-Wan won the fight by shorting out the circuitry in Anakin's prosthetic hand causing him to drop the light saber as he came at Obi-Wan
    The "I have the high ground" statement was to stop Anakin from wondering why Obi-Wan still had hope of winning.
    That's why the light saber was on the ground even though Anakin still has the prosthetic hand that held it.
    Between the amputations and shorted out circuitry Anakin has no functioning limbs when Obi-Wan picked up the light saber.
    Anakin could only flail helplessly.
    As Obi-Wan held Anakin's light saber he decided against trying to save Anakin or even putting him out of his misery out of pure anger, he was perfectly OK with letting him suffer until he succumbed to his injuries or the lava caught up with him.
    Obi-Wan eventually came to not only regret that decision , but to be ashamed of it.
    He should have tried to save Anakin, when he walked away and left him to die horribly , it confirmed everything Anakin had come to believe about the Jedi.

    As designer one eloquently said ",don't touch that's my shit, don't touch that's my shit!".. I think it fits well here with anakins very likely feelings. The saber that vader builds to replace the old one was just a bigger fusion of his 1st saber (the emitter) and the last (hilt).. I think it's interesting that for a gut teing to kill and bury anakin, would rebuild his weapon as a fusion of two of anakins preferred sabers..he took the same emmiter type as his green saber, and the hilt of his final jedi saber and made his sith weapon...its only difference is the size and dimensions of a few parts and color...why would a man who is trying to forger his past rebuild his weapon in the image of both his jedi weapons after he was knighted??? Wouldn't u want to completely change the entire blueprint of the sith weapon to seperate yourself as far as possible from "anakin"?? I don't understand the connection of Anakin to his Lightsaber. He and the saber were one. It was with him more than any other Force infused object; it's said that the crystal chooses the Jedi. In this case, the crystal reflected nothing of Anakin's attack on the Tuskens, or his deep slippage to the dark side, before his battle with Obi-Wan. When Luke activated the saber, it didn't call out like a beacon across the Force to Anakin/Vader? I would assume the crystal's Force sensitivity is over estimated.
    Good expose on Anakin's final thoughts. His mind didn't wander to Padme, or her well being. Hate consumed him - not strong enough to have one last jab at Obi-Wan who knelt to collect the saber. Did he know Sidious was on his way to rescue him and to hang on? Was this it? No voice of Qui-Gon Jinn? Or his mother?

The idea was that while Anakin and Obi-wan where initially dueling, Anakin's lightsaber was blue. However during the duel, they reached a moment where Anakin fully embraced the Dark Side, and as a result Anakin's blade turned red. This would leave a plot hole about when Obi-wan gave it to Luke its blade is blue again, but its an interesting idea.

    • @nyaalilith
      @nyaalilith Před 6 měsíci +2

      Personal recommendation:
      - Start with Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, by James Lucino. It's a great book, and so long as you've watched the 6 movies that's more than enough a background. I personally read this one first, followed by novelization of episode 4, 5, and 6 when I started reading books. It was an excellent start.
      - Thus, at some point after Dark Lord, you may wanna read the novelizations of episodes 4, 5, and 6, followed by something else for variety if you would like, followed by novelizations of episodes 1, 2, and 3. You could also alternate, such as novelization of episode 4, some other book; episode 5, some another book,...
      Other than Dark Lord and the 6 novelizations, you might wanna read early on:
      - The Thrawn trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command).
      - Tales of the Jedi & Dark Lords of the Sith (it's two parts of one creation).
      - Darth Plagueis (I think the novel bears his name as the title?), being the story of Sidious's master.
      ^^ Those would be my starter recommendations. From there now follow more options for later.
      Some other interesting books:
      - Rebel Mission To Ord Mantell, it could go well right before reading the novelization of episode 5.
      - Shadow of the Empire, it would go great in between the novelizations of episodes 5 and 6.
      - Labyrinth of Evil could go greatly just before reading the novelization of episode 3.
      - The Courtship of Princess Leia, it talks about events from sometime after the 6 films.
      - A few other books: Shatterpoint, Dark Rendezvous, The Approaching Storm, Jedi Trial, Shadow Hunter, Cloak of Deception.
      Some other trilogies for later on (in no particular order other than the order in which I'm remembering):
      - The Han Solo trilogy (Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn).
      - The Clone Wars trilogy (The Clone Wars, Wild Space, No Prisoners).
      - Dark Forces trilogy (Soldier for the Empire, Rebel Agent, Jedi Knight).
      - Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina (We Don't Do Weddings, Nightlily, Hammertong).
      - Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy (The Mandalorian Armor, Slave Ship, Hard Merchandise).
      - Dark Empire trilogy (I think the books are simply entitled Dark Empire I, Dark Empire II, and Empire's End).
      - The Fate of the Jedi trilogy (Outcast, Omen, and Abyss).
      In short: I would advise, out of these books, to start with Dark Lord The Rise of Darth Vader as your first Star Wars book, and to read the novelizations of the 6 films early on. From then choose any options that call your attention, but consider reading early on the Thrawn trilogy, Tales of the Jedi and Dark Lords of the Sith, as well as Darth Plagueis. This way you have one specific book to start with, followed by the novelizations of the 6 movies, as well as 6 other books to go besides. Hopefully that's a good starter selection without it being too overwhelming to choose.
      When you're done with those, then you might wanna pick up any of the other books or trilogies I mentioned that may call your attention. I have all of those I mentioned and some others as audiobooks; I'm sure there's also e-books of them all, and hopefully physical copies as well - though some of these might be out of print. (A bird told me that, should anyone need to hear it, there's lots of stuff to be found out in the open seas.)
      After those initial book recommendations, having had a solid start with good reads, you may also wanna research other books that you may wanna read, as obviously there's more than the ones I mentioned - and I didn't mention no comic books, of which there's many a great one as well.
      I also can't speak much about the new "canon", most if not all of this is from the Expanded Universe (at least as far as I can remember). I haven't paid much attention to the newer stuff, partly because I still got so much to read from the Expanded Universe. However, if you're into the new stuff, it could perhaps also go well after those initial recommendations.
      If I were to recommend only one book, I'd suggest you start with Dark Lord The Rise of Darth Vader. Considering not only what video we're commenting on, but the fact that it's an amazing Star Wars book to begin your reading with. Yet ultimately, of course treat these recommendations as guidelines rather than as rules, useful considering as, with how much Star Wars reading material is out there, it can be helpful to have a few select starter options.
      May the force be with you! :)

    • @sombraarthur
      @sombraarthur Před 6 měsíci

      That has more to do with the Sith code than you might think.
      An apprentice, in order to become the master, will use any subterfuge or any advantage he could get, in order to bring down his (more) powerful master.
      Therefore, if a master disdained the lightsaber, the apprentice would naturally put a lot of importance to that weapon, all the while they will learn and try to perfect the powers taught to them by their masters.

      @sombraarthur Před 6 měsíci

      @@chadflanaganCFC Of course Maul was proud of what his double bladed lightsaber represented, and what the Dark Saber also represented. Still, it does not detract anything from the Sith Code, where the Apprentice would seek any advantage he could muster, in order to defeat his master. The last "teaching" to a Sith Lord was to take his master's place, usurp his power and add to it, as Darth Bane instituted so long ago, before Anakin's time, in the Rule of Two. One to muster the power, one to covet it. And in the clash, only the strongest would survive, making the Sith even more powerful, and an even stronger apprentice needed.
      Dooku was fixated on the sabers, because he was a duelist, his own personal philosophy relied that "a duel is better to settle disputes and confrontations than wars". Dooku was never the apprentice Sidious wanted, he was bait to push Anakin to kill, and in that, he achieved his master's goals, and the Rule of Two goal as well.
      Dooku was not even as powerful as Sidious, so, he chose another one who was, and then "initiated" him by killing the old apprentice. That is how a new apprentice was taken, according to the Rule of Two.

    I think I should point out that in Legends Lore the Kiber crystals that the Sith used were synthetic, and Star Wars Disney cannon Lore they were Kiber crystals that had been forced to cry or have been bled.

    taking his lightsaber was same as him saying you deserve to suffer as you die, no easy way for you to end, and left anakin to burn to death slowly as he took the lightsaber to deny his the chance of a quick and relatively painless end.

      He should have killed Vader, but that obviously wasn't going to happen. In reality, the whole Obi-Wan series never should have happened.

      @@Gildog77 As Qui-Gon said, follow the will of the force.
      It would seem no Jedi could take down Palpatine, it took the betrayal of his apprentice.
      If Vader had died, who could we count on to turn against Pals at the right moment.
      Anakin/ Vader was the Chosen one.

    I don't think that, in that moment, Obiwon was thinking about passing it to his children at all. That idea most likely came later..
    I do very much believe that he was thinking something along the lines of :
    " You don't deserve this anymore "

    • @trianglemoebius
      @trianglemoebius Před 6 měsíci

      Agreed. In fact, I don't think he thought about passing it to Luke at all until the moment he saved Luke from the Tuskens and realised he'd be much better off with it.

    I’ve often wondered if, in the years after, Obiwan might have though about how much suffering he could have prevented if, instead just taking Vader’s light saber and assuming he was finished, he had just had the strength to finish the job and given him a small force shove a few feet into the lava. It certainly would have been just, after what he had done just that day or so. But I guess the stories that came later would not have been as good either.

      And that is precisely why ther Jedi are weak.
      They do not kill, Obi Wan could have saved the whole galaxy of being burned, the whole Jedi order to be executed and destroyed, and the termination of every other Jedis in the Universe, but two.
      Sometimes, killing is necessary. One cannot prevent the future, but some people who have too much power must be thoroughly and absolutely destroyed. Obliterated. Otherwise, they will seek reveng and eventually destroy you. THis was exactly what happened between Anakin and Obi Wan,
      Had it been Obi Wan that died that day instead of Qui Gon, Anakin would have never rebelled. Qui Gon failed Obi Wan, as he left the most dumb, unwise and stupid Knight he could have trained.

    I find it funny that the swing Obi-wan did is called a "forbidden move" when all he did was swing and cut Anakins limbs off. Has a name and everything XD. What's next? He's gonna stab a door like qui gon did and it's a forbidden move called "the force thrust"?
