Obi-Wan broke my heart in the Kenobi series when he saw Anakin's face after shattering Darth Vader's mask and he started crying and said "I'm sorry, Anakin... for all of it... I'm sorry". Ewan McGregor is a very powerful actor, and I never thought Obi-Wan was responsible for Anakin's downfall like he blamed himself for. Hayden Christiansen is also a very amazing actor. It's hard to believe that Anakin was his first acting role. I totally disagree with all the flak he got. I think he did a great job.

It wasn't his first acting role. Hayden Christiansen had done other acting roles prior to Star Wars. Off the top of my head he was in an episode of the original Goosebumps TV series from the 90's based on the children's book series of the same name. The episode was Night of the Living Dummy III.

Sorry, but objective good and evil canonically exist in Star Wars, and canonically have the ability to warp people's minds and personalities. This isn't the real world where there is room for argument. The dark side twisted Anakin's mind and turned him into Vader. It's directly written that way in the story.

This is really just a roundabout way of explaining how and why different people were able to rationalize the difference between Anakin and Vader. Obi Wan couldn't operate with resolve and focus if a man he had known for much of his adult life and helped raise from a boy had become an evil and twisted menace. Luke had to believe that there was good in Vader and that Anakin could still come forward because he hadn't known either of them and wanted a father - especially his real father - to come into his life. The truth was somewhere in the middle. Vader was forged during the Clone Wars and people close to him didn't even realize it. He wasn't some distinct schizophrenic break or dark essence. He was a result of Anakin compromising higher principles and morals either to satisfy his own feelings or as a military leader. But even so, the good man he was remained - simply buried beneath guilt, lies, anger, and pain. The self-loathing is what allowed Vader to rise as a persona and Anakin to retreat.

    • @Irish_Georgia_Girl
      @Irish_Georgia_Girl Před 4 měsíci

All very true! IMO Anakin basically behaved like a spoiled brat throwing a bad tantrum... but on a sociopathic scale. I know it's much more complex than that... but I mean that was how it seemed to me to start. Like when he was complaining to Padmè about Obi-Wan in episode 2, I think and started pitching a fit screaming that Obi-Wan was jealous and holding him back and threw something. Yoda pinned it when he told Anakin attachment leads to jealousy and that was the "shadow of greed" & when he was a kid he went into how "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to the dark side ". His loss of his mother and inability to save her led him to fear losing Padmè and do anything to avoid it and imo set the ball rolling. I wonder if he hadn't lost his mom if he would've behaved differently regarding Padmè...

Honestly, I think it is more along the lines of Anakin having been taught to suppress certain parts of himself while he was being trained as a jedi, and the aspects or traits he suppressed eventually ended up forming Vader. Thus, jedi Anakin and Vader were, therefore, each only half of the true Anakin Skywalker. They were the same person on some level but at the same time they were each incomplete, the first time you actually see a complete Anakin not counting when he was a child, is in the Asoka series when he and Asoka meet in the world between worlds I believe it was called. At that time he was essentially a merger of both Anakin and Vader.

Ive always thought the dichotomy was purely symbolic. Something Vader needed so he could come to grips with what he uas done and why.
They ARE the same person. As Vader he couldn’t admit he made mistakes. As Anakin he could. This to me was what was confirmed and conveyed in Ashoka. Not only could Luke forgive Anakin, but because of Luke Anakin could forgive himself.
Vader is Anakin’s darkside, not unlike when we saw Yoda’s dark side in Clone Wars. Just given a name. Not a different entity, but a part of Yoda that he needed to acknowledge, not fear, but also keep at bay. Anakin lost that fight on the night of order 66, but thanks to Luke (and Obi-wan) was able to do the same.
At least thats what I think. What Luke was doing was “hate the sin, not the sinner”.

      This is right.
It was all a matter of coping with the Darkside. In the end this is true for us in this Galaxy too. The hero and the shadow. Or, to put in another context, the flesh and spirit. Good and Evil, Sin and Sinless can exist in the same person. It is the struggle of our existence. Let us remember that none of us are as far removed from Vader as we think.

That doesn't mean when we do evil we are free of responsibility once we start regretting our actions Anakin specifically pushes that notion that he as Vador is separate from and killed Anakin because he can't reconcile the conflict with in himself, but if Vador was a separate entity from Anakin and had killed Anakin there would be no conflict within him at all. I think anakin has personality disorder and his force sensitivity didn’t help. I believe that he believed that anakin and Vader are two different people but as we all know it’s the same person in a suit. I can also say that since anakin believes that then it’s not far fetched to say that anakin was not responsible for order 66 or any acts committed by Vader, but Vader is really just Anakins alter ego for when he’s angry n puts the blame on that but if he has personality disorder than that disease dissolves any blame put on anakin because his brain can’t distinguish the 2 causing him to go insane making it in his mind easier to slaughter the younglins and turn obi wan n the Jedi

Leia was right, and I'm so sick of this BS. Vader and Anakin were literally always portrayed as the same person in the first 6 movies - that's the entire reason why Luke was frustrated with Obi-Wan for misleading him about who Vader really was.
Fans and producers are just really uncomfortable with the child murder he did in episode 3, and so invented this entire moronic notion of separate identities.
Anakin is like every other person out there, he has evil and goodness within him. It's great that he fulfilled his destiny at the end of his life, but that will never excuse the atrocities that he actively chose to commit every step of the way.
Getting high off the dark side doesn't mean anything - we prosecute people that do crimes while drunk or intoxicated all the time irl.

Yes Anakin did terrible things as Darth Vader should be held accountable for but he was also tricked and twisted by the Sith along fearfully misunderstood by the Jedi themselves so he should be giving some pity. I think Vader is the coping mechanism for Anakin after cutting Mace Windus hand off. He needs to accept the persona of Darth Vader in this moment, because the Anakin-part in him wants to save padme. And if he didn't, Palpatine would have killed him right after Mace windu. But in this moment he let the darkness and the power of the dark side enter his heart, which is like being possessed by a demon. You couldn't blame a possessed child (in a horror movie) for all the things he did while the demon was in him, before the exorcist turned him back. Same with Vader. Yes, it's still Anakin. Is Lucifer and Satan the same individual?
    To paraphrase Lucas:
“Luke (and Leia) were born with the same potential, and the same capacity to do good or evil.” It all comes down to the choices we make.
Lucifer was greatest amongst the his angelic peers. His knowledge of that became his flaw. A flaw that eventually led him to turn on his peers. He was cast out of the highest heaven by his peers for that reason. And over time, that ate away at him. He became twisted into the entity that we call Satan. In Christian tradition, Lucifer was cast down to Hell and was changed into horrendous and icon image of Satan.
Lucas drew inspiration from that for Anakin \ Vader’s character arch and fall. A little bit of Vader always lived in Anakin and a little bit of Anakin lived in Vader. But Anakin didn’t truly become Darth Vader as we know him until his transformation between the loss of his limbs and the burns to being imprisoned by the suit, which prevented the chance of any meaningful healing. This image of himself, was a constant reminder for him that he was no longer Anakin, that Anakin had died on Mustafar, which looked like Hell for that reason. Obi-Wan viewed it similar, except that hurt was still there connecting Anakin and what he did to Vader.
So he got his son trained to kill his father for him, because he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

It takes me most of my Will on a daily basis to keep them at bay.
Meanwhile, I also understand where Leia is coming from. It's why on this world, when a violent crime is perpetrated by someone who is proven to have some flavor of Split Personality Disorder, they don't get sent to jail, but rather a high security psych ward. (Six of one, half-dozen of the other, they're still getting removed from society.)

The fact of the matter is that as Anakin the need for more power, influence and recognition of his abilities was already in full swing. The slaughter of an entire tribe of Tuskan raiders was also blood on Anakin's hands. He failed to save Padme and then had to lie in the bed he'd made. as complex as it sounds, they’re definitely they same individual. especially when u realize how the force works. there’s even dark lords who necessarily didn’t do evil w the darkness they felt in the pit of their stomach. anakin let himself fall to the dark side due to being weak towards manipulation, & using power to sort out most of his situations, since he was naturally strong in the force. as strong as he is, he was just as weak to words. he wasn’t meant to be the chosen, luke was. luke understood the closest to the balance of temptation & teetering between sides when influenced.

@@bruski894 thats the beauty of it. sidious felt anakin could be the one. he tried to get ahead of it, only to help birth the one from the vessel he tried to manipulate. i dont believe there is a one, just the product of ur choices when u try to break the natural cycle of the force. luke being the one in that moment is purely because he seen the complexities of the force in more simpler terms. he was really the only to get that close to understanding both sides. even tho other lords did explore both sides & thought they understood it too

【Shades Finnish Pirates】The reason was what i thought, little bit click baity video title and kinda degrading. "Oh Obi wan did not giggle as Anakin burned, he was rather glad only that the image of his former padawn was erased from the new dark entity called Darth Vader that he could not bring himself to kill and how could i not see that?" You underestimate my connection to the force, i am a christian and these stories hit deep so understanding the characters do so too so 1x person proved title misleading thus far. Mr G. Lucas wanted to make people interested in spiritual again with his movies, in my case he succeeded and these are not simple concepts to throw around at very least not ones for making assumption that the viewer has a lesser way of thinking about the movies on the title.

Alcoholics and addicts often become different people do horrible things in their addictions. We all hope that they find redemption and peace but that doesn’t absolve them of their crimes and misdeeds. Anakin doesn’t get to just say “it wasn’t really me” and walk away any more than the alcoholic/addict. Yes, he’s redeemed but not without consequence.

I believe that Anakin suffered from multiple personalities , one ( Anakin ) was a selfless hero that would die for what he believes in .
The other personality was Darth Vader , a selfish, brutal avatar of darkness .
Anakin was born with Darth Vader inside of him .
Just like the force itself , Anakin was light and dark .
He was born as balance , he had to master both sides to fulfill his destiny .

Vader is Anakin's "shadow" self, the Jungian archtype representing all the repressed parts of the person's psyche. Thanks to the Jedi, Anakin had to suppress and repress so much of himself. His shadow began to encompass all the things the Jedi taught him to deny himself, including the positive feelings he has for those he cared about. He'd already embraced his inner darkness because that's where they taught him to put his love. The Dark side showed him that he could keep his emotions and become even more powerful to protect his loved ones. But all things are a means to be exploited for power for the Sith. So he didn't realise all the sacrifices it asked of him until all he had left were his hate and pain. Then, finally, he succeeded in suppress all those things, the "good" in him that Luke saw, caged and protected by Vader.

i mean it doesn’t really matter if it is to sides as it is two sides of the same person as if he didn’t love or feel as he once did he would not have become a Sith as they are one in the same because it was an actual choice.a hard one and one under extreme circumstances but one he made as ultimately if he wasn’t sky walker he wouldn’t have turned or he would have for totally different reasons.if you call yourself a different name and were a mask in real life its not that your a different person as in fact in many cases you actually become more bold because you feel like no one knows it’s actually you.anything you project be it with control or without is still you like it or not as if it wasn’t then it would simply not be you this is why meditation exists and so on but ultimately if you are self aware of whatever your doing and you can change your actions and choose not to then it is in fact you regardless of why you do something unless you really don’t even recognize or realize you have done something. 6:30

My impression is that when a Sith kills another Sith, the life force of the dead Sith lives on in the killer. Hence the Sith rule of 2. The apprentice kills the master and in so doing the master lives on in the apprentice.
This was actually the emperor’s plan in Rise of Skywalker. To be killed by either Ray or Ben and in so doing live on.
Based on this, I think Darth Vader really was born when Anakin killed Count Docku. At least I think that was Palpatine’s plan, but Anakin was too strong and it was only later that Darth Vader was able to really take control.

For me personally I think Vader is a combination of dark side personalities all rolled into one. Where did Vader truly come from? Was Vader always in anakin? Or did Vader manifest through events? Attack of the clones Vader was present when anakin attacked the sand people. His speech to padme about hoping that the kiss he gave her doesn't become a scar. A mechanical menace similar to that of anakin in phantom menace. I think that angel line asking padme if she is an angel. Which applies that demons exist. Twin sun represents dual personality. Is Vader from tatooine. Revan came to that planet at least twice. Star map that leads to Star forge is out there in that dune sea. Whose to say that isnt Vader. Krayt dragons also reside on tatooine. That's the point I'm trying to make when trying to determine whether or not Vader and anakin are really one in the same.

This was the single most traumatic experience for both Anakin and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan was literally weeping the entire time and for years later he was still traumatized to the point he forgotten who he was as a Jedi and a person. He wasn't "glad" because he never accepted Darth Vader and Anakin were separate beings the way Anakin kept correcting him over and over. That's the key takeaway, Anakin wanted to believe he had transformed but no one accepted that, not even himself entirely. Very misleading topic imo.

And then Disney turned Obi-Wan into the biggest douche the entire Star Wars Universe had ever seen by letting one of the most dangerous entities live after beating Vader.
That's what happens when you hire based on diversity and not talent or merit. Characters are as smart as the writers behind them, seeing how moronic both Kenobi and Thrawn were... that says a lot about Disney!

Why do the Jedi never take any responsibility for Anakin becoming Darth Vader? If not for their failure to acknowledge his abilities, accomplishments, and opinions it would have been much more difficult for Palpatine to exploit the strained relationship between Anakin and the council.

There was a ton of Jedi only 2 sith. Then Anakin & Palpatine killed almost all of the Jedi off. At the end of Revenge of the Sith in 2005 there were basically only 4 known force users. Palpatine & Vader. Obi-Wan & Yoda. Sounds like Anakin brought balance to the force. Maybe the Jedi through their arrogance and ignorance assumed that the prophecy was a positive for the Jedi.

To be honest, Anakin didn’t fully become Vader until he got news of Padme’s death. Or more accurately, it was at that time that he mentally painted the narrative of his dichotomous personality.
Up until the moment he used the Force against his wife, he could justify everything he did as being for Padme; to save Padme. And, thinking he was responsible for her death, he told himself that it wasn’t Anakin who did all that, that it was actually Vader.
But by exempting himself from responsibility, he forfeited his own agency. He saw himself as powerless before this Vader personality he thought he had. He despised himself, but felt hopeless to be anything but a monster.

You guys act like people don’t change for the worse 🤦🏽‍♂️ Anakin and “Vader” are the same … He was a slave, Taken from his mother, Forced to be a Jedi when he wasn’t indoctrinated young enough to not have attachments beyond his training. Gaslit, and mocked all the same, Had to hide his marriage from the counsel, all while being groomed, Enticed and Manipulated by the chancellor. He is impatient, ill tempered and Overconfident all while having a sense of morality but when Anakin is angry, All that morality seems to get thrown out the window. He wanted to save padme but he knew he couldn’t so his only choice was to learn the nature of the darkside which seemed like his only hope. All for padme to die anyway and apparently to him, His Child. Obi-wan cut all his of his extremities off and left him to burn. He survives artificially, Only to suffer and be a slave once more. What else does he have but his anger? What else does he have but his hate? It’s not a split personality but a person who was already short tempered and on more than one occasion, Let that anger take hold of you him before ever becoming darth vader that had just lost everything. If that doesn’t turn you into a monster, I don’t know what will.

No, Vader is Anakin, or at least a part of Anakin, and always has been. Anything else is a way to help him escape any accountability for his terrible decisions and abhorrent actions. He never reached his potential as a Jedi, or a Sith and failed as both. He was too conflicted and easily ruled by his emotions and selfishness.
