Reasons I Quickly Sold My Ford Lightning (EV Electric Truck)

- It's true. After owning my Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat EV Truck for only 6 months, I decided to sell it. In this video, I will explain why and the straw that broke the camel's back. Hopefully, this video will help you figure out if this truck is ready for you to be in the driver's seat.

so basically what you're saying is, its a great truck as long as you....
1: don't use public charges because you don't fit.
2: don't use it to do truck stuff.
3: don't drive too far
4: don't use the app.
5: don't ever attempt to resell it because you'll lose your ass in depreciation.
And don't talk about what you paid for the home charger, electrician install, or any home solar system.
@@factchecker9358 He will be able to use that for his house and he will have other electric vehicles. (if he don't already). So all that will get use and be ready when he needs it. So not really money wasted.
As far as losing money, I feel he did great and lost very little. Some people just like buying and selling all the time and some like keeping same vehicle till wheels fall off. I feel he is the former. He will probably do the same with the CyberTruck. (Here today, gone tomorrow)
He basically doesn't need a big truck, maybe he doesn't need a truck at all. For what would he need one - for his ego ;-) And then he doesn't find a good parking spot, it's just too big.
Your fucking crazy if you spent that much on a truck. Since you did it on payments, you clearly could not afford it.
More like
1-don’t buy if you have to use public chargers a lot
2-don’t use the app
That’s pretty much it. This guy is just a girl. Who’s says I’m not going to take a truck off-road in fear of puncturing a tire and scared to lift the heavy truck. lol what a joke. Grow a pair dude.
Also yes the charging situation is by far the biggest issue with these. The non Tesla chargers, from what I understand, just suck. So either the new partnership with Tesla will fix that or buy the new ugly cybertruck.
Most people will charge at the house so won’t have to deal with the public chargers all that much.
Also every vehicle depreciates lol. I’d love to see the truck he buys that doesn’t depreciate. His new Silverado EV will depreciate too. Dumb dumb.
The fact that people are surprised when their brand new vehicle depreciates when it’s driven off the lot is a bigger sign of a problem than the actual depreciation.
Wasn’t it a well known fact that vehicles immediately loose large chunks of value when bought new? The everything bubble continues to shock me
He was clearly fine with 10% depreciation, not 30+%
Scale matters.
@@GregHassler Car Max offered 23% depreciation, Ford offered 16%. Pretty standard for a 6 month old vehicle with 7000 miles on it.
Thank you for saying this, it always baffles me when people talk about their personal car as an investment. They are a cost, depreciation is part of that, but it's a cost plain and simple.
That and this is a first gen product Ford is currently ramping up production on. What person would hear Ford will be ramping up production and think it would get more valuable.
it depreciated as much in 6 months as a Tesla does in 4 years :)
Electric vehicles are wonderful. Ford dropped the ball with this truck. $90,000.oo buys a lot of fuel for your used truck.
Did you know that black African children die digging for cobalt to go into the batteries for a mere few dollars a month??? Many are buried alive so rich people can drive their 'clean' EV! EVs are the new Blood Diamonds!
2001 honda crv still driving me to the mountain since new. Motor trans still strong. Rebuild is 3-5k for another 25 years. Electric vehicles are great for a short while. These clocks are punching and the horror stories are coming. Beyond tires, brakes, suspension which is 3x the operating costs of ice.

Buying a non work or collectors vehicle is not an investment… why do people call buying a normal vehicle an investment….
Cause people (me included tbh) like to justify ridiculous purchases. It is honestly way better money wise to buy a regular ICE truck than this
The depreciation should not have been a surprise. Truck was worth 74K the day he drove it off the lot.

The last 3 years of price appreciation in the vehicle market was a fluke and caused by shortages. Historically, cars have always depreciated. People forget…
You spent over $20,000 to drive 7000 miles !!!!!! 😂

I feel bad for you.
It is really the Ford dealerships fault. They destroyed themselves by trying to screw the customers. Now they are having a hard to time to sell it.
Ironic, because they thought by jacking up the price many people will be so desperate for this vehicle.
Thanks for your honest review.
The more expensive a vehicle is, the more it depreciates in dollars. The Lightning isn't depreciating any faster than a $90K gas truck.
Regardless of how I may feel about EVs, your totally honest straightforward presentation is a massive breath of fresh air in a world of hype, hidden agendas and BS. Good show!
That’s what I like about this video. Not an ounce of political BS.

You do know that your electric vehicle is powered by fossil fuel powerplants, don't you?
Where and how do you think most of our power is generated. Plus the power and resources used by plant. Not to mention the disposal of used battery. It takes at least 60 to 70 thousand miles to start reaping the benefit.
@@berlusmafiaCO2 is good for plants and trees.
I can't believe you found someone to give you $80,000 for this driveway virtue trophy.
Great video! Electric vehicle may be okay for a second vehicle for local travel only where the vehicle can be charged at home but definitely not for long distance. I will stick to my diesel vehicle and avoid the charging problems that you mentioned in a prior vehicle.
My brothers son has the same truck, he’s had it for about 6 months and regrets buying it. His complaint is traveling with it out of town. Charging stations not working, the cost and time waiting at some charging stations. One complaint he mentions is that it was not as cheap to charge while away from home, the example he gave me was it cost $85 and took 4 hours to charge while traveling.
The CCS charging was not ready in the US. This is why they are going to start putting the Tesla NACS port on the new fords and being about to use Tesla superchargers. If it took 4 hrs he was on a lower speed CCS not the fastest one. For most people though you charge very cheap at home most of the time so it's still a lot cheaper than gasoline even if you do get screwed every once in a while at a CCS charger.
😂
If you have an EV you also need an ICE vehicle (own or rent) for when traveling out of town unless you want a headache. All things considered, EVs make no sense to me. Not to mention my brother's Tesla caught fire in the garage and almost burned his house down.
@@biggestsign Wow, didn't know that Tesla was also spontaneously catching fire. I heard about them catching fire when the battery gets ruptured by running over some debris.

At what point did getting a first gen electric truck seem like a good idea?
Keeping my 11yo Chevy - Sonic. Paid 5 four years ago and it's worth 5-6 now, on paper. Actual value to me is the cost to replace it. Power, ride, handling, smooth as silk. Range: 450. Gas pumps are everywhere.
There are already gas stations that remove the pumps and replace them with fast chargers 😅
@@Tschacki_Quackiwhere is that?
You forgot about the inflated dollar, and your INVESTMENT really lost value.
I recently bought a truck. My requirements were 3/4 ton, gas, rear-wheel drive, long bed. New rear-wheel drive trucks are nearly nonexistent. Try finding one with an 8-foot bed. If you do find one the price tag is more than some people paid for their home. I found an ‘06 2500, gas, rear-wheel drive, with an 8 foot bed. Price, including new tires, stereo, and topper, was under $17k. And, unlike an EV truck, it will pull my toyhauler camper just fine. Let someone else pay the massive depreciation, I say.
If your in the woods and pop a tire on soft ground you can mount the frame with lumber or blocks and just dig out the bad tire to swap it out.
Thanks for taking the time to explain your experience with this truck. I'm not against electric vehicles in general but I don't need reasons for constant disappointment after spending money on a new car or truck. I need my everyday vehicle to be worry free. All these problems will eventually work themselves out as R&D continues, but I believe it will take several more years.
If you need a worry free vehicle you buy a Tesla not a Ford
@@PaleBlueDotCitizen Seems like that is the case. I don't know any Tesla owners that aren't happy with their purchase. I see them out and about multiple times a day where I live and the numbers are increasing by the day. Can't wait to see a Cybertruck in my city.
One BIG reason I refuse to buy an EV is because, let's be honest. No politics no propaganda or BS. The time is NOT right for EVs. The technology has not been improved to make it practical no matter what the EV crowd say. We will not see any real improvements for the next few years. I'll still buy a ICE vehicle instead. What's also just as irritating is the prices are so steep that I still see only wealthy people driving EVs in my city. The technology is not ready for the masses.
EVs are being pushed too hard right now, with constant messaging that they have no drawbacks and are superior to fuel burners in every way. This is false even though these vehicles do have their place in the market. It's no wonder some owners are being surprised by some drawbacks they were assured didn't exist.
they better hurry, only 6 years left before no new ice vehicles in europe. this will also reduce availability and increase price in usa as well, no ice in 2035.
Electric vehicles are commuter vehicles. Nothing more. The Lightning is a luxury commuter
Until the bugs get worked out it's tough to use it to the fullest of capabilities. Thanks for commenting.
Its nothing but an overpriced, glorified golf cart. Nothing more.
Agree My friends and I ride horses. There is no way we can leave horses in a trailer the time it takes to charge an electric truck every 155-200 miles. IF we can even find a charger.
@@markwatson3135 try towing 5000 or 7000 pounds. You’ll have to charge every 100 miles and if you’re in colder climates then you can forget about towing anything outside of city limits.
They're great to take out in the wilderness camping as long as you have a 15000KV generator and 15 jerry cans of GAS to keep it charging. The hum a generator drowns out the crickets at night when camping, so pleasant
I’m an early adopter of technology, have been since the 1970’s! I grew up on a large sheep and cattle ranch that my grandparents homestead on the 1909-1910 time frame near Piñon New Mexico. By the time I came along, they had around 12 sections of land. We used pickup trucks for everything and I grew up driving everything from a 1946 Ford 2.5 ton truck, 1950’s Dodge pickup, 1968 F-250, 1966 Chevy 1500, 1979 F-350 crew, and 1983 F-150. When I grew up I ended up in the Navy, then flying for airlines. While flying for an airline, I opened and construction company and now own a small fleet of l trucks. The point is… I’ve a lot of known when it comes to work and personal vehicles… and at this time, I can’t find an economical way not a practical way to incorporate EV’s into my life with the exception of person short range and or very well planned road trips with 4 passengers and light bags. The only EV I’m comfortable making long range trips in is TESLA. Tesla makes reliable vehicles that can be loaded up and you can count on 250 mile drives and a hook up to the a super charger.
The problem with Tesla is… I need to pull a trailer and I need to carry loads in Canadian and North US winters.
The way I see it, until we get break through in battery technology, EV’s will be relegated to relatively short trips when under heavy loads and or pulling a trailer.
I also see some massive problems in the production of EV’s.
Of the good things about ICE vehicles is they are manufactured from 90% recycled vehicles and airplanes. In addition, ICE vehicles use power from established supply channels and in spite of the claims of greenies, the oil and gas industries are far cleaner and far greener than lithium mines and virgin resource intensive requirements of the EV industry.
In time, with proper legislation, scientific break throughs it will be possible to make EV’s as green as the claims of today.
What makes EV’s possible for work trucks and large SUV’s that are a great asset to families. (1) break through in battery technology that comes from easily manufactured and recycled materials. Once the world has a basic supply that is easily recycled will batteries become “greener” than carbon based fuels. (2) rapid chargers a readily available as gasoline stations. (3) increase nuclear power output across then nation until electricity is as available and reliable at all time of the year regardless of weather and day or night. (4) a recognition that the oil, gas and coal industries are not evil and the acknowledgment that we need affordable abundant fissile fuels for the manufacturing of 90% of the items we use in modern society.
The oil industry is evil. Started back in the leaded fuel days. Their other profit items are plastics and chemicals. Oil is out for oil.🤔
Do not forget about winter temperatures... Below zero temps will = a 40% loss of range...
EVs are not green by any stretch. Do you think electricity comes from the wall?
This whole conversation is ignorant. EVs are finally available in formats that are usable. The next 5-10 years will be the next personal computer/cell phone revolution in EV tech. Charging ability will improve immediately with the ability of non-Tesla owners to use the only true network currently available. The amount of chargers available now opposed to five years ago is geometrically greater. The breakthroughs in battery technology will make range issues a non-issue. The reliability of chargers and cars will greatly improve as more manufacturers understand their own technology. Furthermore, commuter cars coming in the used market in the next five years should make those lower income folks who don’t travel long distances able to utilize this technology at a reasonable price. If our current economy was asked to use MS DOS 1.0 and a Motorola Star-Tac phone, we couldn’t do it. Breath folks, breath. Have now owned a hybrid for 10 years (now kids car driving to school and activities locally and back) and an EV that is unable to charge fast enough or drive far enough to be a travel car. It is a wonderful commuter car for a young person needing a dependable car that can go 150 miles in a day. The newer EVs we own charge very quickly and travel further. That in essentially 5 years. SOOO… either take a breath or stop being a shill for the fossil fuel and ICE industries. EVs outperform ICE already in their infancy.
If you're selling to the dealer you're going to get talked down about your car no matter what market condition or condition of the car. Try buying the same car next day from the dealer. You're going to hear how rare it is and how everybody is trying to buy it. In fact they have an appointment with someone buying it right after your appointment! It's how dealerships works..

Umm...yeah, getting rid of your Ford Lightning, because of the problems associated with electric vehicles, just to buy another electric vehicle which will have the same problems. 🤔
Didn't say I would buy the same truck or car. I'm going to buy something better that will not have the issues. Will look at and review the other trucks as they come out. Excited to see the Cyber Truck. Thanks for commenting.
Wow, I can't believe you found a buyer for it..
What did you roll over the negative equity from the Ford Lighting into? Or did you take the $10,000-12,000 difference in price you paid and then sold the vehicle?
Thanks for sharing. However, the only thing I need to highlight here is what most of us learned many years ago. Don't buy the newest technology until it is more mature. Don't buy the newly launched model until most of the bugs are ironed out. Buy is slightly used (to reduce the depreciation loss a bit) once this great technology is more mature.

Sounds good, except I'm not so sure that applies to stable software updates from these legacy companies.
@@factchecker9358 Well, I worked in automotive in Design & Quality for over 30 years in Europe, US, and Asia. And launch quality is very often the same challenge everywhere.
Ford with it's Lightening - while an interesting design - will too have it's launch quality challenges. As far as I know Ford and other OEMs outsource it's software designs which in itself creates huge challenges. So, I think over time the Lightening will be a great & reliable car, but at the beginning one should not be surprised of these launch quality challenges.
As I understand, Ford is now promising delivery in September if you order now. This implies that the demand for the car has fallen down the cliff compared to the number of reservations. So regarding the second hand value of the car I guess you made the right decision.
They're just so damned expensive. The average Joe can't plunk down $60k, $70k, $100k for a friggin truck. Even the ICE powered trucks are out of hand. They can keep them for the prices they're trying to sell them. I love the idea of the Lightening and was on a waiting list to order one...but the prices just sky-rocketed and I wasn't willing to sell a kidney just so I could have an EV truck. Instead, I decided to go with a gently used Tesla Model Y Performance in Feb of this year and couldn't be happier...was less than half of what I would've paid for the Lightening, and everything just "works". I'll keep my eyes on Ford to see where things go, but their current trajectory is a no-go for me.
My husband and I were talking about getting one, but after seeing the struggles you went through with yours... nope, not going to do it. Thank you for the info and updates you posted on this.
So glad I didn't fomo into one. I wanted one pretty bad and was willing to pay the 100k they were asking at the time. Now I couldn't care less about it.

To many downsides, it’s not ready yet!

Having been a consultant to the auto industry, including Ford and Toyota, you are absolutely correct about the culture. Confronted with the knowledge that they have made some major mistakes on a product line that will, first have to be admitted, and then fixed at some cost, Ford will just ignore it or justify not dealing with it. Toyota, on the other hand, from my experience, will thank you for showing them their error and immediately set about to fix the problem.
Cool!!
I guess that means toy will fix that older prius motor that they stated 1 quart of oil consumption every 600 miles is acceptable??
Those cracked exhaust manifolds on the 4.7 were fixed in a timely matter.....never.
The sludge class action lawsuit??
Rusted frames....I'll admit, they did step up on replacing those; though they certainly didn't fix the problem "immediately."
Fuel pump class action lawsuit??
Maybe you can "consult" on my wife's 115k mile lexus with the dash lit up like a Christmas tree...no need, the CEL is the rollover valve (probably the same valve that went TU on my son's 4runner) Not sure what's causing the VSC light....may be a clock spring.

This is a $12,000+ lesson. Everything he complained about could have been found ahead of time with just a bit of research.
So, which of the new battery powered trucks is going to:
-Be inexpensive
-Not depreciate extraordinarily
- Have a great charging network for trucks
-Be sold by a huge company that gives a crap
-Be light enough for off-road use
-Be suited for ALL tasks current trucks are capable of
-Have NO range anxiety
These are all questions I ask myself about battery powered vehicles (and more), and to this day, they fail. You sold your Lightning because of these concerns.
If you’re not requiring positive answers to these questions, frankly, you are just gambling.

Good decision. I cant believe manufacturers are jumping directly into EV, and not hybrids. That makes much more sense, would be more reliable, wont get “stuck” or wait in charge lines, and still save gas and emissions. Plus people will be much more confidant in a hybrid. EV only use today is local runs to the store. For $90k I must like everything about the vehicle and experience….not for a week, but for years. I love Expeditions……make a hybrid or clean diesel, I would strongly consider it immediately….bring it out in EV…wont buy it, period.

GOOD VIDEO
Nice to see a video that is neither "EVs have no faults" nor "all EVs are crap".
A vehicle isn't an "investment" unless you actually plan to make money or save money by buying it. If it is used for a business, it can be an investment. Also, if you expect it to appreciate in value while you own it, it can be an investment. Otherwise, you're just buying a vehicle... a depreciating asset.
In the words of Kermit the Frog " It's not easy being GREEN"
if it sucks money out of your pocket its not an investment its an liability......
my complaint with charging networks is the location of chargers, often in shopping plazas that are crowded and busy which is good if you are actually going shopping....but for people like me and many others we dont want to deal with popular crowded shopping areas.
as well as the lack of pass thru charging stations vs backing your car in to a spot.
LOL....when the EV market becomes a larger percentage I can guarantee that Jane will plug in her EV and go shopping for a few hours.....bring your tent and sleeping bag.....
All gas stations should also install chargers. The gas stations are Americas infrastructure staring us in the face
Especially problematic if you have a trailer
Only..a guy like him.. would throw money away on a dam ... Truck...
I wouldn't have considered a EV in the first place. Still won't. When the day comes I have to walk then I will do so.
I read about your story and then looked it up. I read through and thought about your reasons. EVs are more expensive compared to the equivalent ICE counterpart. I agree with you that an owner better like their vehicle. I had a 2009 Infiniti G37 that I bought and hated- sold it in seven months. I lost $9700 and had under 4000 miles on it.
The problem with fast chargers is well documented. Only Tesla has the stable infrastructure. All other brands are suffering from various issues. This is certainly a problem; however, as an early adopter, it is something you would have to put up with. According to one article, you have an EV Silverado on order. You will face the same problem. This issue is more specific to EV and many owners of all different brands are coming to realize this issue and find the fast charge costs and time factor- EV Reality.
The interface that Ford uses is not as smooth but it does function, at least for me more than not. The update made quite a difference but then this aspect is always changing.
Your reason on towing is dead on. I will say that I purchased the Platinum Hybrid for that specific reason. I was not going to drive 100 miles (2 hours) then charge for two hours. I was told that if I charged for 45min with no issues I would be at about 80% but to actually get the 100 mile towing range, I would need to wait for the 100% which is about another hour.
I still believe that the Ford Lightning is the best EV truck available. The Rivian is so noisy inside as per the online test videos especially when compared to Lighting. What I take away from your overall perspective of the Lightning is really a negative on EV ownership in general - expensive, limitations, traveling time- might be said of ALL EVs. Personally I totally agree with the Toyota CEO on EV, very limiting with Hydrogen making more sense with today's technology. EVs still have 70% more pollution to the environment during build and junking compared to ICE so it may be better in operation but with tradeoffs.
I also believe that your sharing did make improvements happen. The Tesla/Ford Charge station is a game changer for Ford.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. It's refreshing to hear from someone like you who is taking a holistic look at all of the points.
I am curious where you read about my videos? Thank you so much and you are spot-on.

The best choice you made. You bought garbage, but learned your lesson 😂😂
A week after I purchased my platinum, one of my neighbors offered me $10,000 over what I paid for it. I don't believe the price of these will depreciate. Actually doesn't matter if it does, because I haven't been to a gas station or had to change the oil for 6 months. I pay on the average $.12/kwh so tops around $6 per 100 miles. At just $3/gal for gas that's 50 mpg, which is as good as my prius averaged. That's pretty good for nearly a 7000 lb truck that drives like a dream and will power my home for 10 days or more in an emergency. As gas prices rise above $3/gal thus will only get better. I expect our economy will be crashing soon. It's comforting to know that with my 13 kwh solar system I'll be able to charge up my truck for free. On a sunny day it will produce 65 kw of power that over 130 miles of free driving. My longest trips in town are less than 60 miles round trip. And since I only drive to town 2-3 times a wk, (sometimes less) I have plenty of time to put a little more energy into my truck.
Sounds like the perfect truck for you and it also sounds like you are in a good location for electric cost. Our cost per kwh in San Diego is over .80 during on peak. It's a nice truck just didn't make sense for me based off of all the reasons I mentioned in the video.
@Jetters Garage be a good incentive for bidirectional charging. Get $ for helping out with the grid when not using it
Nice truck for lifestyle and comfortability but Ford tried to market it as a work truck and that’s where they failed because if you’re towing something worthwhile your range drops to less than 100 miles. Other than that cool truck.
You should look into what happens when your battery is bad and jus how it is disposed of , those batteries are terrible for the environment not only building one or how the elements are mined through child labor but even worse on disposal and for the life of me I can’t understand how anyone would think this is good for planet in any way but then again those “green new deal peoples “ are either mis informed or are so busy virtue signaling that they flat out ignore the facts , so please look into the disposal of batteries it may shock you how poisonous they truly are
So you spent $98,000 so you can talk about saving a few dollars on fuel costs, sounds retarded
If you want the best charging network, methinks you're pretty much waiting for the Cybertruck. Oh wait. Those are even bigger than the F-150's, so there's that parking space issue again! Drat...
The funny part about the size thing is the the F150 is only a couple inches wider than a model S, And having driven the S for the past 9 years, I just can't agree with the size complaint. I also have driven an F-350 extensively for work, and the usual problem with parking is knowing how to park, not parking stall size.
I would love the truck. But like loads of people are saying its not an investment if you don't use it to pay for itself. I use to buy a truck and work the shit out of it . Every 3 years i could write it off on my tax return. Now I'm retired i have to put up with a 15 year old car as its waste of money buying something i don't really need as all new cars are a drain of your finances.
I drove from SLC to Vegas last month. I saw just 2 vehicles getting towed off I-15. Both were nice looking Teslas. My guess is the drivers ran out of power.
I wouldn't have purchased my lightning if I had to depend on public chargers.
This is gonna be the same story with all EVs
Very true. There will be thousands of these videos over the next few years.
Know when to hold them and know when to fold them. The best thing you can do when you make a mistake is to take responsibility and rectify it as soon as possible. I feel sorry for the people who are holding on to their trucks. The fact is that the warranty period is a lot shorter than the payment plan. The only persons that will be able to service it is the dealers. This is called a captive market. In ather
All new cars depreciate quickly…..immediately. Unless you’re buying a collector car, it’s a depreciating asset. In fact, a daily driver car is a liability not an asset at all.
Sounds like you didn't do your research then you let emotion control your decision. New tech is a bold step and will not come easily but have a but of faith that Ford's motivation is properly aligned
I went over the answer to this in the video. If you get a chance watch the part on my conversation with Ford.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I going to advise my dad to stay away from the lighting. I will be waiting for the cybertruck myself
Excited to see it when it comes out!
yuk
Don't believe everything you see on the internet. Some people just post videos and content to get attention. I have had my Lightning since July 2022 and have put on over 22,000 miles. Mostly highway and have very few complaints. The truck has been flawless and the charging has been getting better every day. I have to disagree with most of the authors videos regarding the Lightning. He was to worried about the money to even give it a try. Maybe he should have looked at his finances before making the purchase.
@@STCDAD Agreed, it was just too expensive for him so blamed the truck.
@@STCDAD the lighting has a nice body frame but the range is too low. The cybertruck advertised 500 miles range
Great video...My neighbor's Lightning has been in the shop for software problems and some rattles. He has said a million times i wish i didn't buy this junk. Service Manager told him these trucks are having serious problems, and they are not selling very well.
That fact that you were surprised to get a call from a full price buyer 3 weeks after you listed it is because in that time frame is when Ford's CEO first announced that Lightning production was being cut in half by Ford because dealers can't sell what they have and do not want more.
Soon after that, the announcement came that FORD will stop making any more Lightnings. The announcment I saw was very kurt giving no reason and no eta for restarting production.
As an aside, I will mention that the CEOs of GM and Sellantis also announced a 40% reduction in production of EVs.
You were VERY wise to unload this junk truck when you did as the used value is imploding.
Imagine how the 'early adopters' feel who paid 10's of thousands of 'dealer markups' on these things and now, a short time later, they are far, far under water with a truck worth HALF of what they paid months ago.
These developments might also explain Ford's sudden loss of interest in hsving a user group make suggestions on how to improve the product.
Or put a less courteous way, to put lipstick on this pig.
There are 2 things that dealers don't want you to know about new cars.
The car loses 15-20% the instant that it gets titled.
The additional 'adjustment fee' amount in excess of the actual sales price is 100% gravy for the dealer and is basically not recoverable when you sell it.
Everybody knows this I guess...
@@Tschacki_Quacki Apparently not this youtuber....
I will keep my F250 diesel 4X4, because it is capable of truck duties.
Ya I see you had a sun roof is there a way to have a solar panel instead of the sun roof to help charge the battery I know it won't charge the battery all the way but it would help
"Tune in next week for another thrilling episode of Rich People Problems: The horrors of buying a Lamborghini with the Latte heater cup holder being only tepid instead of piping hot! Aiiee!"
I love mine mostly because what I paid. Held out for a pro and Ford gave me original pricing of base price of 40k. Optioned out to 46k for tow tech package etc... Take 7500 fed tax credit and 2500 from Delaware the truck all in is less than 40k. Helluva toy! Also great thing about pro model is the smaller 12 inch screen that still has knobs etc. I have 2 other cars so I'm not worried about range.
You got an amazing deal! Great job!
I don't believe any of that
MSRP is a good deal? WTF
@@JettersGaragedid you have a home charger?
Great job saving the environment purchasing a "toy" when you already had two cars. Get rid if your gas burners and commit to EV 100%
Great video. All of my hunches about EV "trucks" have been validated. Anyone who wants to virtue-signal in an EV -- more power to you [pun intended], just please don't inconvenience me in the process!
You are so fortunate to being able to sell it and find someone that would buy it . Consider yourself very lucky!

New sub. Well done. Love the fresh honest opinion, it's about time. Said it 1,000 times, The cure for this BS is the top 100 people that design & build things, like the "All New Electric F-150" have to live w/them as their sole transportation for a year, 'before' they are allowed to say: this vehicle is ready to go on sale to the public. Show us, how wonderful it is.
I wonder with the Cyber truck being so big, will spaces be widen?
Be nice if they built some pull thru spots too
@@mikeflanary642they do have pull through spaces at newer supercharging stations
Depreciation on any new car regardless if its electric or gas powered is high.
May I ask what city you live in? If you don’t want to share I just want to know if you are in a small town or a large city…I’m curious whether your charging issues would be relevant in a large city like NYC?
These charging woes are a serious drawback. The worry and extra time it takes to juice up an EV, versus the ease of a gasoline pump, are going to deter a lot of people.
Ford going to lose $4 billion dollars this year on EV’s
Thank you for taking the time to talk about this. I feel exactly as you do. If I'm going to spend 90k, I'd better love love love the truck and never regret the purchase. Sounds like Ford still has some improvements to make. I bought a 2022 Tesla Model Y last year and love it every time I drive it. No regrets.
A Tesla battery can require 100 tonnes for raw material to be mined. It also requires lots of polluting chemicals. If you really want to buy an EV then buy a small one that doesn’t require a big battery and use it as a second car for shorter trips. Keep your ICE car for longer trips.
Fabulous HONEST INSIGHT. YOU THE MAN.
Wow you took a $13K loss on the pickup. Hopefully you had it as a business expense and take it as a loss.
It’s good to hear a user’s perspective on these things. I worry over those exact points.
Cyber Truck? How long is the list? I think it is at 100,000 reservations. Are they actually taking any more reservations for that?
$74k is not bad. See how much a new ICE vehicle depreciates just by driving it off the lot.
None of these reasons seem like a big problem. The range and charging station issues are known limitations and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Any early adopters are going to have headaches but they are paving the way for everyone else. There are some significant upsides to this EV truck and and I acknowledge and accept the downsides so im sure i will love mine when it arrives.
The truck itself is amazing to drive. If you only charge at home it will make a big difference. Thanks for commenting.
Why adopt one at all..??
@@JettersGarageWhat difference..??
Do not park it in or near your garage.
So the app needing 24 hours to verify location before you can charge at a level 2 is known?! That is garbage from ford. Idiots
Thanks for the video. Status quo thinking/behavior will be the downfall of legacy auto
I agree. I was hoping they would be more open.
About 40.000 dollars more than the gasoline F150 truck. You did the right selling it. You also saved your home from a EV fire if you had a garage
I paid $54k for a mid level trim model with the small battery. 4200mi on it and no issues. I live near a public charger and leave it overnight 2 times per week to charge. I’ve paid close to zero in fuel costs so far. We use this as our main family car and for running all errands. The truck really is amazing to drive. But at .35¢ per kWh in my state this truck would probably not be cheaper to run than gas. The free charging saved me from regretting my purchase.
Bummed to hear it man. I’ve loved my Lightning even with the early gremlins. Enjoyed your content. Hope to see you in another EV truck making content and some comparisons.
I'll be doing more content. Appreciate the feedback. You never know what will end up in the garage next.
@@JettersGarageget a ram TRX, or a corvette 😂
I love my lightning too.
With everything you've been saying it seems it was too soon to get the EV Lightning. You're other video showing how difficult it was to charge your Lightning here in San Diego. I can only imagine those who got it that lives in less populated areas.
Yeah, right... I figured being in a main hub, we would have an abundance of working/available fast chargers. I was wrong.
We have a mustang mach E and installed home charger..🤷
@hellsfavoritesaltyberserke4724for the life of me I can't understand why people with no home charger will buy a ev 🤦
Thanks for sharing your story. Good luck with your new future EV truck.
Good move. Great story teller & communicator.
Honestly owning a non-Tesla in NA seems much more of a pain than Europe. USA charging operators are converting their users back to ICE like this.
I had 0 issues going from Amsterdam to the north of Spain last summer with the EV6 I had back then. 10 charging stops total (round trip) and no stress at all. And now many Tesla charging points are also open for non-Teslas. Tesla also uses CCS port here in Europe so no weird magic needed.
10 charging spots seems outrageous. In an ICE maybe refueling 4-6 times plus takes less than 10 mins to refuel. Not worth that hassle of and EV.
What is that, about 3 hours between stops to charge? That's not too bad if it's a quick stop for a bathroom break and to get a coffee. But how long were the stops to charge? You could do the drive in one very long day in a gas powered car if your goal is to get to your destination as soon as possible.
Anyone else see or hear about the problem of not being able to park these oversized electric trucks/SUVs in older parking garages due to their weight?
Apparently they were not designed for the extra weight, and are at risk of collapsing.
Interesting
Read an article about that, it also mentioned that being that all evs are heavier it will wear out roads out faster.
And this is why I love my Tesla- charging is 100% reliable and seamless. Their software just works, phone App is terrific. Can’t wait for a Cybertruck.
Will be interested to see how they make their spots bigger at charging stations for the trucks.
How's the braking distance on a truck that weighs twice what it should??
As a lightning owner the braking is excellent. Uses the electric motor to slow and stop the vehicle while generating electricity. Use one pedal driving and you should never have to replace brakes. Pull a trailer and you generate more electricity braking
