  • In 2014 three divers enter into an underwater cave, that has not been fully explored. The divers made the mistake of not bringing a dive line, and after one of the men decided to exit the 2 remaining divers found themselves in a desperate scenario. What would happen next would rewrite the history books in Spain. This is their story...

This poses a lot of questions. The main one: why on earth did any of those 3 go in that cave without a life line? And why didn't any of those 3 prohibit the others going in there without a life line?
Next, didn't they have buoyancy vests so they could rest while staying afloat?
remark: 80cm = 0.8 meter or about half of most people length. You mean 80m (the length of a small football field)

Covers are some of the most dangerous weekend warriors over estimating their skill levels then expecting others to risk their lives to rescue them.

No guideline == no cave diving. As for struggling to keep their heads above water, they have buoyancy vests for that, which can also be one way to orientate themselves if they are havjng a difficult time determining up vs down (the other way being expelled bubbles float) :/

At least one survived and unfortunately the other perished. The way the story started, I thought it was going to be the Corporal's tragedy.

Can see appeal of cave diving - to go to place absolutely none have been in before. But absolutely do not get the appeal of caving - where you go through tight channels to see the same as everywhere else.

I need a caver/diver to explain what the appeal is.. seriously. As far as I can tell you're risking you life (and rescuers lives) to get into a dark room no one has ever been in? Maybe I'm just missing something.

It's the desire to explore the unknown and see things that few, if any, have ever seen before. If you don't get it I don't think anyone can explain it to you the drive to explore. That said, I stopped cave diving after someone I knew well died.

These guys broke the fundamental rules of cave diving that are there to keep you safe. Not only do you have a reel to use as a guideline, you have a backup. You should have backups for everything. I don't mean to be harsh, but it must be said, only a group of idiots would ignore safety procedures and go into a cave under these circumstances. I hope the reports of the men going into the cave without a reel are inaccurate. I find it really hard to believe that anyone who has received the proper training and certification to cave dive would do this. It goes without saying that anyone who is not certified should never go into a cave. There is nothing in any cave worth risking your life for. Cave diving can be an extremely rewarding and safe experience if you follow the safety rules and get proper training. It can be deadly if you don't. Bottom line: don't break the rules. If you can't do it safely, don't do it at all. In many situations where I hear of a fatality in cave diving, it's because the rules were ignored. Accidents can and will happen. This is why strict adherence to the rules is a must.
