- Writing is a process. Revision is the magic in the process. It's what breathes energy into an otherwise lifeless body of words. When you write knowing that you can undo or change everything if you desire, that's precisely what invites an unlimited level of creativity.
Obert Skye is the author of the Leven Thumps book series, among other interesting, well-revised, published works.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
POV: You are reading the comments while bored with the video
Me, patiently waiting for him to say something of value other than "revision is a good thing to do." As if we don't already know that.
we were watching this in class and i absolutely lost it at the bee story
lol
@@crispysoap9166 6 years later and i still lost it
My first year writing class wraps up this week and I needed a lead in to encourage my students to take advantage of my revision offer. This is PERFECT encouragement. Thank you so much!
I thoroughly enjoyed that!! "And so, on that note, I'm done." XD That quote should go down in history.
I'm required to watch this video for COMP 1301. Something that Obert Skye mentioned and I thought was important is the Obert Eight process. He mentioned the fifth step is to revise. 87% of people dread revising their paper. Revision is understanding. We revise to tell the best story and properly express, we revise for the benefit of others. Our ideas deserve to be properly revised. The magic of revision stands like a wizard and it turns pens and pencils into wands. This shows how powerful and important the revision process is. Overall, poetically beautiful ted talk.
@@govakgreatness864 I was going to ask the same thing! ha ha!!
@@govakgreatness864 I go to SPC but online. :)
@@govakgreatness864 this assignment was the hardest for me this month! I loved the video but it was difficult to write a full page over it.
@@govakgreatness864 Well, I'm probably twice your age! ha ha I am going back to school.
Yoooooo I'm in your class.
I wish ALL professors were as engaging as this guy! Love it.
I’d actually pass my classes
@@vnshh21 the presentation is very engaging
As interesting as the bee story was, I didn't learn a thing about revising from this video
This was an excellent talk on a very hard subject to make interesting. REVISED: This was an epic tale of bees, fire, and revision!
thank that was very power i took so much from that rite now and i definitely look at revision and revise differently thank you. I love passion you put in to your everything.
My mouth was hanging open in anticipation, like a dog's. Thank you for revising this talk so thoroughly that you spun gold.
This presentation is poetically beautifully and realistically needed. This sentence may need revision; however, it emerges from my heart. I appreciate this dance, this movement. I will share this gift on revision with students! Thanks!
My teacher wanted me to watch this but honestly it's TRUE!👍🏻
Wow! Just Wow!
Very inspiring! Way to bee.
This was like a poem about revision
Amazing
I thought this was a talk on one of Neville Goddard's teachings on Revision. Highly disappointed and stopped when the bees started making their hidden nests.
So I directly came to comment section. Thanks for saving my time, lol
That's what I thought -- bring on Neville!
This helped me to revise my minecraft build
I've always moved on from a novel after I've written the first two drafts. Moved on or had a pity party that no one would want to read it (self reject ahead of time). Now that I finally have a novel others are interested in, I have to learn this new step of "revision" and I'm def afraid.
Never heard so much filler in a speech. Perhaps they should "revise" their speech length from 12 minutes to 1.
I love it! BeeGREAT!

Oops. He had me until that Rodney King reference. I was considering this video to show to my inner-city high school bridge class but that's a big NO now. Bummer. I'll try to find something from him in writing perhaps. :'(
Very good,very good.speach.God bless you.(From.A.Richard Paul Chaudary.Preacher Poet.Indian.
English professor brought me here
This guy what to my school
May I have permission to use this video in my online class?
Who cares...do whatever u want to do
Might as well just write a book about revision
Anyone here in mrs. Meltons 9th grade ELA class
This guy talks in circles. To sum up his pointless presentation, revision makes your paper better. That's it. You're welcome. Not all heroes wear capes.
Yes, that’s a proper summary. But the point is to convince people to revise. Not just command them to.
If u have nothing smart to say revise it you might be in the wrong place and it might not be ur time pause yourself and revise urself
"Revise myself". Lol!!! 😂😂😂
You didn't need to be rude in your comment. You could've just said " in short, revision makes your work better" that's it. You didn't need to insult the dude or his speech. You didnt need to call yourself a hero for a hurtful comment... especially after watching this you can tell he's nervous and probably planned and " revised" his speech a dozen times to make it memorable and funny so the point sticks. I agree with the "revise yourself" comment.
I really enjoy how my post hurt your feelings enough to write a long paragraph. Thank you for the laugh. It was really funny. Not all clowns wear red noses. Thank you so much.
F for all the smokey bees
I came here Because my English teacher
me too
Poor bees. We need them for honey.
Revision isn't magic
This might be the worst TED talk ever. He just talks in circle.
