This week I wanted to take a short night walk through the streets of Providencia, I have kept silent and I have let the city speak for itself. For a better experience I recommend using headphones.
About the channel...
in Motion is a channel that seeks to portray various corners of the city and its surroundings, where the streets and its architecture are the protagonists. The content of this space is inspired by various "Walking" channels around the world and the desire to leave a record so that my children can appreciate in the future how the city where they lived looked.
About my city...
Santiago also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile, as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. It is the center of the most densely populated region in Chile, the Santiago Metropolitan Region, whose total population is 8 million, of which more than 6 million live in the continuous urban area of the city. The city is entirely in the central valley of the country. Most of the city is between 500 and 650 m (1,640 and 2,133 ft) above mean sea level.
About Providencia...
It was on February 25, 1897 when the then President Federico Errázuriz Echaurren decreed the subdivision of the Ñuñoa commune, from which a new commune was born in the eastern sector, this was Providencia.
Providencia was then an incipient town of 5,000 inhabitants. The existence of the convent of the Sisters of Divina la Providencia, located on the southern sidewalk of the main road, motivated the inhabitants to call that road the Callejón de la Providencia, giving rise to the name of the commune. The beginnings of Providencia were precarious: there was no electricity, drinking water, sewerage, schools, or commerce; the landscape was rural.
Although it is true that the Commune was created on February 25, it was only on May 2, 1897 that the Municipality of Providencia was constituted, it took a little over two months to look for candidates and organize the elections, as stated in the Municipal Historical Archive in minutes of municipal meetings.
The vertiginous growth of the city of Santiago has transformed it, since the middle of the 20th century, into a residential community, and more recently, the center of dynamic commercial and financial activity that revolves around Providencia and Nueva Providencia avenues.

It is a tribute to a young 28-year-old woman who lost her life in 2018 when she was hit by a car there. She was on the bike lane cycling, but she was hit by a car that was speeding, apparently it was a crash between 3 cars and she was hit by one of them. 😔 Thank you my friend Monica and TC!
