    After experiencing modules going bad and computers refusing to shift on F150s and Silverados, I'm just glad to have a lever and cable that directly shift the transfer case on my wrangler. Not many vehicles allow that anymore, and it's sad. I keep spare plastic bushings in my glove box and tools in the back in case I decide to animal out.

  • @supersami7748

    • @JeepJeep234
      @JeepJeep234 Před 6 lety

      bigntallxx Toyota uses a different transfer case that is easier to shift because the gear ratio is higher than the Jeep. It's a 2.56to1 or something like that. The Rubicon uses a 4.1 to 1 and the Sahara/X have a 2.72 to 1. Taller gears are easier to shift into than lower gears.

      JeepJeep234
      Actually Toyota uses top shift mechanisms, they’re way smoother than any Jeep. I’m not hating I have a tj rubicon but the ease of shifting between Toyota’s j-shift and any wrangler is night and day difference. In my Tacoma I can shift in/out of low/hi/2/4 smooth as butter moving or not. I attribute it to top shift vs cable shift

    There’s an Engineer at Jeep that needs to get his Butt Kicked over the grief he has caused Jeep JK Owners... I hope the JL guys don’t have this same arrangement... It’s a 50k truck and this shifter should move smooth as butter into all ranges like my TJ shifter does...

    Really nice tips for this precious transfer case, thanks! When reading the manual, they say not to pause at neutral when going from 4H to 4L, and from 4L to 4H (page 457 last paragraph). However, I happen to often stop at neutral when going back to 4H, even if I am trying not to. Is that really a problem?

  • @osallivan231
    @osallivan231 Před 4 lety +1

    so while the t-case is in N, you can't shift to P while engine is ON... it makes some grinding noise, as you showed. So you switch the engine OFF, then you shift into P.... then you turn the key to shift back into N without starting the engine... Question IS - what happens if you start the engine while being in P with t-case on N??? I bet it's nasty...

    Is that grinding ok though?!?! i don't want to break anything, i find it difficult that jeep would be ok with that grinding every time you shift to 4-LO, I have found it best if your moving 2-3 MPH when shifting to 4-LO.

    • @MultiEmoto

    • @JeepJeep234
      @JeepJeep234 Před 6 lety

      Mike White You probably won't have that problem. And if you do, just take it out of gear, and let off the brake a let it roll a tiny bit. It will unbind itself.

    • @teraflexsuspensions
      @teraflexsuspensions  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, you sure can as long as you stay conservative on your speed. Around 50 MPH is fine to go between 2H and 4H. Nope, don't need to reverse, everything should sync up in drive for 2H and 4H. But you should be in N to go into 4L .

    • @txgamer1347

      Nope, you're right, that has always been the case.

  • @pallendo
    @pallendo Před 6 lety +1

    Or, let the car roll just a tiny bit in neutral and slide it right on in. Manual transmission helps with this, as well. I'll roll the car forward at 2-3mph, push in the clutch, and pull the lever down to 4L and away we go.

  • @98silver98
    @98silver98 Před 6 lety

    manual is even easier cause you can put gear in neutral and press clutch as well. main thing to realize is things have to be turn for the shafts to mesh. things are rotating in neutral with clutch in and then when you press clutch they still have a little spin but not as much power which make them mess quite easy

      It is a bit easier to shift the transfer case in a manual though. All you have to do is press in the clutch to go to Neutral and 4L

    • @kallenm727
      @kallenm727 Před 6 lety

      I have a manual and it sticks when the jeep is stationary. The instruction manual explains you should be able to engage 4H in park but it doesn't always work for me. Mine is still under warranty so I might let the guys mess around with it on my last dealership oil change. I have no problem getting into N or 4L once im in 4H though, I guess every jeep is different.
