Great explanation but I've always wondered is when going down a trail such as Black bear Pass for example. Doesn't being in 4Low restrict tight turns on the switchbacks? Also when to use front/rear or both lockers on a trail? And also how about downhill assist.
i'm that guy on the trail that constantly shifts between gears due to terrain change, a lot of the times i do find myself switching in and out of 4-low to 4-hi(sometimes 2-hi) after obstacles just to throw it back into 4-low because 30 secs(sometimes sooner) later there's already a gnarly section of technical climbing. So would it be terrible just to keep it in 4-low for extended periods of time? im easy on the skinny pedal so idk if that contributes to a yes or no answer lol
4hi 1st gear is way different than 4Lo 1st gear or Drive. With 4Hi 1st gear you're not getting the benefit of the added torque of the 4Lo gear range. The gear range of 4Lo is what allows the Jeep to move easily without stressing the motor or transmission. You can't move fast with 4Lo, but you do move easily.
This is the best explanation I’ve seen. Most other videos explain “how” and not “when”.
I'm new to Jeeping and this really explained it. Thanks Dennis!!!
Nice! Thanks for this information. Very useful.
Love the video! Great information
Great tip
Don't forget low range is super effective for going down steep hills too my friend.
CLUTCH !
How does this relate to Man Jeep Transmissions aka Manual Shifters... 🤔 Is down shifting the same???
So going up a steep hill for about a mile would i put it in 4lo and 1rst? thanks

4 Lo does not restrict your ability to turn but that front locker certainly does!
