  • In this episode I am riding from the coast of Cameroon, to the capital: Yaounde. I have to go there because I want to apply for a visa for the Central African Republic, my next destination! The main ingredient you need for this is patience.. (as well as for finding fuel, ATM's and food!)

Another reason why she became famous is because she is a woman. You don't normally see a woman traveling alone on a motorbike. Much more doing it alone traveling all over Africa. Of course it also helps that she is pretty. A guy traveling alone on a motorcycle is so ordinary. People are not interested in watching them.

When I was young in Cameroon, I was a friend of the rain. I walked with ease under its showers, the large drops of water falling upon me felt like caresses. I also harbor a deep nostalgia for those roads which to you may seem disastrous and dilapidated, but for us, they were among the few means of communication we had to reach the big cities, or even just the church or school. Those not living in these places might imagine inhabitants as sad, frustrated, hungry, and impoverished. However, this is often not the case. Living in a place far removed from the hustle of large cities holds its significance, as it fosters a strong bond with nature and with people. Enjoy the rest of your journey in Cameroon.

The local economy and ease of transporting goods plus, general ease of commuting to work would be hugely improved by properly paved roads. A little less nature and more modernity/progress would be a huge boon for all in multiple ways. Areas with too much nature are always poorer places or at the mercy of the tourism dollar prostituting the local population to the 'needs' of tourists. For example, in the U.S. there are areas that are Quite beautiful that have next to nothing for work or proper shopping areas close by for the daily needs of life.

As a European I totally agree with you. I lived in Africa for 2 years and traveled afterwards to several countries in Africa. If I hear people from Europe talk about Africa as a poor continent I have to explain that they just don't understand it. African people do things their own way and western people need to learn and appreciate this. I love to see all these people are happy and willing to help each other and have their family and friends. The ladies were so pretty in their bright, white dresses on such a muddy road! I'm watching you go through the gorgeous Cameroon jungle while snow pelts down outside my window. :D
Bats out in the daytime - wow! Unusual, indeed, but they sometimes do. I wonder if the approaching storm was pushing insects ahead of it, and the bats were taking advantage. (Unless they are fruit bats, then probably not)
