To think though: liberals voted against him in 2012 and we had to wait 4 more years to get an American back in the White House.
My mother's first year of high school was when segregation ended. I'm glad to see we could go from endless fighting to a sense of mutual understanding.
I hope the voters in those states where their senators walked out after such an historic and meaningful event, keep that in mind while they vote. The last GOP member I had profound respect for, John McCain, on the occasion of Barack Obama becoming the first black man to be nominated to run for the office of President, taped a congratulatory speech that was played at the Democratic National Convention. He acknowledged the historic breakthrough that nomination represented.
Romney, Cheney, Kinzinger, their stances and courage in the face of opposition from their own party, are worthy of respect as well. Just not as much as McCain. He was one of the very last Republican elected officials that was an American first, a Republican second.
I saw a video yesterday that included an interaction between McCain and an audience member where she felt compelled to share out loud that she was concerned about/untrusting of Obama because "...he's an Arab." McCain replied, saying something to the effect of
"No ma'am. He is not. He's a great family man, and I respect him even if we have different political or policy ideas." (Something like that)
And I couldn't help but wonder how that exchange would've gone down with any member of today's Republican party.
We've gone a long way in a relatively short period of time- and definitely not in the right direction.
It's almost like being as "loud" and disrespectful as possible is a prerequisite these days.
*Edit- I should have said "many" members of the Republican party. It wasn't accurate to say "any." There are definitely those who aren't proud of the current direction/ state of affairs and are working hard to course correct the best they can.*
I want to add that Romney voting across party lines to impeach Trump was a literal FIRST in our entire history. Epic.

But yaeh it is best to have as much diversity as possible so that you have as many people as you can looking out for as many groups and causes as possible so that you make sure everyone is as reasonably protected as possible while still protecting each groups liberties.

I love NYC. I grew up there my whole life and recently moved to another state for a job. I can see the huge difference, New Yorkers are much kinder, helpful and tolerant!
