I was at train station with all those students departing. There was a rule children and women first, no exceptions. I didn't exclude racial prejudice though, but I saw almost no girl students in a queue, they were passed after mothers with children. Naturally, mothers with children were mostly Ukrainians, so it looked like Trevor said.

Just want to point out that not all Eastern European countries have rejected refugees from the Middle East and Africa. Romania, for instance, has accepted all Syrian, Afghan and Iraqi refugees that requested asylum in recent years. Romania also accepted a significant number of African and Indian refugees coming from Ukraine during the last 8 days, some of which were turned down by Hungary and by Poland.

Hungary and Poland are the worst and were very vocal about letting in darker skinned war refugees. And there are reports of Ukrainians pushing Nigerians off buses to go wait their turn.
Both countries signed the 1951 (and follow up '67) UN convention on the rights of refugees and to at least not stop freedom of movement. War refugees are not economic migrants and should be protected equally. As one UN member said on AJE today, the UN considers all refugees to be human beings escaping persecution or war and deserve equal treatment.

I'm eastern european and i feel so sorry for all people being discriminated against and prevented from reaching our safe borders. Some of them had been fleeing from another war back in their homecountry only for war to find them again in Europe and be stuck reliving that trauma. How horrible.
Happy to see big groups of third country nationals finally making it safely into Romania and being treated with care same as the Ukrainian women and children who have lost their home. Many of the people at the Romanian border are volunteers offering their homes and businesses absolutely free. This fills me with hope.

NATURALLY the RW dog whistlers confabulated that into "eliminate the police" rather than what it's REALLY about, reroute funding to agencies that more effectively confront instances that police don't have the proper resources to deal with effectively. Often they treated female professors badly and dismissively. They also made a big noise on campus. And when they were reprimanded, they shouted about racism, although if some Ukrainian had allowed himself such behavior, he could have been expelled. My friend who sang on stage in student government is from Jordan. And all international students who were respectful of other people were welcomed by the student community. Once, foreign student accused me of racism when I reprimanded him for skipping the line in the office. He said "it's because I'm black". No, it's because you skip the line! Information by media and reaction from scholars, result in denial of the occuring injustice and lack of selfreflection, which is massive in Western European countries at this point. You just showed it in the last few days, and scholars who mention it are met with so much resistance that it begs the question to what extent racism denial isn't just part of and a measure of culturally ingrained racism. After centuries of this, despite growing education, understanding and cultural change in the modern age, it's hard to keep contributing this behaviour to nurture. More reseach would seem fitting. Humans naturally form in groups and out groups.
Often your in groups start with your family and distantly related community.
Racism is a natural end point of this process if you apply these rules very strictly.
I have not had a shared common ancestor with most subsaharan populations for maybe as long as 120,000 years. That's almost enough time to potentially be considered different subspecies. (Probably still need like another 100,000 years tbh, at least) Even me and a Chinese person are probably only genetically split by like 60,000 years.
It is natural to not be motivated to treat an unrelated population with extra kindness for no reason. How would that help ones survival? The fact that we aren't wildly more racist is the nurture part. It takes a lot of effort to rewire the human brain to love everyone. But obviously its worth the effort, hence why we work so hard at it.

Italy is Europe, but the Italians are not white!
    This just pure racism!!!

I don't think that European discrimination can necessarily be accurately described as "racism", since while I don't know about all European countries I am pretty sure that you will in many have an easier time as a black person from America than you would as a white person from Africa or Asia. I think a better description for a big part of the problem would be "cultural intolerance". (Off course that doesn't make anything better or more justified)

Can't resist ribbing Trevor.. He must not have been a band student... Band is where you learn "If you mess up, don't stop, just keep going! Odds are no one will even notice." Ha!

As I polish person I need to say that we are always very glad to help every refugee nomether where they come from.
But in 2015, many Poles believed that the people who came to Europe were (illegal) economic migrants (not from Siria). They were also concerned that the terrorist attacks we saw in Western Europe could hit Poland if we let immigrants in.
Most of Poles have nothing against ordinary muslims. We respect them, their traditions and religion.
Of course, what I wrote is a terrible simplification of the present and the previous migration crisis. But to explain the mood of Poles towards Muslims, the political game that is going on around these problems, our attachment and cultural closeness to the Ukrainians, I would have to write a few more pages.
Just please understand that the problems in Central Europe are much more complicated than they seem, and blaming everything on one factor (racism - which plays a role but not decisive) does not make much sense here.
*I am wrighting this command becouse I am afraid that someone seeing the statement of Bulgarian Prime minister may have an impression that people from central europe are hostile to the muslim imigrands and frendly to ukrainian simply becouse they are rascist. I however belive that thist is not the case in my country.
*It is also worth mentioning that recently refugees from Ukraine can flee to Poland without any identity documents and without registering at any reception points.

You may not want to believe it... But really it's quite simple.. Poland is indeed pretty racist, let's not kid ourselves.
You've read what other Poles had to say, didn't you?
Poland wouldn't negotiate even about accepting refugee Women or Children who were from Syria.

@@marinodezelak1180 There is more involved, as the person said. Too many generalizations.. perhaps less judging and more supporting is needed.
