@@esa7031 I’m talking about the match in this video, Rome qf 2021 djokovic def. Tsitsipas 4-6 7-5 7-5, djokovic was down a set and break, and down a break twice in the final set and was 2 points from losing. He also had to play 5 hours on this day cause of rain delays

I don't know how Djokovic has managed to be so successful on clay. You can see that he isn't as comfortable on this surface like Nadal or Tsitsipas but his sheer will power gets him through these matches

@@ApostolowitzMK True. I dont like Nadal as a person, but he is a beast on clay. His problem is, there is another much bigger tennis predator arround. So, like when you compare a Lion to a Hyena, or a Wolf with a Coyote.
Djokovic is underestimated on clay. As we all know he's been the best returner on tour and clay only makes it easier to return. Tsitsipas is struggling to beat him because he can't get through his amazing defense skills(by overpowering like some other players can). Tsitsipas playstyle is often wait for the opponent to make mistake but Novak never does and keeps returning the ball. That's why you saw many attempted winners by Tsitsipas in that match. Basically Djokovic can do what Tsitsipas does but better. He always waits it out at the beggining to make him tired and his backhand weaker and then attacks at the end when Tsitsipas can't hit winners. Stef's only hope is the good 1rst serve and maybe some good dropshots or overhead bait that sometimes Novak screws up. I expect Djokovic 2-1 today but I hope he runs out of stamina first if Tsitsipas can hang in there with some good serves.
@@stevenz2998 Your analysis is good. I agree with most of it. I would like to add that Djokovic presents a matchup problem for Tsitsipas because of the Tsitsipas inability to produce flatter, deeper shots and he lands a lot of his backhands way to short. He also has a weak return from that side, alowing Djokovic to set up for some flatter shots of his own, to change direction. There are many areas where Djokovic can hurt Tsitsipas, he is not the best player ever for nothing, but one area where Tsitsipas can have advantage is to try to serve big and try to slice more, attempt to tire up Djokovic. Its tough how would i advise Tsitsipas as a coatch when he plays Djokovic. He needs to hit his shots flatter and with more depth, and hope Djokovic wont start the match in full speed. Djokovic is slugish these days at the start of matches, so perhaps Tsitsipas can use that and makes it physical. As a Djokovic supporter a would like Djokovic to win this match because that would be a perfect confidence boost for the FO, but i dont have anything against Tsitsy. Tsitsipas is a very depressive guy, he needs to lighten up a bit. He puts to much preasure and expectations on himself. Good player on clay though. Should be a competitive match. 50/50. We will see.
Back then Tsitsipa's backhand seemed better, especially when hitting down the line. I dont know what changed.
A surgery and the change of the strings of his racquet..he needs time to adjust,but he is doing OK right now.

Not only backhand, but forehand and everything else. It's an unbelievable difference.
That DTL backhand is the shot that enabled Stefanos to beat Djokovic twice on hardcourt and push him on clay. Without it he's just another guy Novak can bully around the court.
@@DaggerMan11 Well, his cross-court backhand in that match was very powerful, too. He doesn't have it either this year. Basically, he doesn't seem to have a backhand this year at all. Not even a backhand slice.
I want Stefanos to lose as much as Novak does. He fought so hard and saved plenty of nearly unplayable points!
Tsitsipas in this match was godlike, his backhand was brutal, and nearly no chance to effectively pressure it. His serve and forehand are so solid as f**k

That's a big statement. It's the same for both players. You could argue Tsisipas toilet breaks change the momentum of his opponents when he's losing.

Tsitsipas really needs to add more variety to his game. All these highlights and almost never ever a dropshot or volley from him. It's all relentless baseline spreading. Effective, but also a bit boring (although single handed backhands are never boring of course). In the end, I think that made him lose this match. Djoko could anticipate very easily what Tsitsipas' next hit would be.
Yeah its never boring to watch his backhand because it always ends up some hilarious comic mis-hit...

If Tsitsipas is going to borrow from the house that Wawrinka built, I'm going to need him to learn how to CONTROL that one handed backhand. There were multiple times when he should have moved Djokovic around to set up winners; instead, he just hit the ball right back to Djokovic.

It has become very clear now that none of these 2nd generation players viz: theim, zverev, tsitsipas, medvedev, shapolov etc will win any grand slam as long as nadal & djokovic keep playing tennis for next 4-5 years. Only if 3rd generation players like carlos Alcaraz or sinner play well, they can stop novak or nadal from winning grand slams . All of us hope that talent, mentality, determination etc only Alcaraz seems to have & he is the only chance to stop these 2 from winning more grand slams

These guys still go out and play Novak the same way, he waits on them to make a mistake and kills them, you have to be a good server and a baseline hitter to beat Novak, can't miss, because he doesn't make to many mistakes.

He also holds all other records over Nadal, except clay where he regularly whips the fraud, even at his own best slam. He has to run and hide even on clay nowadays. And Djokovic is primed to even surpass Fedal by a large margin until this year ends. And he could decide to play for 3 more years with great chances to win on any surface, because he is the all surface kind and way better and more complete player than Claydull. And dont hope Alcaraz and the company to save your weak lord, it aint happening. I noticed that Alcaraz is actually a good matchup for Djokovic, when he almost beat the kid at his 50% capacity.
