Truly...who would one rather watch in their prime for the variety of shotmaking, including the actual strokes, the fluidity of movement and the strength and endurance without appearing to strain in the least.
The most GS titles = G.O.A.T. argument would be more persuasive if Federer had all his qualities but won, say, only 10 GS titles (quite an achievement regardless).

First:
1) Who said anything about LeBron not being a GOAT? (I say, a "Mt. Rushmore GOAT" not THE G.O.A.T, as the 'expert' players/coaches/sports analysts consensus is that player is Jordan). However, if you're going to conflate most points scored in the NBA with being a GOAT or the GOAT, that man, since his retirement decades ago, was Jabbar until just last year. Very few former or current basketball players would call Jabbar the GOAT after Jordan retired (heck, even before), but you could make an argument and he should be in the discussion for many reasons.
Lebron's great achievement, I believe, is performing at such a high level for so many years (he's freakin' 39 and still among or close to the top ten performers, no drop off like Jordan and many other HoFamer's). Then again, he went straight from HS to the NBA. That 3 or 4 extra years of scoring (his game is much more than that, of course) helped him break the all-time scoring record and it still took several more years playing than Jabbar for him to do itl
2) Your comment is confusing. It seems as if you might be agreeing with us in that we say that just because one has the most GS titles (by the way, shouldn't we count doubles titles as well? After all, it's part of the game and shows versatility and comprehensive knowledge and skill) doesn't necessarily make one THE GOAT. That's why Federer is the GOAT...still impressive, but not the best GS titles resume and the most beautiful game in every aspect, including quiet mental strength and demeanor, with few anomalous exceptions, throughout his career.

@@Cofimaslisa Yes, many thinking james is not the goat includes myself, but he is the goat of all-time scoring now (with an 0.1 higher career ppg ave. than Jabbar as well, a more meaningful stat imo - Jordan is the goat for career ppg @ 30.1).
As for doubles, there seems to be a misunderstanding and it's probably my fault. Yes, the best doubles team GS wise all-time are the Bryan's but I when I suggested that we should count GS doubles titles in determining the men's tennis GOAT, I was talking about those superior singles players with several or more GS single titles AND many GS doubles titles as well (neither Bryan brother has ever won a GS single nor any non-GS but still major title, e.g. BNP Paribas @ Indian Wells) and the best example of this type of player would be McEnroe with what, 7 GS singles titles, at least 8 (9?) GS doubles with P. Fleming et. al. and one GS mixed doubles title ...not to mention Davis Cup championships. Probably the most broad accomplishment of any male tennis player but let's face it, aesthetically....ugh!

Nobody beats djokovic like that. Somedays, Federer was simply unplayable. Nobody could touch him when he was in that zone.

This kind of play was regular in his prime years before the back injuries. Novak just didn't play him enough then as he wasn't present in the big matches.

This is why Federer is by definition the GOAT. When he is at his best he is the best in history. Prime Federer beats anyone past or present. There was nothing technically wrong with his technique or footwork and he had every shot in the book. You can't say the same about anyone else. Federer is the gold standard of tennis technique and strategy.

2014 was far from Federer's prime but this was one of this best matches ever. Peak Federer is unmatched.

Fed"s peak year was 2006 when he won 3 slams and 4 masters. And this was facing such giants of the game such as the unseeded Baghdatis in a slam final. Nadal didn't yet really know how to hit a ball when not on clay in slams. In 2015 djokovic won 3 slams and 6 masters. He recorded the highest level of ATP points ever recorded. And this was facing Federer, Nadal, peak Wawrinka, peak Murray. Peak unmatched indeed...

That was some brutal tennis. RF had his day here, with all his strokes in the sweet spot. As nole fan is important to follow channels like these, so i don't be unfair to how good Federer, Nadal and Murray truly were at their best days.

Yes. You can see by the highlights that even Federer playing like this Djokovic managed to get almost all games close, if he or someone else were playing in a lower level against this Federer would be 6/1, 6/2 easily.
Federer's best level is probably the highest ever. The thing is to maintain it over 5 sets. After 2010 it was obvious he had more trouble doing that, especially on slower surfaces.
Hmmm. Maybe, but you always have lulls in a 5-setter. I think Federer's problem v Djo post-2012 was not being able to *raise* his level enough times when he really needed to. What you think?
@@mantaishereI think that's something to do with his risky playstyle and also his age was a factor...Going for outright winners over 5 sets is really asking for trouble but that's how Roger plays...His uso 2015 finals playstyle was extremely over aggressive

In the '15 Open final, he was 4/23 on breakpoints! Just a few more conversions, and it's a 5-set epic, or Roger comes through victoriously! Novak, on the other hand, seemed to come through more often than not!
His game is uniquely based on feel, and feel drops off with fatigue.

Federer showed us how beautiful tennis is, even if Djokovic won 100 titles, Federer played at a different level. no one can reach that level.
nah, times changed, now tennis is extremely aggressive and played for long hours. djokovic changed that and now its suffering to win anything. of course it was poetry when it was easier. but wheres rafa or nadal today?, now there are 10-15 players that try to beat djokovic. one attacks plays like madman, then goes to rest for 6 months. and they rotate. while djokovic has to beat every week, defend his title every tournament. novak is still playing and still number 1 and still breaking records.

This is one of the best non-GS matches ever played. Indoors RF at his best was the best player the world has ever seen - and the most enjoyable to watch.
Seeing this also lets me think that the era until 2019 or something was just way better than the last couple years.
That's really incredible. It's very difficult to understand why level dropped so much, so violently, but that's it. Djokovic today is not even remotely close to what he was 10 years ago, yet he dominates more than 10 years ago. That's just absurd and embarrassing.

Think of this. This was Fed 3 years pass his prime and it will be another 3 years before his won his next slam. That show you how consistent of a player he was during all of his 22 years playing career.
This is such a joy to watch, the clean technique of Federer’s attacking game and all around variety!
The Fed had a couple of attributes that most modern day baseline power players don't have. He can take time away by taking the ball early and he wasn't afraid to approach the net, and pick off volleys off his shoe laces! In fact, he started taking the serve so early, it became the SABR! Good luck dealing with the Fed on a fast court!!!

Federer is already sorely missed - his game was so rounded and that backhand never grew old - he brought out the best of his rivals - I enjoy watching Djokovic, Nadal and others but only Stan has a backhand that compares to Fed, the 2 handed approach just looks awkward by comparison
The two handed approach is much, much more efficient, controllable and consistent. If Federer has Djokovic’s backhand, he would’ve won many more slams. Few tennis coaches now would advise a player to use a single hander

Saw this match live and I still remember the whole match was like a highlight package..
And there lot of other matches as well when Roger jus made mockery out of djoker and nadal.. they can't do anything but jus watch Roger hitting winners after winners and winning the match eventually..

Man, when people go on and on about who was the greatest, they’re missing out. The two greatest playing two different styles better than we’ve ever seen before. It’s just so beautiful. Rafa too of course.
While one chases the grand slams and records without it arousing any emotion, the other who gave us the most beautiful emotions in tennis is sorely missed, will we have the chance to see him again on the court, during matches exhibitions, without stakes of course, but nothing butseeing grace express itself again would satisfy all lovers of the beautiful game, unfortunately a knee which always seems indelicate deprives us of this pleasure.

Peak djokovic is nothing when the Fed is in the mood.
When it comes to debating who is the GOAT, the criteria must not be overlooked: whoever can play the greatest tennis. Nobody has yet reached Federer's level of tennis.
I think it should be a mix of both: who played extremely high level tennis for an extended period of time.
This should take into considerations mainly peak years of players, because dominating when level inevitably drops with age, requires some luck (i.e. not having to face champions of your same league, but younger), and they didn't have the same amount of luck from this point of view. Djokovic is having clearly too easy of a time nowadays, against an ATP tour which general top level clearly dropped heavily. His peak years are those which really count. The collection of slams he's doing nowadays against those babies, doesn't change the goat debate the slightest for me, which is different from a mere collection of numbers.
In the end, for me it's very difficult to decide a true GOAT between the 3 fabs. Every one of them could've good pros and cons... perhaps Fed and Djoko a little bit more than Nadal, but in the end, I think they would be really too close to each other, so much that it would be a matter of personal preference... so I think they should just share the crown.😅

Djokovic may have the records but Federer was the most creative attacking player i've ever seen and, for me, the King.
If the Maestro followed Novak's extreme performance training, he would have even outlasted him on court despite the age gap. But he had also a family life he wanted to balance. The most talented player to ever pick up a racquet.

Cincinnati 2015, over 7 years before he retired was his last knockout match win vs Djokovic.

When he played like this noone could keep up with him.
Fed matched up really well against Djokovic: he varied the pace on his backhand and had an aggressive forehand that he came to the net behind. He was able to cut off the defensive shots Novak hit and put them away instead of waiting at the baseline like the other players who play now and starting the point over again.
More than 2 to 1, 13 to 6 in finals to Djokovic and almost 2 to 1, 11 to 6 in slams seems to indicate that he didn't match up too well in the biggest matches that matter the most.
But half of those wins by Novak were when Fed was 36+ in age (that's when Novak won half of his majors) and Novak was in his prime. The stats were pretty much equal between them when they were both in their 20s or Fed in his very early 30s. @@huzcer

Never mind the level of competition in 2006 vs 2015. Federer faced Baghdatis in an actual slam final. Nadal couldn't get past a US Open or AO 1/4 final until 2008. Baghdatis spent literally 2 months of his entire career in the Top 10 😁 Compared to Federer, Nadal, peak Murray, peak Wawrinka in 2015.

Novak actually loves faster courts. And no surface slowed its a myth. Some of the courts have gotten faster to be frank. In some of the tourneys time and again they have used slower balls but those troubled novak as much as roger.

Btw the courts here remained fast unlike pretty much ever other hard court .other faster courts were in Dubai and Cincinnati and federer was the best ever on fast hardcourts ..,he could put hit Novak but on medium to slow courts Novak was too good defensively
Before 2010, Hard courts were way faster than the ones we see nowadays and some people truly don't have a single idea on how slowing down the courts was a K.O for aggressive players like Fed

Yeah, Cinci this year was ridiculously slow, they changed the surface (Plexipave to Greenset), just grinding and millions of unforced errors, so bad..

Even outdoors in the sunshine double Canada and Cincinnati. Courts were way faster than today's. I mean even Wimbledon 😂😂. Kyrgios said that it's as slow as clay 😂. Shame that we have to watch the same tennis every single tournament. And to make it even tougher, Roger is no longer there 😭

2016 was the last Cincinnati played on "relatively" fast courts.
Roger came out dialed in, and did the same to Nadal in Shanghai in 2017 6-4 6-3. He only had a handful of unforced errors and was doing crazy shit like taking the ball in the air at the service line and hitting winner after winner..Nadal at the presser was like "What can you do?"
No grunting. No whining. No mind gaming. Just pure tennis from both. Miss these days.
